First trip: Listened to 25 minute rant from a sweet intelligent lady about all her ex's and their offspring and how she had figured out the formula to get more uber rides. I tried to stay quiet for the first 20 mins. She should have paid me. Second Trip: Got a call from the driver who said he was on his way but just had to "stop at the bathroom first". TMI. Third Trip: I texted the driver to tell him exactly where I was. I called the driver to see where he was - he went to the wrong hotel. I gave him the address again. I called him again to see where he was and if more than 2 mins to please let me know because I had to get to the airport. He never showed and then I got an Uber message "your driver has cancelled the trip". WTF! "3 min Uber pickup" made me 20 minutes late and cost me. I have had similar poor Uber experiences in NY. Good experiences a couple of times in various cities. Uber has a great opportunity to improve and training is key. read more

Absolutely the way to travel in Charlotte in my opinion. Yes, it's slightly more expensive than your average cab but the experience is far from your average cab also. Uber has your information stored and doesn't accept tips so everything is taken care of. I rarely carry cash but the amount that I have, I only like to use when there is absolutely no other alternative. Taxis take cards these days, yes, but the time it takes to print receipt and sign is bothersome. With Uber, they just bill your card and email the receipt. Majority of the times it's black car service but I have gotten the occasional SUV. No extra charge. Minimum charge is $10. read more

First Off....there is no way to "not know" how much you will be charged if you READ before you start pushing buttons. If "Surge Pricing" is in effect it gives you the option to get an estimate before you request anyone. Second, you have to literally type in whatever the multiplier is for the surge pricing. If it is 8X at that moment, which is a bit outrageous, then you would have to type in "I accept 8X the standard rate" I have been in this situation many times....i usually just wait it out and the surge normally drops quickly. Sometimes BlackCar will be cheaper than UberX under surge. And there is always the other option....call a cab. Also none of the drivers work for UBER so if you get a bad driver be sure to rate the driver accordingly, they are all independent contractors. I've only had one shady driver so far and i've been using the service for over a year. read more

I had a flight out of Charlotte at 7am so scheduled a pick up at 5:10am and got several confirmation. When it became closer to the pickup time I got notifications that Terrell was in his way and would be there a little early but would wait. Two minutes out he cancelled the trip. Uber found another driver and said 20 minutes away so I knew I still had time so accepted. I saw the driver was dropping someone at the airport. I waited for the driver for 7 minutes and then got a cancellation! Ridiculous!! Very disappointed with Uber and the fact they are unreliable. Won't be using them anymore. read more

I was picked up from the Wells Fargo golf tournament yesterday while it was raining. I later found out that my 2 mile trip that was suppose to cost me $14.00 turn into an additional $20.00 because her car got wet from the rain. I am disputing the charges, but this is ridiculous!! I have been using Uber for many years and never been charged anything more than the fair. I have even been given a ride while it was raining outside. Has this happened to anyone else?? Worst part is, they sent me the pictures of the car and it is simply raindrops off of my clothes and umbrella. I am completely disappointed with my correspondence with Uber as they didn't ask me any questions or see what I might have to say about my trip, they just tried to charge my card without even talking to me. Most riders don't realize they're being overcharged with Uber's new upfront fare. In addition the driver is not entitled to any portion of the overcharge. The rates are way too low for drivers. Drivers have so much cost tied up in vehicles, insurance, gasoline, time, maintenance, customer service and risk, that it is simply just not worth the effort. Uber will show the rider one charge but the driver never actually sees what the rider paid. But, of course, rider and driver frequently compare the discrepancies which show the gross overcharges. Uber is the most greedy scam company ever. They ought to be investigated at the highest levels. When new rideshare services come along please be sure to sign up for those instead. read more

After hearing only wonderful things about Uber, I decided to try it on a recent trip to Charlotte. It was a disaster. The driver they sent Jamie neither spoke nor understood nor read English. He seemed to have absolutely no idea what he was supposed to do and after a 40 minute delay, we decided to get out of the car and get another form of transportation. Since we were unable to communicate with the driver, we were unaware that he was sending another Uber driver to finish our journey. When the second driver called us , she explained how to cancel the trip. Uber then leveled the five dollar charge for the cancellation. When contacted, they canceled the charge. How could something like that have happened? I can't imagine that that driver could have passed any kind of vetting. I'm so disappointed. I was looking forward to being able to use Uber but I certainly will never try them again. read more

I have been using Uber since last fall and it is a really cool thing. You can select if you want a car, truck, SUV, or other to pick you up by using the app on your phone. I use it whenever I need to take long distance trips like to uptown or if it is too dark to walk home. They send you text alerts when your driver is on their way or when they have arrived to pick you up. It is cheaper than a taxi or Lyft. Every single driver I have ever had has been down to earth and super friendly. Always give your driver an honest rating when your trip is finished. They email you your receipt too. read more

Let me say this first, I was not charged anything excessive like some of the reviews claim on here, however, my 2 star review is based solely on the fact my driver was a horrible driver. I had to let my driver know that he was driving down the middle of the street (I'm talking straddling the white line) and almost running another car off the road. His response, 'ok, thanks". As we got onto the freeway (I-277), with a spend limit of 50 mph, he proceeded to putt at about 35 mph. I expected to be hit at any moment. Overall, a very stressful 15 minute ride. I have both used it as a consumer and driven as a driver. Passenger experience: The guy was not very friendly. He didnt greet me when I stepped into the car and simply asked where I was going? I said, NODA and I can direct you. He rudely interrupted and said, " no I know how to get there" . The fares are cheap but the price goes up exponentially in times you actually need a ride. Which is something that I dont appreciate because I think there should be a standard fare rate fair to both the rider and the passenger. Also, their surge is ridiculous and no where can you report if you were taken advantage of. I hate that they claim that they are better than taxi but are they? Cab drivers do jack up prices in peak times but never 4 times as much and when they do jack the prices up, you have the right to complain. With uber, NONE. DRIVER EXPERIENCE: They have dropped the rates so low that it's disturbing, I was raised in Charlotte and know the whole city. It is not worth my time to drive someone 3 miles and make $6.60 and lose $1 for the 'safe ride fee" and another $1.20 for the uber commission with net fare into my pocked of $4.40 for THREE MILES??? That's about 3 miles out of my way that I have to go to drop the rider off and 3-5 miles to get to my resting point. NOT TIME WORTHY at all. People who ride are cheap and broke. They try to force the uber X driver to accept more than 4 passenger which is far above the capacity, knowing UBER XL is an option but it is nearly twice as much. I just have to sit there and accept their BS because I don't want bad rating. It's not fair. Nonetheless the SURGE does come in handy sometimes but that's one trip out of 15 which really makes you feel like crap because you feel like your other fares' compensation is too low. However, consumers have adapted to this whole surge thing and only use it when the surge is not in session. which leaves me screwed as a driver because it's not FAIR to me to donate my time for chump change. I drove a couple nearly 25 miles once and the fair was only like 18 bucks. take away 3 for commission and 1 buck for the "safe ride fee" leaving me with $14 for driving 50 miles, 25 out of way and 25 to get back to uptown or wherever the starting point is. I've only used Uber twice was to and from the airport about 9 miles which only cost about $12 each way. Standard cab fair within 277 is $30 each way. We could track the drivers arrival and while finding the driver at the airport was a little difficult I would definitely still be using Uber the next time. read more

Charged me $200 for a 9 mile ride. They will not tell you what the price of the ride will be before you get in, so they can basically charge you whatever they want. DO NOT USE! But not because I could use you with my own app, it was due to the fortunate experience of my friends who had credit or debit cards that were not discriminated against. It's been well over a year that I re-downloaded your app to try to use Uber again so I could be responsible on a night out on the town. A night on the town in a city that I just moved to. But not surprisingly, your technology and app still will not accept prepaid debit cards. Which makes absolutely no sense to me because there has to be funds on the card to use it. I can enter all my information and as soon as I request a driver I get an error message "there is a problem with your card" (or whatever the specific verbiage is). I find it very ironic that I can pay any other bill, transact with any other company that takes the VISA logo and wow, even all my employers over the past 5 years have figured out how to direct deposit payroll to my account - that's right, my account that is a prepaid debit card. Why have you not either figured this out or why is it that you discriminate? My business still goes to the taxi cabs - they take my money just fine. Outstanding service. Used Uber for the first time to go to a Knights game, both to and a return trip. Most of these negative reviews are suspicious on their face and lol like guerrilla attempts to avoid the obvious. That being that cabs are antiquated, dirty, and unaccountable for shoddy service. All these suggestions that the Uber driver over charged (e.g. $200 for a few minutes) couldn't happen and would be resolved by disputing the amount with the credit cad company. I get it, cab companies, you know you are dead but these fake reviews are pathetic. I've used Uber in Charlotte and all over the world and none of these things happened. I rely on Uber now as my sole transportation (to improve my green footprint) and been using it for 3 years. It started out as an experiment and it went so well I sold my BMW and use it as my sole transportation. The drivers are professional, respectful, have never cancelled and always get me there on time. I pay less than what I paid to maintain my car (it helps I live within walking distance for much of what I need). The cars are clean, well maintained, and half the cost of traditional taxi's. After some harrowing experiences with traditional taxis; rude attitudes, shady pricing, reckless driving, smelly cabs, erratic service and reliability I will only take Uber. They do it better, faster, cheaper, and their rating system weeds out the bad apples. My only suggestion is allow us to select smoke free cars; for those of us sensitive to smoke, it's unpleasant to ride in a smokers car; even if they don't smoke while you are in car; it reeks like an ashtray. read more

I got my ride to the place I went for free with the first ride $20 off. But when I got my ride home it was like 3 miles at most and it said on recipt 6.2x normal rate. So I paid 46.60 for a 10 minute ride to my hotel. And idk if they even made that apparent bc I would absolute have just called a cab.
