My SO and I decided on a whim to drive to Vancouver for a few hours while we are in Washington. We didn't wait that long to reach the Border Security. We were greeted by an unsmiling Border Security. Who scrutinized and asked us questions as if we are criminals. "How come only a few hours? Are you dropping any drugs? Are you carrying any weapons? How much cash do you have with you?" And more.... It made us squirm in our seats but we stayed calm and answered questions matter of factly. The Border Security let us pass through and we were able to breathe a sigh of relief. Going back, we had the same experience. And almost the same questions as well. We stayed calm and collected in answering them. We were let through without any mishaps.

Not really a fantastic experience here with a border guard who was gruff, firm and efficient. He asked a lot of questions, rapid fire. And he was seriously concerned about the last digit on my license plate which is a question mark. Yes, North Carolina allows 20 or more special characters and the last one I have is a "?" "Happy Thanksgiving!" I offered. "It's not Thanksgiving here." He replied, curtly. So even though Officer Friendly could have been friendlier, I was back in my home country after a weekend in Vancouver and then this 30 minute queue to clear the border. Get your iPads ready because you can start and finish a movie while waiting in line. Let's be real this is the US, so it's going to take awhile. We were crossing the border from Canada to the Untied States and we waited 2 hours on a weekday morning. Its like a Disneyland ride wait time but there's no ride at the end just a border patrol guy who is actually pretty nice but oh god is the wait long. Some pointers: - If you can, try waiting on the left most lane because at the end, it splits off into 3 lanes from 2 lanes so at least you have a chance of going forwards faster. Of course if depends on your border patrol guy up in the front. - Honestly leave your car and stretch out your legs because there is a lot of waiting and honestly the surrounding areas are quite nice. The Peace Arch Park is right next to here where you can see the arches and on the right is the beautiful coastline which I would recommend. - There are no bathrooms in the area so go to the bathroom beforehand. Anyways so bring out your iPad and snacks and get ready to wait in line.

Ehh. It's pretty much hit or miss when it comes to going back into the United States. It depends mainly on if the attendant you get is having a bad day or not. If they are, they will usually take it out on you by asking extra dumb questions besides the standard ones. Questions like who was the first president of the United States and what do the stars and stripes mean on the American flag. Every now and then they will randomly select a car to to pull over so that they can personally inspect it. I would say out of all the times I have come through here, I have been asked to pull over twice. Of course they found nothing incriminating because I am a fine law abiding citizen. Basically, the main thing they make sure you don't bring back with you is fruit because there are some bugs that can ruin crops in the states. Of course if you look suspicious enough and if you seem nervous when replying to questions then you will definitely get pulled over. Some tips. Obviously, go to the bathroom before getting in line. I think the longest I ever waited was like 4 hours but then again, that was on a 4th of July late afternoon when everybody was still on the road. Don't blast your music no matter what place in line you are in. Not only will the border agents will not like you, but the people around you will get annoyed as well. If you have babies or young kids, be prepared with distractions like toys or movies. If you have a significant other, you can take turns going to the bathroom. They are available just right off the road. In closing, all you need is patience and you will be just fine. Yelp 2023 Review #35 927 overall

Short line today.

The US Border Patrol is easy one to cross. The Canada one is the one you need to watch out for long wait. A good choice is not crossing on the begin of week week or long weekend. You will expecting line will form. We chose the day to cross on Sunday which most of the traffic actually heading to US. The Canada border line is light because everyone head home to US. The border has walking park. You can have the driver on queue while the passengers can enjoy the park.

february 23, 2018 * took about 30 minutes to get through on a Friday at around 12PM, not bad if you're doing car karaoke.

First time driving into and out of Canada. First time experiencing border patrol for motor vehicles. No expectations. Is snowy February not peak season? It took ~30 minutes on a Friday at 12PM. My friend and I had a grand ol' time waiting in line while doing car karaoke. Some people got out of their cars and played in the snow. Super chill as we rolled into Canada. - Asked us why we were going to Canada - Asked us where we were coming from - Me being the playful person I am replied with, "we're up to no good," but he had this blank apathetic face. Not into jokes I guess? Slightly more tense vibes going back into the US. - Asked us how we knew each other - Made me roll down the back windows - Asked us if we had any dangerous weapons of sorts with us - Asked us what ethnicity we were/languages we spoke - He then proceeded with a "Happy New Year" in Mandarin/Cantonese. Guess he wasn't as tense as I thought - On this side of the border, US officers will walk down the line and randomly chat you up and check out cars. Didn't happen to us, but one big truck definitely got searched. Some folks took longer, but my friend and I were through the gates in less than a minute. 3 Stars because this should be much quicker. Come onnnn!

Finally in Canada!

Good people guarding the borders. Thank you, workers, for being kind and responsible of citizens of your country and other countries, too.

We didn't have an appointment, but even as a walk-in, the entire process took less than 30 minutes. It wasn't very crowded, and the office was well-organized. There are clear signs explaining that appointments are prioritized, which is helpful to know, and the electronic screens keep you updated in real time so you always know your place in line and estimated wait time. The clerk who assisted my husband was friendly, efficient, and professional. Overall, we were very pleased with how smooth and stress-free the visit was. A surprisingly positive DMV experience!

It's been about the 5th time I've gone back and today they told me I need another two documents signed and notarized by my parents that live in Florida. To be fair the people working are not bad people, but I really wish they could've just told/given me all the documents I need in order to change my plates and tabs. It takes about two hours for my parents to drive to the place in order to get something notarized and now they have to do it again. Also my insurance runs out in about a week, which is ridiculous because if they just gave me everything at once then I could've probably gotten everything at least a month before. This is also not completely their fault tho, hence why it is a 2 star. Since USPS gave me an incorrect change of address the first time around, and the second one came late as well. I'm sorry to the staff there but this whole mess has made me more stressed than I have ever been during University. Why isn't there like a full list that you can give us to complete? I saw that another review had a similar problem as well, like why? Why would you want us to come back a handful of times? Sorry for the rant but this is my honest review.

They alternate between the appointment and non-appointment line and the non-appointment line was ten times longer in one case. That's around a three hour wait without an appointment! As with other ICBC offices, this one is hit or miss. Sometimes you get lucky and get someone who really wants to be helpful. Sometimes not. I was lucky on my second visit here to be rescued from a "customer is always wrong" employee who thought my number hadn't been called yet when it had been called. The guy kept telling me to wait for my number and sit back down, which would've meant that I lost my number and would have to make another appointment and come back later or wait for three hours as if I didn't have an appointment. Luckily, someone else saw that this person had no idea what they were doing and fit me in, but if they hadn't that would've been a very bad experience. It would be nice if there weren't employees here who do their best to be unhelpful. If this were a privately run shop, I'd give it one or two stars for employing people like that, but if you don't grade on a curve for government run services they'd all rate one or two stars, so I'll give this place three stars when compared to other governmental offices you might interact with.

Everybody expects to have minor…read moreheadaches and everything when they go into this office or any kind of department of licensing or motor vehicles office anywhere but in some ways, this one I felt was pretty bad. firstly location. Well, the location itself isn't bad. It's also not great. The entrance is tucked away in an area where if you don't really know where you're going you're probably not going to be able to find it. There's also the fact that the location doesn't have anything like a spot where if you have a bicycle, you can tie up to or something. Another thing is the management of this office seems to be an extremely rude individual. Constantly belittling their staff and regularly being an absolute nuisance, right in front of the individuals who have come in and are waiting. some of the staff aren't much better. The individual that I got was an older woman who barely even looked at me. Let alone spoke directly to me. She kept speaking towards her computer screen, and I could barely hear her. small part to the little safety window thing in front of her. now, maybe I just caught her on an off day but still there was no personality in it and her interactions were very cold and almost indifferent. I mean, I'm not saying need to smile or all that very least they need to be polite and honestly she wasn't. honestly, if there was a better location, I would probably find another place but unfortunately for me this is the closest location that I can find. Also, if you utilize a service like Uber or Lyft, you're probably going to have a little bit of difficulty because there are no pickup spots anywhere near the location. I literally had to cross over towards a bar or something to actually wait for my ride to pick me up.
