I am a driver that is making this review as a plea to someone that is in "charge" of the suburb expansion in hopes of them hearing me out. If I ran this company that just expanded to the 'burbs I would target festivals further out west (like around Elmhurst, Oak Brook, and, Lombard) rather than closer to the east. As being Elmhurst College alumni, I can tell you there is a huge market in the area and no advertising at social events that doesn't make any sense. There are pockets of people using it in the area but, most people are like "What?" "What is that?" or "is that only in Chicago?" I left my $200 prescription glasses in the Uber. I contacted them the next day and was told he would be in my area the next few days. He never contacted me. Trying to get a customer service person is impossible. I again contacted the driver and no response. I was able to send a message saying I was having a hard time getting ahold of the driver. He then called back and basically said he wasn't in the area but I could drive 45 minutes to him. I asked if her could mail them and he said he didn't want to feel responsible if something happened. We were in the middle of moving and it was impossible to get to him. I again tried to contact Uber and got a generic response. Been trying to start for weeks now. I'm trying to do this on the side. I know I'm not going to get a lot of money out of it. Their support is a joke, like somebody mentioned. I uploaded all of my paperwork. It was not going through and I had to contact them. After weeks of standard reply's they finally sorted it out. Now I had to go through a background check. There is no way you can do that through your account profile. I waited on them to send me a link so I can do it. I finally did it, I received an approval and I was ready to go. i was given a $50 towards my first ride if I do it by midnight the same day. Got home ready to go only to find out my account was suspended for some reason. I go through my email to find out that they did a second background check for some reason and listed me in San Fransisco even tough I live and have all my paperwork from IL. So again weeks of explaining, talking to an actual person from Checkr- the company that does the background check, only to find out that this is solely UBER's mistake because they listed me in the wrong city. And the person from Checker said they just need to review this and fix it. After numerous of emails again and people that have absolutely no idea of what they are doing, after promises that they will look into this and I will get a response in 48hrs... a week later they finally sort everything out and my account was activated yesterday. Only to get am email and a message that because of long inactivity they will deactivate my account if I don't take a trip within 3 days of now. Really???? I have not encountered more unorganized, problematic company. At this point this is just ridiculous. And I know it's not worth it, at this point I'm just going to make sure I write them up anywhere I can. read more

I recently ordered a cab through Uber on a trip out east. I had gathered all of my things and off we went. The cab picked us up at the specified time and dropped us off at the cta station as planned. Once on the train I relalized I had left a bag in the cab with many items to be used on the trip. I spent the next few hours trying to track down the cab. Being that I didn't have a cab company name or number it was only when Uber contacted me was I able to contact the driver directly. I was able to retrieve my things even though I was thousands of miles away from home. Had I simply hailed the cab on the corner, I may have never seen them again. THANKS UBER and THANK YOU GEORGE!!! Very convenient app and service to call yourself a ride. Summoning a black car to come find you makes you feel like a rock star, but it adds up quickly. I have only used it for black cars, and not yet tried it for a taxis. The one time I was about to call a taxi with it, another one came driving by. I will probably only "Uber" in situations where: 1. I am hailing a ride from a side street or someplace where there aren't many cabs; 2. When it's crazy busy downtown and I can't find a cab; or 3. I have been using Uber for six months as well as Hail. Generally, I have been satisfied with Uber but recently had a very bad experience. I arrange for a black car to pick up my client and take her to Midway from downtown. This is normally a $60 ride in a limo. I received a bill for $195!! claiming $65 for the fare and a $130 surge fee. Uber's response has been that it is a normal surge fee; really n a normal Thursday afternoon in Chicago? They need to better control their network drivers, otherwise, they will allow the less reputable ones to trash their reputation. read more

I am so impressed with Uber. It was New Years Eve and a blizzard, so I wore snow boots and put my heels in a bag. The driver safely got me to my destination in the terrible road conditions. As I got out of the car, one of my heels fell out of the bag, but didn't realize it until she pulled away. I was frantic as these were my favorite shoes! I thought surely they were gone forever, but then I received my Uber Receipt email. On the receipt there is a link that says "lost something click here". Genius! I clicked it, received my drivers phone number, and she returned the shoe to me. If it was a normal cab, I wouldn't have been able to figure out who my driver was, and the likelihood that they would return a shoe would be slim to none. Thanks Uber for being so customer focused. I had a bad experience in March 2013 when a 3 mile trip with surge pricing (they had just started) cost me $75 dollars! However they kept trying to get me back with free rides so I caved last month! Ever since with the 10 plus times we have used uberx they make you aware of surge pricing and this is more affordable than a cab when there is no surge! Last weekend I had a bit of a bad experience as a driver took a horrible route, got lost while on surge pricing. I loved this company, I really did. I sold my car and used them everyday to get around the city. Then one day they shut down my account. I contacted their customer support (numerous times) and they refused to tell me why. They asked me to send a picture of my credit card and when I told them I was uncomfortable doing so they stopped talking to me. No matter how many times I emailed them, how many times I asked to speak to a manager, they wouldn't respond to me. I understand the need to keep costs down and streamline the customer service experience, but I have never been ignored by a customer service representative and not had any recourse to contact management. Sad because I used to tell everyone that would listen how great of a company this was. Edit - After seeing my social media rants they resolved the issue. Painful that I had to go to such measures to elicit a response. Their customer service department needs work. Still, they did resolve my issue eventually. Great service, cheaper and faster than a taxi. Used it for 4 days on vacation. Reliable people. Met nice folks who gave good recommendations on what to do and where to go. Downloaded the uber app a couple days ago used it over the weekend and have to say we absolutely love it. My family and I went downtown Chicago for the weekend and took an uberx to the train from the train to our hotel and to various points in the city. All I can say is the drivers were very prompt less then 5 mins, always friendly and for the price we could not beat it. The comments made below are my own, from experience. Both driving and a rider for Uber. To the critics of Uber you'll not want to read my post as I'll be mentioning "common sense", below. You've been warned. So, I found out about Uber when I was visiting San Diego. I was trying to hail a taxi downtown, they kept driving by me, and I was getting annoyed because it wasn't even busy. 1pm on a Thursday. I could see them driving by looking at me. Eventually, I found out about Uber and their free $20.00 credit being a new user. I never even heard of Uber until I went to CA. That was a great incentive to join, as I saved so much time & money with Uber versus a taxi. I've had my fair share of paying for "surge". I have in Chicago and have paid the price. x3.0 from McCormick to lake view, but it was snowing out, so duh surge! What do you expect when an event ends and everyone and their mom wants to get home? Hence the surge pricing... The people complaining UberBlack is too expensive, well then don't use it. UberBlack is for Luxory series cars, Bmw, Lexus, and many more and they are "black colored cars". UberX is for the everyday person to use and is much cheaper. About the o'hare airport complaints. It's really simple and not that hard to understand. I've had riders cancel me to pick them up at o'hare, numerous times. I love this airport because it's easy in and out. But, the people at o,hare seem to be a lot more flaky than people at midway. to the people who have me drive 5 minutes out of the way and then you cancel. now you're gonna have to wait longer for another driver, and you're wasting your time congratulations! I don't know why anyone would want to be picked up at the arrivals unless it's someone you personally know, bus terminals, or taxis. If you have driven around o'hare, they don't let people just park there and wait for you. we need to keep going in the round about continuously until you come if that was the case. Being picked up on the departure level makes 100x more sense. It's not busy up there. I'm allowed to park for just a few minutes. You can easily find your rider. And there are signs that say, "ride sharing service here." Honestly, I'm not sure how much easier it could get. If you're being charged the wrong amount then tell the driver to "f off" and contact Uber. If you're being scammed that is your own fault. Uber doesn't deal with cash payments. Also, The poster who mentioned a "black" person did it, is extremely ignorant. I can understand the issue with personal belongings being left behind. I've heard time consuming stories, and I'm not sure how that can be fixed. I have heard a story of someone asking for money in exchange for giving a ladies purse back. That is theft in my eyes. I hope more people report when that happens to an Uber Rider. I also have to state another valid complaint. UberX in app map, and google maps have continuously lead me behind the persons home or building, and is incredibly annoying. Thankfully, I'm smart enough to look and match up the address so I don't end up in the ally way. Additionally, the map will keep taking me to lower Michigan and wacker drive which is also annoying. When I stared driving in the city I had no idea how to get up from lower wacker, I knew how to get down. So, I stopped driving downtown when I encountered that. I've enountered numerous times I've waited at a riders pick up spots for 5+ minutes. They're still in the bar, or not even there. I text and call goes to VM.. Then. I get a call after I cancel to pick them up. No. I'm not your personal driver and don't get Paid for waiting. This is a waste of my time and Uber should charge more for cancelations, or reduce the time of cancelations. Lastly people. We live in a new aged economy. Shop around if you think you're paying too much. Uber has price quotes, and taxis have price quotes. See what I'm leading to? You have choices stop complaining. Lastly, I don't know why taxi drivers hate uber. Y'all drive stupid even when I wasn't driving for Uber. I don't know why you think you can drive any way you want. I'd revoke your license. Uber is awful. They pull a bait and switch with the ride pass deal. I opened my app the ride pass offer popped up, of course it's a great deal you sign up for it and the coverage area shows and says the the entire Chicago area. Evidently this does not include rides to O'Hare. Not only did they charge me for the ride pass ($14.99) they charged me an additional amount for the ride ($30.28) and after 2 weeks of back and forth on their app, as that's the only way to communicate with them, their final response was "airport is not included in Chicago". I've since found other people having issues of the same nature. Beware if they offer a deal that looks good, you're area will most likely be excluded! read more

I ordered an Uber and it said be ready meet your driver outside in 1 minute so out I went. 4 cars passed by me slowly and I asked each one uber? And all had said no, sorry. Then the 5 car said yes and I got in. She allowed me in and off we went. She took me 3 blocks or so away and then she realized that she was not my driver. Her pick up was someone named Jake. I'm a woman and that's a boys name. I ordered pool so I expected there would be a chance of picking up someone else. We got to jakes house and she told me to get out of the car. I said are you kidding me. At least drop me off where you picked me up. It's after 10:00 and i am 60 yrs old on the mend of a broken leg. She said get out or I'm calling the police. I asked her pls do. She did alright and I got a ticket for disorderly conduct. Also 311 is not available in my area and uber has no way to contact customer service with a cell phone. I've have never been so humiliated and disappointed in my life. I thought my town police would have at least offered to drive me home. I thought that's what community service means.
