My swan song from a disappointing trip in the bird department. Off the eye test, it doesn't get much better. The beautiful sight of tissi's rotating in front of a fire breathing oven, potatoes in the tray below collecting the chicken juices as they fell, had me ready to run around the Bastille plaza yelling "LE MOUVEMENT!!". I thought this was going to be my first high level bird in the City of Light. Much to my chagrin, the one I got was just lukewarm. I was ready for my fingerprints to be fully burned off. There was so much potential here, but as always, I have to judge what's in front of me. If I don't have my integrity I have nothing. It landed at an 8.1/10 on the restaurant scale which is good, but if it was hot it could have been up there with the greats in the rare 9 territory. Unrealized potential is one of the most depressing things in the world. IG @johnny.novo Tiktok @jnov__ Substack @johnnynovo

Don't get me wrong, the 12 Euro and up wine is great too, but why spend that when you can spend half and drink well? The "grocery store" brands here do not compromise on quality, and there are tons of well-curated items here... my favorites-- well, aside from the wine and beer section-- are: 1) the bottled pancetta and tomato sauce (which is really difficult to find in this store); 2) the chocolate-dipped gaufres (5 to a pack for less than 1.50 Euro); and 3) the store-brand carrot soup. It is very easy to find complements here to round out a great meal around cheese and a baguette from somewhere really good. Sometimes the people who work here can seem like jerks, but that was surprisingly not true on my last visit... note well: they close at 19:00.

I am being generous with this review…read more Quality/Quantity - The better of the two markets we visited today. It was our first day here, so I needed to stock up on supplies - Water, fruits, snacks, and of course beer and wine, lol. I think I was spoiled by the huge upscale market that we went to every day in Nice. You know the one I am talking about, because you are following. Ambiance - Decent size, but an irregular shaped market. Has the minimum of everything we need. But it would be nice to have a full service deli, bakery, etc. Service - This is where it all failed... They/she had the hardest time getting our loyalty card. She struggled entering our phone #. Then the cashier started helping someone else with a complaint when it was finally our turn to check out. The cashier just could not figure it out, so she started going through her garbage to dig out all the previous receipts. The person behind me got impatient and started complaining. The customer that cut in line started complaining. I almost just left... Price - I did not even look; I just wanted to get OUT of there. Oh, everything we bought did not have prices, so all your labels need to be updated... What a mess! Owner Comment - Not sure what you need to do, but you need to hire better employees. Oui, oui there are grocery stores in Paris, not only Michelin restaurants and fancy cafés! One such grocery store is Franprix. It carries everything you need to cook that homemade meal (popular during quarantine life *sigh*), lots of fresh fruit and a myriad of affordable juices! Beer and Champagne too, Coco! Sure, we need food for sustenance, but damn, make sure it taste amazing! So when in Paris, and missing Trader Joe's or Sprouts (like Yelp friend, Linh describes), Franprix is your Parisian answer. On my visits I especially love the nice help-yourself bakery if I'm craving croissants, baguettes, etc. and on the run! Franprix is owned by my French friend Fran C. Haha inside joke! Kidding aside it's a French grocery chain located all over Paris. Founded back in the 1950's. So my French friends must be doing something right;) This particular location is just blocks from La Eiffel Tower, but really it's everywhere across metropolitan Paris. In the end, I recommend Franprix to anyone looking for a quick healthy bite or a quenching drink after a long walk to-and-fro the museums. It's grocery store affordable and the European staff very friendly (most bilingual: French, English). Trés Trader Joelie for the win!

This market offers a one stop shop for those on the go. The self check out lanes makes it easier as well. You can even select English for ease of use. The checking out process is a little chaotic but just be patient and you'll be fine. There are the normal self checkout debacles, (although their machines do let you choose your language of choice) so you can at least see where you failed in the scanning process. Which will just mean you will need to constantly flag down the poor store clerk that's working that area for the day. Every other item you scan will have an issue and that staffer is working with about 8ish self checkout station so again patience is the name of the game here. If you choose to go to an actual cashier that is supposed to assist you with buying your items, this experience will be hit or miss. Meaning only 1 or 2 lanes are actually open and the cashier either have a horrible attitude or they are very helpful. Today was the first time in a long time I had someone who was actually helpful. In this store there are mainly locals, so very little tourist action. But don't be afraid to ask for help if you need it. But if you're like me, legit sometimes you don't want hotel food or eat out.
