IN A NUTSHELL - every interaction I have had with Dr. Tyson and his staff has been EXCELLENT (and there have been many over the last 15 months). This includes diagnosing a rare eye disease, cataract surgery and other procedures to reduce extremely elevated eye pressure. If you want the full story, read on, but I highly recommend the Cape Coral Eye Center and Drs. Tyson and Tibbetts. All of my interactions with Tyson's office have been excellent; timely service, pleasant staff, and complete answering of all my questions.
My first contact with Tyson Eye (Cape Coral Eye Center) was April 2015, after having been to two other ophthalmologists who were unable to diagnose my eye issues. Dr. Michael Tibbetts at the Cape Coral office made a preliminary diagnosis of a rare eye disease and sent me for blood work to determine if this was what I had. The testing confirmed his diagnosis and I finally had some treatment that offered relief from my unusual symptoms. Because my condition is very rare, he referred me to a specialist who treats this condition (located on the east side of Florida),
Fast forward to summer of 2016 - I had developed serious cataracts as a side effect of the various eye drops prescribed by the east-coast specialist, and my eye pressure rose to the 40s, which is very serious, Consults with three different glaucoma specialists at other group were not getting me any relief from my problems - just more drops and meds. I was unable to drive, unable to go outside in bright light, and was really struggling with trying to continue working.
I met with Dr. Tyson for a local eye pressure check (pressures still in the 40s despite all the meds) and he recommended cataract surgery and suggested other procedures he could do at the same time that might bring my pressure down (advising that these might work, might not; the next step would be some sort of drain-hole implant surgery). He was very concerned that my elevated eye pressure had gone on for too long (this can cause permanent blindness).
I went forth with having Dr. Tyson perform the cataract surgery and other procedures in both eyes, and all has gone exceedingly well. My vision is good (used mono-focal lenses due to my underlying eye disease), and my eye pressure dropped down into normal ranges. Over the ensuing weeks, he has been weaning me off some of the eye drops and meds and testing my eye pressure weekly, and everything has been great. It appears that I will not need the more extensive surgery for eye pressure, which is a relief. ALL of my interactions with the Tyson group have been outstanding - I've received appointment reminder calls, prompt service at every appointment, and excellent communication and care in every step of the process. I feel that Dr. Tyson LISTENED to my issues and got the job done, and I am very grateful to him. I will continue to be monitored by Dr. Tyson and by Dr. Tibbetts inbetween my appointments with the east-coast specialist. read more
