The day before we go to pick up our truck I get a call that it needs and oil change, so can we come later in the day. When we get there the clerk tells me that they don't have a tow dolly for my car, and there isn't one for 150 miles. I think to myself, "I bet I know where there's a tow dolly", and call penske. They have us in the truck we wanted in an hour! The bottom line, Penske may be more expensive, but they guarantee you a clean, new truck, on time, and just how you wanted it. Plus, we didn't have to pay for miles with Penske, so we used the truck to pick up new furniture at garage sales for a couple days after we got to Portland. Totally Excellent!

You borrow a vehicle or a trailer, or both, to move "stuff" from one place to another. It's usually not a fun task, and it would be great if they made the process of actually moving more fun. But U-Haul does offer moving services, moving accessories, and plenty of local options to get you from place to place. I checked into this location online and had my reservation ready to go when I showed up at the store. All I had to do was to show ID and sign up for any insurance, and minutes later I was in the borrowed box truck and on my way. I only needed it for a short time, but what I asked for is exactly what I got. I also had friendly service and plenty of explanation of what to do when I brought the vehicle back. If there was any knock, then it was the fact that the truck I borrowed was pretty filthy, but since it had 140K miles on it, it had seen some road time. You can make a reservation online, which is probably the easiest thing to do, or you can do so over the phone. If you borrow a vehicle, just make sure you fill the tank before you bring it back, because it's $4.25 a gallon if you don't. Their check-in process also makes you take photos of the vehicle before you leave the lot, so that any liability concerns of previous damage do not reflect upon you. Moving stinks, but U-Haul can make that process easier.

Partly it is because it is a smaller airport, I think. They have a limited selection, and you have to do a lot of work yourself because they don't have staff to assist you (check the car for damage, note mileage, note gas, check it in, etc). I had to wait for the couple in front of me...for 20 minutes...before they'd check me in. There were 2 people there, but I guess one was being trained. The "trainer" apparently had no interest in doing any work herself and was determined that the trainee do everything. Which is OK, if your goal is to sincerely help training, but not at the expense of customer service! Anyway, the trainee asked me all kinds of personal questions I had never been asked before. I can't remember what all I was asked, but at one point I just said I was not answering the personal questions anymore. I was asked how far I planned to drive, where I was going and for how long...I said I was going into OK. Anyway, the car they had reserved for me was tagged as "limited mileage restriction". The trainee asked the trainer if they really wanted to give me that car because of my distances, the trainer just shrugged and said "we have no choice". Wait...what? What does this mean? Is there something wrong with the car? what? Anyway, service was shoddy and shifty at best, the parking lot was nothing but a skating rink, so very difficult to get my luggage to the car, loaded, and then safely get the car out. HELLO! Ice your parking lot! It had been 2 days since the snow storm, you've had PLENTY of time to clean up your lot!

They will call when they find an issue to talk through recommendations, options, and pricing. Last winter I had a broken window that I needed fixed ASAP, and they were able to get my car in the next day and they called around to find a replacement window so I could have my car back within a couple days of it being broken.
