Who knew it would take so long here! So infuriating. Why is there a street light in the middle of the lineup that lasts forever, like it had to be between 5-10 minutes? It's not cars go the other direction, and cars are so slow that it's not for people. It take so long people get our of their car to walk, stretch their legs, go to the washroom. We were crossing the border from Canada to the Untied States and we waited 2 hours on a weekday morning. Its like a Disneyland ride wait time but there's no ride at the end just a border patrol guy who is actually pretty nice but oh god is the wait long. Some pointers: - If you can, try waiting on the left most lane because at the end, it splits off into 3 lanes from 2 lanes so at least you have a chance of going forwards faster. Ehh. It's pretty much hit or miss when it comes to going back into the United States. It depends mainly on if the attendant you get is having a bad day or not. If they are, they will usually take it out on you by asking extra dumb questions besides the standard ones. Questions like who was the first president of the United States and what do the stars and stripes mean on the American flag. Every now and then they will randomly select a car to to pull over so that they can personally inspect it. I would say out of all the times I have come through here, I have been asked to pull over twice. Of course they found nothing incriminating because I am a fine law abiding citizen. Basically, the main thing they make sure you don't bring back with you is fruit because there are some bugs that can ruin crops in the states. Of course if you look suspicious enough and if you seem nervous when replying to questions then you will definitely get pulled over. Some tips. Obviously, go to the bathroom before getting in line. I think the longest I ever waited was like 4 hours but then again, that was on a 4th of July late afternoon when everybody was still on the road. Don't blast your music no matter what place in line you are in. Not only will the border agents will not like you, but the people around you will get annoyed as well. If you have babies or young kids, be prepared with distractions like toys or movies. If you have a significant other, you can take turns going to the bathroom. It's a quick form that I filled out after being turned around, and completed before I even got fully turned around. The form asks you for the same things you have to bring to show the border agent. You move at a snail pace. Terrible bottle neck street. Each car can take 3-5 minutes. It moves so slow, I took both my kids, one at a time, walked them to the visitor center restroom and changed them and came back and we barely moved about 5 car lengths ahead. Tip, if Google Maps says it will take 2 hours to get to Seattle or Vancouver, add an extra hour to be safe! Very nice well kept park in the middle. There is a duty free center on the Canada side. Probably the strictest border crossing that I've ever experienced upon entering Canada. Its difficult to hate these guys because they have a serious job to do. I understand that you will be asked questions when you are leaving Blaine, WA to cross into British Columbia. But good Lord, what is the deal with some of the more ridiculous questions??? I love the questions that you get when it revolves strictly around weapons. The questions are all about stumping you to see if you are carrying weapons or drugs across the border. Here is a sample of what I was asked. Border Patrol Agent: When was the last time you've shot a gun? If I were to search your car right now for weapons, would I find one? If you found a loaded weapon on the ground, would you shoot it at someone? Do you know that bringing weapons into Canada is illegal and if so, where can I find your illegal weapon in your car? And before you want to tell the Canadian border agent to go suck on it, you have to realize that they are doing a vital service to THEIR country. You act up, and more than likely, the Canadians will detain you for a while. And that actually sucks, but welcome to the 21st century. That's just the way it is, and we'll have to endure an interesting 2-3 minutes of ridiculous questioning from a rude & fugly border agent before entering a really beautiful country. What's funny is that despite having longer waiting times in re-entering the States, the Americans are like "Hey man, have a good time? Welcome back." That's about it. Long story short: the Canadians are really, really tough here, and the Americans are somewhat nonchalant. I've crossed this border crossing three times now, and each time was eerily similar. I strongly recommend not playing any Jedi mind tricks with the Canadians, yet pack a lunch waiting to cross the border with the Americans due to the wait time. The DMV gets a lot of flack for being poorly organized, but it's hard to find a bigger government cluster than US C&B. They managed to turn a 5 mile stretch of highway into a parking lot, all so they can ask me if I have any fruit. I feel so much safer. Strange that the Canadians can do this in a much more organized fashion in order to ask me if I'm carrying any firearms. The grounds do offer some picturesque scenes with bathrooms and a small place for food. You can park at these areas before joining the line up. I'd recommend this, especially if you have kids that need to stretch their legs. However, once at the station, please have your paperwork ready. Nothing is more frustrating and delaying than having to hunt for it in the moment. They have plenty of signage to remind you. The roommate and I saw all the signs while driving. 40 min delay at the US Border?! That can't be right! It only took us a few mins to cross the Canadian border. Well, the signs were right. We got to the border on Monday, January 18th around 2:30pm and didn't cross until around 3:10pm. To be fair, yes, there should be proper screening when entering the US, but it should be better organized. There were two lanes leading up to the border booths. One lane separated into three booths and the lane we were in separate into... one booth! How does that make sense?! They should have done two and two. Suffice it to say, we picked the wrong lane. I can't stress enough how important it is to be prepared when nearing the border. Have your passports ready, basic info about why you're crossing, etc. And most importantly, have all your family members and/or friends inside the car! This was super annoying as the wait was long, so people got out of the car and walked around. As we started moving, there were drivers looking for the rest of their passengers, meaning, they weren't moving their car! As if a 40 min delay wasn't enough, I don't need drivers getting out of their cars to delay the process even further. I saw one guy running towards a car in front of us, carrying two children, not even even looking at traffic in the faster lane trying to get back to his car. What a dumba$$! First, you delay the border crossing by having who I assume is your wife, keep stopping her car and getting out to look for you. Then you run across a traffic lane without looking?! This listing is for the Peace Arch border crossing. My preference is for the Pacific Highway crossing over this one. I had one extremely long wait crossing here one time and have since tried to avoid using it. To be fair, that one instance was on a Sunday in the mid-afternoon which is one of the worst times to cross since it is full of cars with Americans returning from a weekend in Canada. If you are basing your decision on which border crossing to take on the highway sign with wait times, you might be disappointed with your decision. The wait time tends to be longer than what is posted. I took a day trip with my sister and brother-in-law a couple days ago and used the Peace Arch crossing on both instances crossing the border. I thought the actual border crossing process this time was pretty smooth. There were no extremely interrogative questions, but the waiting time was a little long. If you need to cross the border at Peace Arch, make sure to do so during off-peak hours. Preferably early in the morning or later in the evening. Otherwise expect a lengthier wait. read more

As many times as we have been to Canada this location might be the worst with attitude coming back to the States. We sat in line for an hour. We watched other lines moving much faster than ours. We got up to for our turn and suddenly we realize it is the guy in this booth. He is asking questions, so many questions. He had a snotty ass attitude, which there is no reason for it, he is getting paid to be there, we aren't. We weren't snotty back in the beginning, yeah it is sad to say were were there long enough to say there was a beginning. He says pop the trunk, we pop the trunk, he is back there 5 mins. not an imaginary five minutes, but I can see the clock. We have one suit case and a bag with wet boots. The suit case could have been dumped in that amount of time, which I suspect he did, as crap was in the trunk that was in my suitcase when we got home. We were finally waved on, but really if he had a better attitude that would have taken the sting out of the wait and we have been pulled over coming into Canada at a remote border and had our car searched and passports taken and that took an hour and they never told us why but they were super nice doing it at least. read more
