Today I was greeted by an employee who got specific details of my needs, noting them on a slip of paper to present the window agent. I waited less than 5 minutes and handed the agent the paper; it expedited things. I didn't have to start from the beginning. I had two issues that involved a lot of questions on my side. I was glad that she could answer everything, especially clarifying something I've been confused about for months. One thing I think they can improve on is being friendly. This employee wasn't rude, but she wasn't friendly. She was simply all business. I'm giving the customer service a one-star only because I can't give negative numbers. I called because I had updated my account for a new license plate in early July but received a bill in late August. When I contacted Texas tag through Harris County Transit, the representative was willing to remove the late fee and credit my toll to my standing account. When the same thing happened today from Central Texas regional mobile authority, they sent me 8 Harris County who then told me that I had never updated my account. They never saw anything and they couldn't help me in any way. When I pointed out that they had already helped me once in August the representative told me she couldn't help me. When I spoke to her supervisor I got the same thing. All I wanted was the $4 that I was charged for not having a tag removed because I have a tag. But she refused to help me in any way. Where to start? I think the best summary is to say that confusing, late, and even incorrect billing is their entire business model. Their billing is so confused and confusing that they will send you bills four years after the trip. If you have your bank account or card attached to your TxTag account, then be careful or you may see $300 or more disappear when you least expect it. Of course, if you don't attach a pre-payment method, then their billing gets even stranger. You will either be billed by TxTag or a 3rd party, and there's no way of knowing which it will be (or when). This is beyond confusing. Their customer service is equally baffling. Their payment page hasn't loaded for me for two weeks now, so I tried an online chat. I was told that my address was "invalid" even though I copied and pasted it from account information on the TxTag site. I had to dig up an old address in order to allow the representative to access my account. They couldn't help me with the web site as I was already following their suggestions (use Chrome and allow tracking cookies, which is a very bad idea). I couldn't get how much I owed, or how to pay it, from the rep. I picked up the phone and I was able to make the payment, but...come on. I cannot prove that getting drivers to pay late fees by having terrible billing systems is the goal, but from outside, this seems to be what they're aiming for. you will constantly receive toll violations unless you sign up for autopay. we were negative for a day and because of the toll violation fee it went from $17.00 bill to a $37 dollar bill from fort bend county toll road authority. With K-tag, you'll get an itemized breakdown of tolls, pay what you actually accrued, and not have to do this pre pay nonsense. Txtag can't even sort out local tolls or keep track of them. Inefficient time suck. When you get a bill in the mail, it's easy enough to pay it online, and the first screen encourages us to go paperless and save! I tried to order a sticker and do just that. My license plate was "already in use." Not true - it's ON HOLD for a payment. After you pay, you HAVE TO CALL to get your license plate released so you can order a sticker. Try again, your license plate number goes through, but you get repeat information screens with no explanation. Call again (call tree, options repeat over and over until you finally get a person), and you're told to wait 1-2 hours after the license plate is released to finally order your sticker. There is ZERO reason the online system can't recognize a payment and let people get a sticker without speaking to a human. (1) needless jobs for people answering the phone and (2) needless jobs for people to mail hard-copy, fuel and paper-wasting bills and (3) They don't want you to have a sticker because of (1) and (2.) Meanwhile fees add up while waiting for paper statements. I have a TXTag and money in my account, but for some reason several tolls are billed to me manually each month. FOR ANYONE NOT WANTING TO USE TXTAG, Kansas's K-Tag system works for Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, and most roads in Colorado. There is no additional fee for being out of state. You just pay your bill online every month when it's emailed to you. Much better website and much smoother service. read more

These guys suck. I got a bill in the mail for driving through a toll station in Dallas. However, on the date in question, I wasn't anywhere near Dallas, nor was my car. Looking at the photo of the car that racked up a toll, it wasn't even my car! The license plate sorta matched mine, but was from out of state. Obviously not me, not my car, not my violation. Long story short, I had to spend 45 minutes on the phone being bounced around from one call queue to another, being placed on hold, and having to explain my story over and over, so I didn't get charged for some violation that I didn't commit. There's no way to explain this over the internet. They seem to make it impossible to contact them online regarding such issues. These people are ridiculous, and I hope they go bankrupt real soon. They charge you for unintentionally driving on a toll road. Even if you get off that road with the next exit being less than a mile off, you still get a big bill for it. The cost should be based on usage/mileage or don't charge at all. Their online system is also pretty bad. It is full of errors when you try to change settings or want to make a payment. read more

I've been receiving bills for a license plate I haven't owned for over 4 YEARS due to their atrocious scanning technology. There's NO chance it could be my license plate (and TxTag knows it) because its been sitting at the bottom of a drawer since I traded the vehicle in at a dealership in January 2019. I've called at least a dozen times and gone through the process of having the charges waived and being adamant about disassociating this plate with my account to no avail. It is astounding to me how awful TXTag's website is and how borderline impossible it is to register your vehicle under an account or to even have phone support do it for you. I can't get my password changed or updated even though the site requires it due to a "new and improved site" that literally looks and functions exactly the same as the initial site. I called to update my password and have a vehicle added to my account and after 40 minutes of being on the phone, attempting to do this very simple thing, their website crashed and I was told to call back later. I would give them 0 stars if I could. Someone explain to me why I would have TX Toll Tag automatically charge my account if they say I have to pay it ahead of time as well. I set up an account Feb 24, 2023 and never had any issues until August. Suddenly Pike Pass and NTTA started billing me separately claiming it's TX Toll Tag's fault. TX Toll Tag says that I need to preemptively pay my account even though they've been charging me with no insufficient funds. The other 2 said it's TX Toll Tag, and TX Toll Tag says it's because the automatic payments aren't good enough to keep payments updated for the other 2 tags. I drive hundreds of miles a day for my job. The other 2 tags wouldn't suddenly charge me every six months unless there is a system error. This sounds very much like one or both states are charging unnecessarily to make more money, or TX Toll Tags are a scam. read more

My account settings change constantly without approval, it is often impossible to access account information due to constant "website updates and errors", and I can never fully verify if all my transactions are correct. If I could give them a big fat zero I would. I had a tag with them 11 yrs ago . I had so many problems with them overcharging me & I only used the tag on 5 occasions about 1 X a month. So it was easy to keep up with. I used SH130 IN APR & JUNE they put those 2 bills together. ( This is how they get & confuse people) Why did it take 2mo. to send a bill. I paid the bill 20 days before due date. My third trip was in Aug & I just received the bill. Mind you this is second bill I've rec. & Their already scamming me. My bill should be $10.75, but oh no I have a past due balance of $17.35. Total $28.10. I paid my last bill in full. I can only imaging all the money they are scamming off people who use the tolls frequently. Now I have to call them which isn't easy to do & get even more frustrated. So I got a new vehicle and called Tx Toll tag to her a new tag . A couple of weeks later not tag , I called again and they said the vehicle was never added so they said they would add it and send me a tag , 2 weeks later , no tag. I called again to explain the issues , the say that they would add it for sure this time . 2 weeks later . No tag . I called again really frustrated, I explained to the girl the issues , she said " We can't find your car in the system " How is that possible when the other 3 reps said it was added ?? Receive a bill in the mail bc their gate didn't read my tag, received an additional charge as a result. Then I try to call in to pay, either I get a busy signal or am just on hold indefinitely. I instead try to pay online (the TxTag site isn't secure) I try to pay after looking up the acct # assigned to me I click to pay then can't bc their site wont load the proper field, I literally can't pay a bill that I have been overcharged for in the first place... Extortionists. Every time we received an inflated bill from TxTag, it was after we ended up on a Toll road accidentally because of poor signage and no option to escape. That is because TxTag do not ever give you an option to drive off, as is the case with every other toll road in every country in the world. If you get on a toll road by mistake or as a result of poor signage, immediately after you drive on the toll road, there are always exits before you are charged. Not so with the scammers at TxTag.
