We started with the brussels sprouts and the salmon bites. The sprouts are your standard balsamic glazed brussels sprouts but the serving size was great! The salmon bites were probably the most underwhelming item we tried, just fine, probably would have been much better if they were cooked a little more or possibly had a different sauce, unsure but they were still good overall. The drinks we tried, millionaire something and the redline were cool twists on classic cocktails but really just ok. For brunch we got the beet salad with steak and the salmon BLT. The Salmon on the BLT was just perfect, crispy and tender at the same time; I think if the bites were cooked the same I would have enjoyed them much more. THE BEET SALAD THOUGH, it was incredible. Now I love a beet salad, but so many are so underwhelming or downright bad, this was NOT the case. It may have been the best beet salad I've had in years. Steak was cooked well but really the beets and the salad were just so well done. The greens and toppings were just all great, I can't speak highly enough of this salad. I would probably get some extra dressing on the side next time but top notch. If you like a beet salad at all you have to order this one for sure.

Meadowcroft is off the beaten patch but very worth the drive to visit…read more This museum is sort of multiple museums in one. The highlight for me was the Rockshelter. (note that you need to go to the visitor's center and pay your admission before visiting the Rock Shelter which is down the road). There are timed tours several times a day. You start with a brief video at the visitor's center, then get in your car and drive to the site itself where you will be greeted by a guide and another video. It is a multi media presentation in that when it talks about a specific area, the lights focus on that space so you know exactly where they are referring to. After the presentation, the guide takes you for a closer look. There is also a 19th century village. You cross a covered bridge and are greeted with a home, church, schoolhouse and blacksmith shop. There are costumed interpreters that give you information on the buildings or give presentations. My favorite was pretending I was a school child from back then. Something really cool about the school house is that they had a reunion of students who had attended the school a few years ago and they all signed the black board. Walking back to the visitor's center, there is an interesting museum. It has information on barns and other farm equipment. It also features tropies and accomplishments from the prior owner of the farm who was extremely successful in horse racing. Although I'm not a fan of horse racing, it was interesting to see all the people that he had interacted with. The last place we visited was the Indian Village. It was fun going into the wigwam and also throwing the spears. A fun addition to the site. Overall, this is a unique treasure in the area and is well worth the drive out there.

I have been here on more than a few occasions, going all the way back to school field trips as a…read morechild. Generally, it's a pretty cool place to visit and explore. This time we checked out an "Experience" from our local library, which allows free admission. This program is great, and allows you to visit Meadowcroft, plus the Heinz History Center, and the Fort Pitt Museum. In the morning, we explored the visitor center and the Native American Village. We liked throwing the Atlatl, which launches big, spear-like darts at a fake deer target to see if you can get them to stick. Afterwards, we left the site to go have lunch about 15 minutes away, and then did a short hike at Cross Creek Lake, where we saw a historic Truss Bridge from 1881. We came back to Meadowcroft, and climbed the steps to the Rock Shelter. We had seen this before, but we were able to experience some excavation work with the staff and scientists. We saw a recent discovery of a chipped flint that was 3,000 years old. Afterwards, we finished exploring the rest of the property. We liked throwing axes, playing double ball, and some other games. The old museum part was slightly disappointing, as it smelled heavily of mold, and I didn't want to stay in the buildings because of the smell. Neat old coaches and wagons in there, but I saw them before, so we were in and out quickly. Lastly, we did the Historic Covered Bridge (looks like it was re-done recently with new wood), the school, church, blacksmith shop and log cabin. All pretty cool to see. Riverview Park has one of the largest and most extensive trail systems in the Pittsburgh area. With…read moreso many interconnected trails winding through different neighborhoods, it's easy to have a different experience every time you visit. I also like that you can step into a nearby neighborhood and grab something to eat before continuing your hike. Compared to Schenley or Frick Park, it also tends to be less crowded, making it a great option if you're looking for a quieter, more peaceful walk. That said, the trails are not as well maintained as many of Pittsburgh's other parks. Some sections are in great condition, while others have overgrown vegetation, uneven rocky terrain, steep drop-offs, and occasional hazards like broken glass. I noticed small pieces of glass along the Archery Trail, so I would recommend wearing hiking boots or sturdy athletic shoes rather than thin-soled sneakers. Because of the terrain, I think this park is much better suited for walking and hiking than for running. Most of the trails are not wheelchair accessible and may be difficult for young children, older adults, or anyone with mobility challenges. Even with the overgrowth, the scenery is beautiful, and many areas were filled with fragrant plants and wildflowers. I didn't personally see any poison ivy during my visit, but it's always a good idea to stay aware of your surroundings. One area that could definitely be improved is restroom access. There are very few restrooms throughout the park, and one restroom that had been open during a previous visit was locked in the middle of the day on a Sunday. Adding a few portable restrooms near the busiest trailheads would make a big difference for visitors. Parking is easier than I expected. While there aren't many dedicated parking lots, there is plenty of street parking throughout the surrounding neighborhoods. Depending on which trails you choose, you may also come across areas where unhoused individuals have set up encampments. During my visits, everyone kept to themselves and I didn't have any negative interactions, but it's something visitors should be aware of and another reason to stay aware of your surroundings in such a large urban park. The observatory has unfortunately been closed each time I've visited, but the park frequently hosts community events that are worth checking out. It's encouraging to see ongoing improvements, and I hope the city continues investing in this park because it has so much potential. Overall, Riverview Park is a beautiful place to explore and one of Pittsburgh's most expansive trail systems. While there are areas that could benefit from better maintenance, additional restrooms, and continued safety improvements, it's still well worth visiting. With a little more attention, I truly think it has the potential to become one of the best parks in Pittsburgh.

A ton of art work throughout Andy Warhol's life. The iconic paintings of Jackie Kennedy, Marilyn Monroe, Campbell's Soup, and Coca-Cola are all here. I had a fun time in the video booth where you can record your own distorted video just how Andy Warhol used to record his guests. The museum is $25 for adults, $13 for seniors, $13 for students with ID, and $13 for kids 3-18 years old. Located right by PNC Park the home of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
