Tire Tread Service

(16 reviews)

My Grandma used Tire Tread services recently. She has been a loyal customer for the past 40+ years,…read moreand I have never once heard her complain about how they treated her before this most recent visit. I am not sure who "Danny" is that works there, but he embarrassed my sweet Grandma so unacceptably on multiple occasions, I would be surprised if she ever felt comfortable or safe using their services again. He tried to take advantage of her by quoting her over $800 for a $250 auto part. When she tried to question it and advocate for herself, he put her on blast and argued with her, causing a scene in front of multiple other customers. Now, I don't typically give negative reviews, I love supporting local businesses, but when I hear that an innocent person was taken advantage of by a supposedly "specialized professional", I find it severely disconcerting. We are supposed to be able to trust these individuals to take care of our loved ones by providing the best care possible for their automobiles and make them safe and reliable to drive. At the very least, I would have expected my Grandma to have been treated respectfully and professionally. I was shocked to hear otherwise. I won't encourage others to avoid this business just because my Grandma was victimized by a single employee, but I do hope that a certain level of accountability will be maintained within their staff moving forward.

I was traveling through Virginia and staying in Fredricksburg for a night and I saw there was a…read moreFirestone shop three minutes from my hotel. This local Firestone had good reviews, so I made an appointment on the app for four services to be done the next morning. On my arrival, I identified myself and requested the four services. Two hours later, my car was ready and we continued on our six hour ride home. Later in the afternoon we stopped in Baltimore for gas and that's when I noticed an annoying scratch on the rim closest to the fuel filler cap. This scratch appeared 3-4 weeks ago and I don't know how it happened, but it bugs me because I see it every time I gas up. But now seeing that scratch on the same wheel location as before I got the tire rotation means that the Firestone mechanic failed to rotate that wheel. I was furious. I called the shop and spoke with Mark, the manager on duty. I explained the situation and how his mechanic didn't rotate my tires. But did he rotate or not rotate the other side?? Mark looked over my work order and saw how the original service advisor noted the tire rotation from my app request, but he didn't request the service to be performed. He acknowledge the failure, owned up to the failure and repeatedly apologized. He wanted me to come back so they could perform the work, but as mentioned earlier, I live six hours away. Also, FWIW, I have "lifetime" alignment, rotation and balancing, so there was no direct financial loss to me. Mark expertly defused my anger. Instead of BSing me, he owned up to the mistake and wanted to fix it. I understand that mistakes happen. I appreciate his honesty and the way he handled me as a poorly serviced customer. For that reason, this Firestone gets five stars from me.

Maybe I've just been lucky, but I'm happy with their work!

I first made contact with Crown Auto when my vehicle developed an interior cabin leak. The owner suggested it may be due to a clogged sunroof drain tube which he cleared using an air pump at no charge. Granted, the process took less than 5 minutes. So when I took my vehicle to AAA car care in Fredericksburg for an inspection only to receive a quote for $1,970 in repairs, I returned to Crown Auto with the expectation that not only would it would cost less, but that I was dealing with a honest and trusted business. Boy! Was I in for a rude awakening!!! Crown Auto initially charged me $1,700 for LESS THAN HALF of the expensive repairs AAA was going to do. AAA was going to replace the two front headlights ($985), spark plugs, front and rear engine mount, a missing exhaust bolt, brake system service, and a 1 year alignment warranty. I only had Crown Auto work on the front and rear exhaust mount, exhaust bolt, and brake system service. Crown Auto kept my vehicle overnight even though the work took less than 2 hours (I took my vehicle in at 12PM, Crown Auto called me around 4PM with a quote. Crown Auto said nothing about keeping my vehicle overnight! When I did not hear from them at 5PM, I called and it went to voicemail, so I left a message. When I called again around 11AM then next day since no one bothered to return my call, I was told that my vehicle was ready). Crown Auto charged me $830 for 2 hours of labor and $100 in shop fees. AAA's shop fees were only $40 and labor cost was $1,150 even though AAA would have spent 2 hours or more replacing just the headlights. Added to all of this, Crown Auto is no AAA in terms of environment, amenities and location.
