Uber is literally committing highway robbery. My mentally handicapped, 24-year-old son has been using Uber for several years. Last Saturday he took an Uber ride to a WWE wrestling event at the Sears center. His ride on the way there was $29. On the way back his ride cost $235.00! at first I assumed this was just some kind of typographical error and I contacted Uber. Uber assured me that this was the correct fare and they were not going to reduce it. When I questioned Uber how this could be possible they said it was six times surge pricing and my son had clicked OK when this offer popped up. He was also encouraged to give a 10% tip which he clicked on when it popped it. So all in his ride home cost $258.00. He is on supplement security income and this is the amount he receives for an entire month of expenses. How can there be no cap on surge pricing? Lots of people use Uber that are disabled, handicapped, English is not their first language. I'm sure only people that didn't understand what was being offered would have clicked yes to this ridiculous offer of a $235 ride home. I can't believe that Uber won't make this right and we have now downloaded the Lyft app and will not be Uber fans anymore. So sad. Use Uber more than I care to admit but yesterday was the best. Had to pick up my drivers license that was found in a cab (so score one for them too for calling). That said the driver took me into the belly of the beast being surrounded by dozens of his competitors on the South Side and taking some heat. I've been using Uber for the past year and love the service. Sure, its frustrating when the rates are 2x the normal fee during peak times, but those are also the times I may have been waiting for over an hour for another cab service. I don't use Uber every single time i need a ride, but I've been depending on them more and more since the other services are becoming more unrealiable. The only thing Uber does is to connect you with a driver! I don't understand why people are blaming Uber for all kinds of thing that are beyond its control. Uber does not own cars or drivers! You can always rate the driver for the actual service! Please stop complaining about uberx, it is a ride share, the driver is not licensed and you better give him directions, sometimes he might refuse taking you if you go far away from where he wants to go, it seems logic, that's why it's called ride share. The best thing about it is the price, about half of a taxi ride, but you get what you pay for. If you want quality, use a black car! Do you think black car is expensive? In Germany for instance the normal taxi service has about the same quality of a black car here, but the price is higher. In Chicago taxi is $1.8/mile, uber black car is $3.5/mile, while in Hamburg, Germany, a city comparable to Chicago, taxi rate is about $4.2/mile read more

Uber's customer service is complete crap and virtually non-existent. I left my phone in a car, and realized it within 3 minutes. The phone was already turned off and off the grid. I quickly contacted Uber via the "left something behind" link in the receipt. It suggested I contact the driver directly. I called and left him a message. And another, and another. Along with 5 more emails to Uber over a 24 hour period. Radio silent. The a-hole driver is selling my phone and no can even have the decency to email me back?! We used Uber to pick us up at our Hotel out by the airport we had reservations downtown and our driver did everything possible to get us through bumper to bumper early evening traffic and we made to our dinner reservation with 3 minutes to spare. Used it again to go back to the hotel after our dinner and walk downtown we were again picked up promptly were offered our choice of music any alternate route plan we may know. The cars both time were spotless and both drivers were friendly, cordial and accommodating. read more

I've only had minor issues with Uber but tonight makes me want to cancel them altogether. I ordered a car because the bus was going to be 20min and it's snowing and cold. The driver was nice but got there approximately the same time as the bus did. I get home and look at my phone to rate the driver and it appears that Uber has on its own, scheduled another car to pick me up from a grocery store. I text the driver to explain that I did not order the car. 15 minutes later I get a call from a woman saying she's outside waiting for me. I told her there must be something wrong with the App because I did not order a car. I Later notice that Uber has charged me a cancellation fee to which I dispute through the crappy App and they give me a credit. However, they are still charging my credit card the cancellation fee! I put in a dispute with my credit card letting them know this is fraudulent. I also tried to call the Uber customer service number and all I get is a fax machine sound. I am no longer going to use them! And I was FORCED to give one star. read more

I've had 2 experiences with this company. Both sucked. Their app doesn't confirm a ride, then some poor dumb schmuck shows up to pick me up, but their app NEVER CONFIRMED THE RIDE. We have been using Uber for several years and until Saturday night, we were satisfied with their service, However, Saturday night (7/22) my husband and a friend took a 15 minute ride from 9:42 pm to 9:57 pm from Webster/Clybourn in Chicago to Ogilvy train station. They charged us $5,292.73 because Basher, the driver of a Honda Accord R461253, logged the destination as Ogilvie Drive, Castro Valley California. They corrected the charge sent us a receipt for a mere $161.38 for the 15 minute drive from Chicago to California! This is further complicated because my husband left his phone in Basher's vehicle. We tried to contact the driver, but he has not returned our call. we emailed Uber to contest the $161.38 charge, and they claimed we had to pay a clean-up fee. Upon further pressing with some nameless autobot email response system, they sent us photos of some weird florescent green marks. After emailed them all day on Sunday, we finally received an email saying that Basher had been unable to locate the phone and they hoped we were able to find it somewhere else. If the driver really had cleaned his car, he would have found the phone! What a scam! We contacted our bank to stop payment and discovered that they charged two amounts; $150 and $250 at about 3:30am the next morning. We are still trying to get this resolved, but riders BEWARE of BASHER, driving a Honda Accord R461253! read more

Uber is good, if you can access the App. My phone number changed and I attempted to update it in the Uber App. It says it will send me a text to verify, but the text never comes through. I did this over and over and over again. There is no option beyond this. No option at all, so you are just screwed and unable to use Uber at all. I contacted them through Facebook messenger and was given this "list" of instructions to follow so they could reset it. One being "what were your last two trips". I don't remember what they were because it's been so long since i've use them. I explained this and the response was "we have sent you an email with further instructions". It was the exact same instructions. There is no phone number you can call, nothing. I finally just gave up and signed up for Lyft. It shouldn't be this hard to get a phone number updated in your account so that you can use their service. Worst customer service ever. This is the only company i've ever known that doesn't provide any phone number at all, even in an emergency. read more

On Tuesday at 5:20am, I called for an Uber to get to the airport. Driver was close by and arrived in about 8-10 minutes. I was waiting on the front porch. No traffic; no weather problems. Arrived by 5:58am. Total miles: 11. When I checked my emails later, I see that I was charged $61.24. There was even a "waiting" charge even though I was the one waiting on the porch for the driver. I contacted Uber to question this high charge and was told they confirmed this fare because my trip was taken at a time when there was a high demand for rides near my pickup location (5:30AM on a Tuesday??!!). Further, they said, when there is high demand, they update the price to encourage drivers to come to that area. What the heck does that mean???!!! I am very frustrated and angry. Had been using them on a regular basis and the fares to go to the airport were never more than $26, no matter what day or time. I'm done with them and will not recommend them to anyone! read more

I was really excited to try Uber out for the first time to take me home from a New Years party. I came from downtown and reserved with UberX to take me from the train station back to my home. I was so pleased to get a phone call from the driver immediately when stepping off the platform. I told him where I was going to be and he said he was on the way and would be there in a few minutes. After 15 minutes had passed, I tried to call the number again but it kept going to a voicemail. After 30 minutes, I was going to use the app for another reservation when the rate soared up. Finally, I was able to get a cab to take me home which is what I would have done in the first place had I known that would happen. Uber then texted me an hour and half after my initial reservation saying that my driver was en route. I texted back and said I had been waiting and to cancel. Then I received another text that the driver had to cancel. I wish he had just called back to cancel instead of me being a fool trying to be courteous and wait for him. The app also gives you a description of the make of the car, license plate and a pic of the driver which I am sure he passed me at least twice. It was frustrating and I am so disappointed in my experience. I am unlikely to try out the service again. read more

Price gouging, and non-existent customer service! I took an uber taxi from O'Hare because I had had previous positive experiences with uber and wanted to try it from the airport. The car came fairly quickly, (but we had to schlep our bags up the escalator since they aren't allowed to pick up at the arrivals downstairs.) The deal with uber taxis is that they are required to charge the same rate as Chicago taxis - it says so on their website. My driver, however, charged DOUBLE the meter rate, and then added a 20% tip for himself - an overcharge of $50. According to calculations set forth on the Chicago taxi website (milege + taxes + 1.5 times meter), my charge should have been $27 - he charged $76! When I brought this to the attention of the robots in "customer service" (no phone #, just email), they said they were "sorry for my inconvenience", but they did nothing about offering a refund of the MISCHARGES. Between my husband and I, we take taxis to/from the airport 6-8 times/month. The charge is a flat rate of $25-$35, depending on the taxi company. There is absolutely no reason to take an uber taxi from the airport - not only are they more expensive, they have the right to gouge, with no recourse. I understand mistakes are made, but when customer service can't do the math, they've lost me as a client. I'm taking it up with my credit card for a full refund. read more

Encountered two drivers with questionable driving skills and reported. The first driver didn't speak a word of English and didn't recognize street signs. My report stated that and the fact I asked him to stop and let me out. I chose to walk to my destination rather than continue the ride. It wasn't safe. Uber's response: (this is a direct copy&paste from the support email and yes, you are reading it right) "If you would prefer not to use walking on your next trip, feel free to tap No Thanks when prompted to update your destination." Uber's concern for safety is mind blowing and they sure outdid themselves on customer service bots. The second report was for a driver with "a lot on his mind" (his words) and "too much going on to find location" (again, driver's words). Twice he went to the wrong location, sat there till I contacted him telling him he is at the wrong place. Took over 15 min to finally get my ride. Driver apologized for ruining my day and proceeded telling me how distracted he is because of "things going on at home". If you are so distracted, you shouldn't be driving at all! Not to mention picking up riders and risking their lives too! Uber's response: "I'm sorry to hear that you're unhappy with this ride", followed by the generic Drivers who partner with Uber nonsense. So far I have not received a single response from Uber that actually makes sense or shows that a human has read it. Thousands of reports suffer the same fate. Drivers are not screened properly or monitored and held accountable. Uber refuses to acknowledge they keep dangerous drivers with total disregard for the riders' safety. Does Uber suck as much for anyone else as it does for me? I joined 12/11, had one successful ride home from a party, and the other four rides I requested never showed up. After Fail #3, I emailed the company to ask wtf. Someone named Nick (I think)answered and informed me that Uber doesn't focus on taxi service, that all its 'resources' are focused on UberX (he didn't explain what that was). So next time, I figured I'd wise up and request UberX. No dice. I waited 30 minutes before cancelling and trying to get a taxi. I'm still waiting 20 minutes later for the taxi. I'll have to cancel Fail #5 and go hail a cab on the street I guess. I live on the far north side but I am well within the city limits. I honestly don't get it. I really wanted to love these guys, but they just can't seem to get it together. Too bad. I definitely won't be recommending them for anything. I'm sad to say that one bad experience has totally turned me off to this after so many good experiences but frankly I am pretty mad about what had happened to me tonight. I was a big fan of UberX finding it fairly reliable and affordable but I miss my old taxi drivers who knew where they were going and know that they are in a service related field. My UberX driver picked me up in Lincoln Park and we were going to a place in Ukrainian Village (so both fairly popular places). I gave the driver both an address and cross streets but I knew he did not know where he was going as he immediately asks me to spell the street name and enters in the address into a GPS. I also know the GPS isn't going to give the best route so I start telling how to get there. Well my driver gets mad about this and calls me bossy and after a while tells me he was not going to listen to me and was only going to listen to his GPS. And of course his GPS takes him down Division in Wicker Park on a Saturday night which you may know is pretty slow and has alot of traffic on weekend nights (and my way would have avoided this traffic). I am so angry at this point that I had him immediately stop the car and I walked the rest of the way. My driver also complained to me that he has a $60,000 car (which he does, a very nice Audi A8) and that he only does the job for conversation. But what he fails to understand is that no matter how nice your car is nor the reasons why you do the job, you are still in a service related industry and for better or for worse, the customer is right. If you take a taxi, you have the right to direct the driver to the route and destination and I feel like Uber should have provided for that same right. Also Uber drivers should have knowledge of some of the more popular areas in Chicago. It is rare that I would get into a taxi, give the same address that I gave tonight (as this is a good friend's place so I have been there many times), and the driver would not have a general idea of where this was. And I have never had a driver insult me. While it was a relatively minor insult by telling me I was bossy, it was an insult nonetheless. I usually think of myself as a fair customer who tips really well (tipping on average 20+% for services received) but I wish everything wasn't so automatic with Uber that I could have had at least the option to not give a tip. Needless to say that for transportation to go back to Lincoln Park, I did not use Uber and instead flagged a cab and it will be a long time before I even think of using Uber again. read more

I feel so unsafe on Uber in Chicago. I have only taken it once or twice, and never again. I had a fine experience in New York but here no way. Besides uneaten advances from male drivers to me and my friends, almost every car I see that's driving like a crazy person has that Capital U on the front of the car. The other day a car drove almost a mile on the shoulder in crowded Chicago traffic on Route 90 and then all of a sudden cut in front of our car. Almost caused an accident for us, the car in front of us, and the two cars in the lane to the left of us both freaked too. When my boyfriend honked the other driver got really aggressive, going on the side to yell and then tailgating us! I saw it was an Uber and tried to report him (License plate IL S68 6969 by the way) but DID YOU KNOW THERE IS NO WAY TO REPORT AN UBER DRIVER!!! I called their safety hotline and it said to call 911 if you're in danger or otherwise use the app to report a driver. Which 1) you can only do if you're that driver's passenger and 2) DOESN'T CONNECT YOU TO A LIVE PERSON!!! It's the same as sending an email to a support email address, which I'm sure they'll respond to right away (NOT). Meanwhile that driver goes about their business picking up other passengers. I will most certainly never be using Uber here in Chicago, and I recommend you don't either! read more

Got Uber to go from the south-west side of Chicago to Midway airport. It took the driver 15 min to arrive, instead of 4, as it was initially stated. Then, the driver took a very strange route to the airport near some warehouses, where he asked me if I had cash. The reason I called user was because I did not have cash and wanted to pay through my app. He told me his app got broken, something to the extent that uber gives them shitty equipment and he can not get paid for the ride through Uber. He was able to see my request using his app though! So, he demanded cash from me. Also, his English was so bad that he did not understand what I was saying. He just was asking me for cash all the time. I ended up taking off and staying in that remote warehouse area alone without any cash. That was so frustrating. Good thing my friend worked nearby and was able to help me out. I complained to Uber and they returned my money. Nothing was done by them to compensate my emotional distress. read more

Let me start by saying if you find yourself in San Francisco, Uber is the only way to go. It's fast, easy, and the fares are very reasonable (like 20% or so more than a normal taxi). Unfortunately, that was not the case when I took it in Chicago last weekend. I ordered a taxi from a restaurant at Randolph and Halsted to Western and Addison. The driver picked me up and indicated she would take Randolph to Western because we were past the highway. When I asked that she go back to the highway she indicated she had no idea how to get on from where we were. I won't bore you with the details, but she got lost repeatedly, missed the Western exit, and a trip that according to google maps should be about 5.7 miles took 9.44 miles (according to my Uber receipt) and cost $42. The driver was very nice and kept indicating that it was her first night and she was really sorry. Granted, taking Uber is (and should be!) more than a normal cab ride, my fare to get to the restaurant using a regular cab cost $18. I completely understand that it was her first night, but I feel the fare should have been adjusted accordingly. When I emailed Uber's customer service, Nicole got right back to me, apologized, and credited my account for the difference in what was charged and what they calculated it should have cost. Which was $32. Almost double what a normal taxi cost. So now I have a $10 credit for a service I will never again use in Chicago. read more

I originally called my Uber, with my location setting on my phone. The app selected a location that was far from my actual location. I could not change the location at the time and the app automatically requested a driver for me, without allowing me to actually request the Uber. I then received a call from the driver and explained the situation. I then tried the app one more time, thinking I could possibly change the pick-up address. As soon as I selected the app, an Uber was requested. I was not able to pick a pick-up address, a destination or actually request the Uber, I received another phone call from the driver and explained the situation and received another $5 cancellation fee for something that was out of my control. I was hoping to call Uber to explain the situation, but there is no phone number to call about issues with the company. I will be using Lyft or cabs from this point on, and I will be informing all of my friends and family (all frequest Uber users) of the situation so they will not utilize Uber anymore. read more

Had a very disturbing conversation when contacted by Uber representatives this morning. Up until this morning I have been very pleased with Uber and the service it offers, it has been a life-saver and I really could not say enough about how much I liked the company. This makes having a confusing and disturbing conversation with representatives of the company such a surprise and disappointment. I felt that I was not treated with respect and that the representatives did not act with transparency. I was honestly shocked with the way the conversation was conducted and with the lack of adherence to any formal process as well as the lack of definition of any process from the representatives who contacted me. RIDERS PLEASE THINK CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU TAKE ANOTHER RIDE WITH UBER. I am reticent to patronize any business that operates in this manner. In addition, I was informed I would receive a couple of follow up e-mails right away from them but I still have not received anything. read more

Oh Uber what happen to you? Uber was great the first 3 times I used it, inexpensive, clean cars, and friendly drivers, though a little directionally challenged. The last 3 times I have used Uber have been major fails. Twice I was picked up by a taxi and paid the taxi rate. This last time, I kept receiving a notice that the driver was looking for a 2nd person to share the ride with me. When I made the reservation the driver was 3 min. away, after 7 min. the driver was 4 min. away and still looking. I cancelled the service and jogged to my destination. Uber then charged me a $2 cancellation fee because the driver was in route. If after 7 min. the driver is further away than when you made the reservation, then the driver is not in route, they are just driving around. Uber did refund the fee but I have to say what was once a great idea, and was well executed is now a hassle and a source of confusion and frustration. Uber is no longer the for me. read more

First, this is my first experience with Uber and I am absolutely appalled. I live in a big city, but have had friends with bad experiences and now I know why. This was actually not my driver. I got into the wrong Uber, who was also driving a Civic and picking someone up at the JW Marriot at LA Live. As soon as I got into the car, I verified he was going to the airport, he said, yes, but I needed to change my location since, according to him, I had not originally put in that location. I told him I had and asked if I had the wrong car. He said I was fine and proceeded to drive in the wrong direction. I looked up directions to the airport on my phone and saw the distance kept getting longer. I asked again if I should get out and he said no. We then picked someone up. I was confused why we were picking people up because I thought it was just like a taxi. I asked again if I should get out and pressed for an answer because at this point, I was afraid I would miss my plane. He again said I was fine. I asked if we were going to the airport, and he eluded the question. After being in the car for 40 minutes, he then dropped me back off at the JW Marriot. I was shocked. Why would he not have let me get out of told me that was where we were going? He told me to get another Uber. I had to take a taxi because I did not have time to wait for another Uber and it was now on 'surge' pricing. The taxi cost me $50 to the airport and I also got charged for taking the wrong Uber. Why did he not tell me I was in the wrong car in the first place? Why would be not let me get out and find a different ride when I was so pressed for time? Why did he not tell me he was taking me back to the hotel? This was the most bizarre experience I have EVER had with public transportation and I travel often for business. This experience was awful and I cannot believe a major business is conducted in such careless and unprofessional manner. read more

I had a pretty bad experience with Uber this past weekend. I was downtown with my parents who are from a quiet town and don't get out to the city very often. My goal had been to encourage them to expand thier horizons and explore more. We decided where we would like to go to eat and I decided to show them how simple it was to maneuver the city by calling an Uber. Imagine my surprise when the driver who was apparently 4 minutes away didn't even show up as approaching our location on the map for 15 mins while my parents became visibly defeated holding thier bags on the side of the street. Mind you this was not a busy street. We were able to scan oncoming traffic on both sides of the road and knew what car and Driver to expect. The driver never arrived. There was no notification from Uber even, that he had arrived. Then 10 mins later I get a notification saying that the driver had cancelled my trip. I found this odd, but had never really had this sort of issue with Uber before so I assured my parents I'd call another. I called the second Uber who was supposed to have been driving a silver Malibu that looked to be pretty new in the picture. He was supposed to arrive in 6 minutes. Once Uber notified me that he had arrived we saw no such vehicle. We did, however, spot a very old Malibu with faded and chipped grey paint that seemed to be lost. Once the car parked on the side of the road my father crossed the street to see if he recognized the driver as our Uber drivrr, but as my father approached the vehicle it pulled away from the curb and drove off. Needless to say at this point I was very frustrated and embarrassed as my father helped me to hail a cab as we'd waisted almost half an hour trying to get at Uber at this point. While in the cab I checked my Uber app to see if I could get to the bottom of what happened. When I looked online saw that I had been charged twice by Uber. They had taken money from my credit card for both failed attempts with no notification. Once we got to our destination I noticed I'd been charged more by Uber to not be picked up by them at all than I was charged by the taxi to actually be transported to my desired location. What's worse is my father earnestly asked me if we had been discriminated against by Uber. While I did my best to explain to him that Uber doesn't really work that way it goes without saying that this situation painted me as incompetent and that him or my mother will never try using Uber again. And once I found out that there is no phone number to actually call Uber to sort these things out and that I had to email them or reach them via social media I don't think I'll be using it again myself. This is certainly not the sort of establishment with which I'd like to be leaving my credit card information on file. When I tried to report this via the Uber app they "solved" the problem by crediting the money to my Uber account. I do not want another credit for them to take when the next driver does not show up, not do I want a free uber ride. I want a refund. I thought Uber might be called to action by a poor Yelp review, but by the looks of it a one star review for this cooperation will only blend in with the majority. What a disappointment. read more

I'm a big fan of Uber except for the times it doesn't work, which is when you actually need a cab and want one to come pick you up in time to get to an appointment, the airport or anything else that's important to you. The service should be reliable and it unfortunately isn't. Drivers are allowed, and frequently do, cancel on you after they've confirmed pick up because they've found a more convenient fare. This is great for them but really bones whomever is at home with their bags trying to catch a flight. I don't imagine it's how the service is supposed to work. To the extent they can fix this problem or otherwise penalize drivers who habitually cancel on fares (everyone's got to cancel sometimes), this service is just barely above worthless. They just can't be counted on and, if they can't be counted on, why waste the thirty minutes sitting in your apartment waiting for them only to have them cancel? Just head out to the street and find your own cab. read more

I've used Uber many times (mostly getting around the city of Chicago) and have always had a great experience. That is until yesterday. We were at my sons apartment on south Clark street and needed to get to the train station. I was with my daughter and my wife and it was Mothers Day. So my daughter used the Uber app on her phone to get a car. The app said the car would be there in 4 minutes. So we waited out front and watched on the little Uber map while the driver drove around in circles for about 15 minutes. My son lives in a high rise building and it is probably one of the easiest addresses in Chicago to find. So after 15 frustrating minutes of watching the car on the map go in circles my daughter cancelled, hoping to be able to get another car as it was getting to the point we would miss our train. So 30 seconds after she cancelled, the first driver pulls up. We went to get into the car and he (Mohammed) says, " No. You cancel. Now I have another fare to pick up." My wife says, "We've been waiting here watching you drive in circles for 15 minutes and we need to catch a train. We didn't think you were going to show up." So he rolls up the window and speeds off, turns the corner and rolls the window down again, whistles loudly and at the top of his voice screams "F YOU!" (only he didn't just use the letter F he used the full word.) Then he charges my daughter for a cancelled ride. My daughter immediately filed a complaint with them and they refunded the cancellation charge right away and the second driver who came by was GREAT and a normal person like I usually get. I guess every company is going to have some bad employees but if you ever need an Uber car and get a Dodge Stratus with a driver named Mohammed, good luck! As I said I have always had good experiences with Uber in the past and will continue to use them. That is unless I have more experiences like the Mothers Day Uber Guy From Hell. I took an uber taxi from ohare. This is not a good experience for a couple of reasons: One, you get a taxi which is not always the best vehicle to travel in. Second, you have to wait for the uber taxi to get to arrivals (from the cell phone lot or wherever they hang out outside of the airport) so you are waiting. There are available cabs at arrivals that are ready to go (regular taxi service). Third, the uber taxi has to get permission to drive to the arrivals area to pick you up, (otherwise, they are essentially jumping the line to get passengers .. ahead of other taxi drivers who have sat there in line waiting for customers for hours), so it's this convoluted sequence of going to a certain location at arrivals and telling the taxi "foreman" that you are waiting for Taxi XXYYZZ to pick you up. THat's a time waster. It's confusing too, as the uber taxi person tells you over the phone the sequence of events you have to do to make this happen. Fourth, there is an automatic 20% gratuity on your app for uber taxi .. it must default to that, and you have to KNOW to have turned it off, or you will be surprised when you get your receipt at the end. Fifth, there's a $2.00 booking fee on the bill too. In sum, this is more expensive than a cab. The fare i paid was the same as the meter (which was running in the cab too.) I have been an uber customer for a long time and had one of the worst experiences I've ever had last night. I requested an uber last night around 6:45 pm for a pickup location at western and Milwaukee ave in Chicago. Blue Ribbon taxi 3836 accepted and picked me up shortly after. I got in the cab and asked if he was my uber and gave him my name, to which he said yes and started driving. I kept my mouth shut as he paid more attention to his phone and whatever was in the passenger seat the entire time. When we arrived to my destination (Milwaukee and Ashland) I said thank you and got out of the cab. He started following me down the street shouting at me asking where his money is. I was startled by this, walked back to the cab and told him that I had used uber and he would get paid through that. He kept yelling at me saying I owed him money and I kept saying that I was an uber pickup and I didn't know what he was talking about. Then he attempted to explain to me that he had cancelled the ride on his end thinking that I was a random person he had picked up. This alone is infuriating enough knowing that he came to the exact location I requested and he would have taken anyone on that ride if I had not gotten in. I said that is really unprofessional and should not be my problem since I confirmed that this way my uber ride when I got in. At this point I was late for work because he was harassing me. I gave him $10 cash for the ride which was more than he deserved. Since he cancelled the uber ride I knew I would not have a record of the ride saved in my account so I took a picture of the vehicle so I could report the issue. Upon seeing this, the driver got out of his car, approached me with his finger in my face and screamed "fuck you bitch". I told him that his boss would definitely be hearing about this and he just kept screaming "fuck you". I have had some unpleasant experiences before with taxis/uber drivers but this is one of the worst encounters I have ever had. I am blown away by his negligence, inability to have a reasonable conversation and total lack of respect. Experiences like this make me never want to use ubers services again and I sincerely hope instances like this are not overlooked. read more

I have used Uber alot how ever their service recently has gone way way down. I feel like because they have become popular, now their customer service is not something that they worry about. When I request my ride it automatically defaults to Uber POOL. Now I never mind riding with another rider, however it is a major inconvenience and extremely annoying to go even further away from my destination to pick up one or two people. Generally when I request I am on the south east side of Chicago and my Uber will go a few miles FURTHER SOUTH WEST before heading North towards my location. By the time I get North I am in the car for at least 45-50 minuets! That is ridiculous! Especially when it only takes 15-25 minuets to get to my location given traffic. I have also had the most sketchy drivers who took unnecessary routes instead of taking the route I suggest/request. I have taken better rides through LYFT and I would recommend taking a LYFT over Uber. At this point I would even prefer taking Public transit and pay way less before getting in another Uber and waisting my money and time. read more

I used Uber recently. The price on meter was $61 when I arrived destination. However, they billed me $128. When I emailed their customer support several times, they sent me a bill and make meter price $104 and added 20% tip for the driver (without even asking me) and they also billed me $2 for booking fee thus to make the total bill to $128 as the driver initially reported. I was shocked that this is the company advertising no tips and now they added 20% tip for their driver and billed me simply because they have my credit card number and can charge me freely. They acknowledged in their first email that $128 is "unusually high for this route" but refused to correct their driver's fraud and cheating behavior. This driver, btw, doesn't even speak English. When I contacted their support again, nobody responded. It'll be fool for anyone trust this company and give them your credit card number to let them feel free to steal your money!!! - Amy read more

The first time I used Uber was purely for the novelty of calling a towncar/escalade. But all things considered - price, convenience, easy payment process -- I can see myself using Uber pretty often. Reason #1: the app makes it extremely easy to call a car that is within minutes of your location. The app's homepage is a map on which you can set your location. Once you do so, it immediately notifies you how far away the closest driver is (usually within 5 minutes). You can call the driver with one click of the button. Reason #2: this one's obvious - sitting in a spacious towncar/escalade is nicer than being scrunched in a smelly cab. Reason #3: The price is only marginally more than a cab. I paid $19 (tip included) from Wicker Park to Lakeview. I paid $32 from United Center to Lakeview. I'm sure I would've paid about the same (after tip) if I'd taken a cab. Reason #4: You don't have to deal with cash. The amount owed, which includes tip, is charged automatically to your credit card. read more

We took a uber taxi from Chicago Sheraton Hotel and Towers 301 E North Water St, Chicago, to Chicago Midway airport, on 8/31/2014. The driver was Said from Blue Diamond. It was a fast ride without any traffic. At the end of the trip the meter reading was $27.68. But now the fare showing on my receipt is $39.85. This is totally not acceptable. The start and end point of the travel route was also made up by the driver. He changed the route now that both start and end point were the airport and the entire trip was 18 seconds. This is totally scam. The most disappointing yet is that uber doesn't really care. I contacted the customer service, they explained nothing but gave me a generic email. And there was no further response after I requested more information! I chose to use uber because I trusted it. But this unpleasant experience gave me entirely the opposite impression. Such a dishonest driver should never be driving a taxi and scamming people. Uber customer service could be improved concerning about customers. Please STAY AWAY from using Uber taxi if you want to enjoy your trip at Chicago! read more
