We were sold a Mazda CX5, noticed electrical issues and took it back to get fixed. A couple weeks…read morelater, there was now an issue with the engine, and significant coolant consumption. Took it back where a repair was offered. Upon collecting the car, the air filter screws were not fixed into place, and the horn had been removed and not put back into place. We were ushered back to their mechanic to fix this. The next day, the engine failure was worse. All warning lights came on. Engine light, TPMS light "on", stability control disabled light also came "on", traction light came "on", and also the engine had a blow by issue. We took the car back and requested a refund, by law this is an acceptable request. The salesman John flat out refused the request for a refund, he said by NZ law they do not need to accept the request of right for refund and to repair the car. We had given them the right of repair, and the workmanship carried out was so poor, that we have driven away with a car in a worse off condition. After back and forth of requesting a refund, he gave us two options, to have the car repaired by them or for us to write in wording a request for a refund, which was done on the spot. I went to collect my husband from the dealer to which I was told there was no refund that would be given as by NZ law he does not have to give us a refund and only the right of repair. I do not know why he gave us the second option of writing a request for a refund if he kept up with the lie of not being liable to give a refund on a faulty car he sold us. Because this being untrue, and we have a right of refund BY NZ LAW we have to take this company to the disputes tribunal to get our refund, as we gave them the right of repair and they failed completely leaving us with a worse off car. John asked us to leave as we were making a scene infront of his customers because he did not want them to know that they deny the request of a refund when they sell you a car with a major fault in the engine, and upon giving them the right of repair, the workman ship is so bad that the car comes back worse off and they still won't refund you! See us at the disputes tribunal John, where you can pay for all costs involved in the process of getting our money back

I purchased a car from them…read morethat broke down 2 weeks after purchase and broke down again 10 minutes after it had been repaired. The Motor Vehicle Disputes Tribunal has agreed they breached the Consumer Guarantees Act by selling me a car that was not free from minor and substantial defects. They were ordered to pay me money and pick up the car within 10 days. This has not been done and I am having to go back to the courts and lawyers to have this decision enforced. Universal Imports are dishonest, lack professionalism and accountability. They do not care about their customers and their customer service is non existant. Save yourself months of stress and hassle by purchasing your car from other dealers. This outfit is DODGY.
