Two women workers, at the entrance and in the gift shop, were snooty and unpleasant at having to answer basic questions. The worker at the entrance claimed there was a paved road bike trail around the park, but in addition to that road being absolutely covered everywhere in a thick layer of pine needles, making it very dangerous, the road was closed - and it was unclear whether it would be allowed for bikes to go in the closed-off area. There were no informational signs anywhere indicating the presence of and caution against snakes, ticks, poison ivy, poison oak, etc. The trails were not well marked and randomly stopped and started. It's $20 (!!) to rent a paddle boat or kayak for an hour. They have crappy postcards.

My new favorite State Park! It was New Year's Day and the wife and I wanted to do some type of outdoor activity with the Grandbubbies! We have always wanted to check out the lake, but were even more thrilled to find that they had a walking trail all the way around. Talk about gorgeous views and a glorious day! The grandcubs had a blast, as we got to stretch the legs, see some wildlife, and enjoy the scenery. This will be our new stomping grounds every time I'm in town! Thinking about getting one of them annual park passes! I absolutely recommend this park, as the terrain is relatively easy to walk around, has a small general store, looks as though there are camping sites available and several BBQ areas and tables around for day picnics. As always, Enjoy & Happy Trails to you!

BEAUTIFUL!! Lots of tucked away camping spots. Gorgeous lake that was warm enough for a swim and easily accessible. Bathrooms/showers weren't bad- hard to keep all those bugs away. Would definitely return!

The park is recently renovated; the facilities are clean and park store had lots of options for purchases. Lots of campsites but still very quiet. The hiking trails were enjoyable.. there is one that walks around the lake that is recommended. Boats, canoe, and kayaks are available for rent. The pictures on the website aren't as helpful when trying to picking out your site, since the photos are pre renovations. But overall enjoyable camp and some scenic spots.

I enjoyed my time at Tyler State Park. It is a large park with many campsites. There were lot of animal noises (one growling) throughout the night so if you are tent camping, I'd recommend ear plugs. Hiking early in the morning was great. There was no one else on the trails and the water was still, very peaceful.

Favorite Texas state park yet! This was a nice little day trip from DFW and well worth it. From the moment I pulled into the gate, I felt like I was in another state. The trees and landscape are beautiful and really make you feel like you're away from it all. My friend and I did the A, B, C loop trails and clocked with about seven miles full of ups and downs but not too challenging. They have clean restrooms and picnic tables at the trailhead so you can sit down and have a snack or meal afterwards. I cannot recommend enough!

We just got back from our first camping trip at Tyler State Park. The camp grounds are kept very clean and is very spacious to set up all your gears. My three boys had fun running around, exploring, enjoying the hammock and the beautiful lake view we had from our camp site. The bathrooms and showers were very close by too. They are very old (even though I can see that they are trying to keep it as clean as possible). From our campground there were several trails that was easily accessible with little children. We had fun exploring them all. We absolutely loved our first experiencing camping here. And the park rangers were so helpful and friendly making sure everything is okay. 5 stars all the way!

Easily the best state park in Texas. We've been here twice and both times found the park clean and trails cleared. Both times we rented a shelter and these have electric as well as water outside. There are usually benches outside the shelters as well. With more than 10 miles of trails to hike this park, the views of the water and different trails make it our go to outdoor spot.

This is my family and I's favorite state park we have visited so far. We recently bought an RV and have been taking it all over the country. My son and I came here first for a boys trip and had the time of our lives together. We went hiking, fishing, bike riding, I showed him how to start a campfire with a magnifying glass. The gift shop is full of all sorts of neat camping and assorted gadgets for Fishing, marshmallow roasting, RV literature from the 1930s to present day. We will definitely be back, but only after we visit all of Texas' other awesome parks.

If you had a Mother's Day or Mom's birthday to buy flowers, for it was a big deal to give her Tyler roses. If you were sweet other girl at school, it was also a big deal, if you not only gave her roses, but roses directly from Tyler. I had always wanted to see this Rose capital of the world. It was an easy day trip from Dallas and gave me the opportunity to see this Ground Zero from some thing that has a strong memory for me growing up. The gardens were beautiful, and when the breeze was just right, the fragrance was amazing. But I have to admit I was a little disappointed that it was not like our Arboretum, Or something like that. Nevertheless, it was worth the trip and took me down memory lane!

There are a bunch of different spaces to visit, and it is well maintained. While we were there, a 3-year-old kid and his grandma were walking around, and the kid seemed to have no object permanence. He would trip and fall into a bush, get back up, and fall into the same bush again. It's not important to this review, but it was hilarious and worth sharing. Anyways, this place is a must-visit for locals and visitors! RIYL: Roses

Designed and built by local riders and businesses, the intent is to open up cycling to everyone. That's exactly what has been done. This trail system can be enjoyed by all skill levels. It is essentially split into three sections that can be entered or exited off of a granite loop that can also be iced for a warm up or down loop as well as for runners or walkers or those with children. The trail is constantly being maintained and improved. The one thing I'm not happy with are that some of the trail in the last section is not marked well and you can find yourself riding a few loops over again or even riding the wrong direction! So be careful of this. The system has At least 6 miles of trails, this number may not be accurate anymore with the additions and in fact, my ride today ended up being 7 miles and I know I coulda pulled more out of it. Attached to the park are tennis courts, a splash pad, playground equipment, baseball fields, a small pound that is stocked yearly, and miles of hiking, biking, and jogging trails. Also, you can access the South Tyler trail system from here which is an excellent trail system that will take you all over the southern part of the city. The trail system is growing every day. Also located here is Tyler's newest Police Station so there's no shortage of police presence. I always enjoy coming to this park to run, ride, practice yoga, or just relax.

The grandkids really enjoyed the adventure of being on the train and seeing all the historical displays located in both train stations. Several weeks before, we reserved tickets on the Dome train. It was awesome to be so high up and we had great visibility to see all around. I also recommend ordering the lunch beforehand so when the train arrives in Rusk, you don't have to wait in line to order food and then go wait in another line to pick up your food. You'll need to call the phone number listed to place your order for food. A very nice lady helped me and I'm sure you'll receive the same excellent customer service when you call as well. There are picnic tables to enjoy your lunch at the Rusk station. No outside food or drink is allowed on the train. Your train ticket includes a bottle of water and a healthy fruit/veggie pretzel snack. Everyone enjoyed watching the train engine switch around to the new "front of the train" for the return trip to Palestine. You'll pass by the old turnabout that was used in the past. I highly recommend this train excursion for the young and the young at heart. The rhythmic motion was putting most passengers in a restful state, with many resting their eyes after lunch on the return trip. All ages can appreciate a train ride that takes you back in time.
