I searched for months for lodgings that wouldn't charge by the person by the week but by the week alone. Finally, I came across Robertstown Holiday Village. Not only were they affordable but they accepted a down payment and payments well in advance of arrival. So that was a major plus. Upon getting set up, (I was the first one there, the others arrived later that night) the owner came by to see how everyone was doing. The property was right in the heart of Robertstown, with a pub/grocery store within walking distance, and the cottage we were booked into had a pond in the backyard. Couldn't be a better place to stay in all of Kildare, as far as I'm concerned. I recommend them to everyone, even 15 years later.

It did set a precedent as the staff were great, the ground good for pitching tents and the facilities clean. They have free hot showers and a kitchen/laundry area. It's a 5 minute drive into Kilkenny town centre or lots of people were walking along the river (which took around half an hour). There is bike hire on site but we didn't use this facility. Overall, a great stop for a touring holiday and there are lots of things to do in Kilkenny. It's a lovely town.

This is still a great campsite. The lake, campfires being allowed etc etc…read more But on two occasions our visit has been marred by other campers being extremely loud. On this latest occasion, earlier, they had their own loudhailer to direct the party games they're playing. Now their bass heavy music is so loud two other groups of campers / caravaners just upped and left. We've got earplugs, so will persevere. Other things to note: firewood has gone from a bag being 3 EUR, to the option of a 4 EUR bag or a 5 EUR bag. The wood is pretty great though, for burning. I wouldn't come back again if it was just the two of us. But we will be back when other friends come here... like next week :)

Lough Shore is a fantastic park area on the shores of Belfast Lough at Jordanstown / Whiteabbey…read morewhere the kids can play at the fun park, adults can stroll along the beach / shore path and everyone can some good clean fun in the sun (or rain, as is often the case!) There's a great kids play area which was recently refurbished to keep it up to date with the times. There's also a big grass area where the kids can play a game of footie or you can throw down a towel and relax in the summer sun (while you can!) There are also picnic tables and benches where you can enjoy a quiet sarnie by the sea. There's even a small caravan site where touring caravans can set up camp and enjoy a stay at the shore for a minimal fee. The facilities of the camp site are currently being updated so hopefully this out of date and small camping area will be modernised to a quality, attractive area. Currently it is a one star park that accommodates six caravans and one tent.

Now, being nearly 40 and increasingly removed from popular culture I miss the odd fact, like this weekend Marley Park was playing host to 30,000 music fans, which makes things like a picnic on the main stage a bit of a challenge. "What's that?" my wife asked as I drove on, wondering where the hell to go and 'I wonder if the people in that house would mind if we just set up camp on their front lawn?' It would probably be fine (picture worried looking people peeping out the sitting room curtains as the family Q picnic on their lawn)... till we start nipping behind the shrubbery for a pee... "What?" I reply and then see the sign for the Padraig Pearse Museum & St Enda's Park... I had never heard of it but having nowhere better in mind we decide to give it a bash. It's days like this where I should have done the lotto - we struck lucky with a spectacular park and grounds, full Brambles café (for those without picnic) and the weather to match. There is also an old castle ruin (a folly I'm pretty sure) which kept junior amused for ages. Well worth a visit, we didn't go into the museum, will save that for a more inclement day.

We had a nice little adventure. Would love to stop into the Pearse Museum but my two year old's attention span and noise levels wouldn't allow for a museum visit at the moment, another day perhaps! Not sure it's the most dog-friendly of places, spotted a very strict sign about dogs!! I could be wrong though. Regardless it's very peaceful and lovely spot for a picnic.

Despite this, Camac Valley is not a bad place to pitch up for a few days. The campsite is well-equipped and family friendly, with a laundry, kitchen facilities, a 'wet-day room', a library, internet cafe and a children's playground. The number 69 bus departs from Aston Quay, and stops right outside the entrance to the campsite.

Experience.... 5/5 Horse Temperament... 4.5/5…read moreRoute... 4/5 What a beautiful day in Ireland. The sun was shining the sights were breath taking. The stable managers were very helpful in matching horse to rider and helping with getting on. I was very happy to have the extended ride and the trek was worth it! The route was super muddy because of rain earlier in the night. For about half the trip, we didn't have an exact path and wove through the forest/countryside. The horses were definitely exhausted by the end of our journey, but continued to respond fairly well to requests.

We really enjoyed Sunday. Thank-you to all of the friendly team and dedicated management for making our time so much fun.
