Professional and Reliable Property Management I have been…read moreworking with The Cal Agents since 2025 to manage my house rental in the Bay Area, and it has been a consistently positive experience. Key Highlights: 1. Exceptional Team: I've had the pleasure of working with Wilsen, Ahyeza, Chris, Patricia, Jana, Fiona, Nikki, and Ramiro. They are professional, attentive, and easy to collaborate with. 2. Problem Solvers: One of their greatest strengths is that they never shy away from a hard problem. Whether it's a maintenance issue or a tenant concern, they tackle it head-on with a level of responsiveness that is hard to find. 3. Trusted Partnership: When you are looking for a partner to manage an investment property, creating an empathetic and caring relationship with the tenants is the most important factor. They have proven themselves to be reliable stewards of my property. Pro-Tip for Owners: Because they manage a diverse portfolio of both condos and houses, I found that providing clear context on my specific expectations for house-level marketing and maintenance from the start created a great feedback loop. Their receptiveness to this high level of communication is exactly why our partnership works so well; it ensures everyone is aligned from day one. Overall: If you need a team that is responsive and capable of handling the complexities of the Bay Area rental market, I highly recommend The Cal Agents.

I spoke to one agent, then made an appointment to have calls with others. The Cal Agents called me, and in less than a minute I realized it was someone from a Philippine call center. What a slap in the face. Outsourcing is a hot button issue, and I will NEVER share personal information with someone overseas, but also: WHY? Are they too busy for a two minute call to make that connection? Introduce themselves? Answer relevant questions? And perhaps MOST CLOYING: is this the same company that employs those same call centers to make masked cold calls asking to buy our property? HARD PASS.

Sarah is incredibly knowledgeable about both home construction and the East Bay market. While touring homes, she walked us through every inch and provided assessments comparable to professional inspectors we've worked with. In the rare moments when she wasn't 100% sure about something, she brought in her husband Nick (who has decades of construction experience and now specializes in home inspections) to provide a second opinion. After only a few tours, we felt like we'd gotten a thorough education in home construction and maintenance, which we especially appreciated as first-time buyers. One of the things we appreciated most was that we never felt pressured to make an offer. Sarah proactively pointed out potential issues, including things we never would have noticed ourselves. She was completely transparent about the real costs of addressing less obvious but major problems, even when it meant we'd end up passing on a home. Sarah also has deep relationships throughout the East Bay real estate and contractor community. She connected us with great lenders, inspectors, and contractors. Her rapport with other realtors was equally valuable. Leading up to the offer deadline, Sarah maintained continuous, proactive communication with the listing agent. We truly believe her persistence and advocating for us made a huge difference in the seller choosing us despite other competitive offers. Beyond her expertise, Sarah is simply an amazing person - empathetic, fun to be around, and genuinely invested in her clients. Even after closing, she's continued to be an invaluable resource as we navigate all the questions that come with being new homeowners. We're so grateful to have met Sarah and wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone looking for a knowledgeable, trustworthy, and all-around wonderful realtor.

They agreed to meet me while I visited in June to do reconnaissance, and we had a very cordial discussion about what I was seeking, and when. When I arrived in Berkeley in late August, I had already sent them examples of homes that interested me, and we had an email/phone dialog to help adjust my expectations and focus me on areas and types of homes that made sense, given my tastes and resources. We started working together on the ground in late August, and I made an offer on a home that stood out from all others by early September. Sarah and Ellie continued to guide me through the purchase and closing process, as well as identifying issues with the property that needed to be addressed in advance. Sarah has an excellent network. What I feel stands out about Sarah and Ellie are the following: - They love what they do - They are skilled in taking in their clients' needs and preferences, and tempering that with basic realities about the Bay Area housing market, both in general, and at any particular time or set of circumstances - They have long, deep experience in the East Bay - the houses, catching areas of concern, the history of the neighborhoods, etc that they leverage in helping their clients to find appropriate homes - They are flexible - my Mom was a realtor, and I was a driver in sending them listings, asking questions, telling them I wanted to see certain properties, etc, and they went with the flow, and even enhanced my experience by being willing to look at other houses we saw for sale that looked interesting on the way to the houses we planned to see - it was not only productive, it was a lot of fun I have now been in my home for 3.5 months, and I could not be happier with where I live, thanks in large part to Sarah, Ellie, and District Homes.

My prospective…read moreroommates and I were looking for a place to rent (four working professionals with excellent credit). We went to an open house for a house in the Oakland Hills and were told it was a good idea to submit a $30 application ($120 total) because we were competitive applicants, so we did. We then wait to hear back from him to no avail. We called five times, left four voicemails, he never responded once. Finally, we get an informal email say our applications have been rejected, without a reason explaining why. It feels like we were slightly conned out of our application fees when he knew we didn't have a chance, and then proceeded to ignore our phone calls. Sort of reinforced the stereotype of Realtors being in the same vein as car salesmen.

This review is specific to the agent SHANNON PROKUP…read more Shannon was always on top of things, ready to jump on new listings and to show us them, proactive in getting information from listing agents and always anticipated what my next questions would be and would have the info before I even needed to ask! We went into our lengthy househunt with a cynical attitude about prices and a general distrust of anyone whose job it would be to advise us and could benefit from the transaction (i.e. realtors, lenders, etc). I wanted a "safe neighborhood" with a "good school" with 1500+ square feet, and in our budget that was virtually impossible to find in Oakland. We saw soooo many houses, but Shannon never complained about our picky-ness. She offered professional feedback and never waivered in her commitment to finding us a home that we were happy with. I truly felt that she was an advocate for us. Ultimately we ended up with a larger place, and at a better school, than we had even expected. AND we can walk to many of the things that we could when we lived in our little 2 bedroom apartment. This was way beyond our expectations! People keep telling us that we got a steal, and we think we got a great value, but we could NOT have done it without Shannon! IF YOU'RE READY TO SEARCH THEN CALL HER! Even our lender kept telling us how awesome she was. (also, I am sure that there are other good agents at that office, but don't settle for someone else. We worked briefly with another agent and it was p-a-i-n-f-u-l in comparison.)

She also has a fantastic team and everyone she connected us with was just as professional and helpful, from the loan process to the initial inspection. Each person was an expert in their field and took the time to answer any questions we had, which gave us even more peace of mind. Without Romeena, we honestly don't think we'd be in a home right now. I was robbed at gunpoint on the front steps of the building that they managed and initially Sandy wanted to charge me for the entire apartment building key replacement - since my keys were taken from my hand. Aside from that she charged us a ridiculous amount out of our security deposit for issues that she couldn't prove. If you rent from Asset Property Management, take pictures of everything that can hold up in court. Or better yet, don't rent from them at all. It is a nightmare. Also, if you're considering employment under Sandy, beware. In the short time that I've dealt with this company there has been considerable turnover.
