I was…read moretraveling across the country and this quiet park situated about 25 miles west of Omaha, Nebraska was the perfect place to rest for the night. I discovered Elkhorn Crossing through the app on my phone called Campendium. Upon arriving here, there's a little "introduction board" posted near the entrance. I pulled my car over and read the sign with instructions on how to get situated camping. There was a small pamphlet/card to fill out. Included with this was an envelope to deposit $10 cash or a check into the drop-box. Then I teared off the receipt portion and attached it next to the campsite of my choosing. That was it. I was good to go! I'd just like to point out that Elkhorn Crossing is closed for 5 straight months out of the year from November 1 - April 1 which obviously makes sense due to the winter conditions. For me stopping on by back in August 2020...I had nothing but warm weather, lol. What I really liked about this Elkhorn Crossing was the amount of space and area to spread out on. So although when I visited back over the summertime there were other campers nearby my tent...they actually appeared far away. I felt like I had a big section of grass all to myself. Also...this was important. You were allowed to pitch your tent on the grass area so it made for a fluffy setting to sleep upon. Most campsites these days (especially the more primitive ones in remote locations) feature hard dirt grounds to rest on. For those campgrounds I use my inflatable mattress for padding. Some real good aspects to Elkhorn Crossing that I appreciated was not only the campground area being so spacious...but every site had a barbecue pit to cook including picnic tables. For anyone bringing food and groceries with them...it's the ideal place to enjoy a cookout. Also good was being able to back my car nearby my tent so this way I didn't have to walk back and forth far setting myself up. If I had to reveal anything disappointing, it'd be that there weren't any showers or restrooms on the grounds. Sometimes I get real lucky at campsites I pick where places actually offer these amenities. But usually I have to pay more than $10. Those types of campgrounds (mostly within RV Parks) cost more in the range of $25 - $50 for the night. But I am easy. I have no issues using the vault toilets. Although I never explored around this Elkhorn Crossing Recreation Area, I did check online a lot of other outdoor activities for having fun here. This included... - Fishing - Float trips down the river - Playgrounds - RV Camping - Wildlife Viewing (though I didn't see anything) I really liked the picturesque scenery during sunset. I sat back in my lounge chair and appreciated the views out into the distance. Goes to show how much space there was available here that I was able to admire an evening summer sunset. Overall, I very much enjoyed my time and stay for the night here at Elkhorn Crossing Recreation Area. It was a great pit-stop along my driving journey around the USA. I'd certainly recommend to anyone needing an easy going stop for the evening...this place is more than serviceable.

I think this is one of my favorite parks around Omaha. The owner is great, always putting on…read moredifferent kinds of events for different groups of people (young adults, families, etc.) They have an ATM on site, as well as outdoor showers. Also a permanent canopy/tent that can serve snacks etc. Right by the Elkhorn River. Campsites all along the edge of the river, all have fire pits. Picnic tables everywhere. Beach access to the river (you can also set up an appointment with Uncle Scott's Outfitters and be picked up at this park to drive up river and float down the river for a couple of hours, then you get off at Riverwest's beach. Private park open to the public, so you have to pay to get in. I personally don't have little kids or anything but I have seen plenty of families camp out here.

Love this little lake Treasure located just outside Ashland (between Omaha and Lincoln). It's got…read moreamazing primitive tent campgrounds on the lake with wonderful views and relaxing spots. Also has camper spaces. It doesn't get the traffic like big camp grounds in my experience so it's more peaceful and costs significantly less- only $8 for primitive camping ($5 more for vehicle permit if you don't have state park pass). When I was there in May I had the whole camp ground to myself save one other camper on the edge of the park. Camping is self-sign up with slips around park. Has fire pits and wonderful lake with tons of birds and avian wildlife to see and listen too. Hundreds of baby geese. Good fishing and local Dons Bar is the only food stop in Memphis so don't be afraid go on in and try a cheeseburger or fish- the bartenders super friendly-Also get fire wood there too. It isn't a far drive from Omaha- 35minutes if there's no road construction and is better than most campsites in platte or Mahoney. Take a trip there it's worth it!

It was 90 degrees humid, late in the afternoon... and we had a blowout on the RV. These people went beyond kind and thoughtful. They were preparing for a large celebration the next day. They took time to help us. We were able to rent the very last spot. The park is gorgeous! Level spots. Ease to park and hook up. Perfect!!! I visited Branch Oak in Spring (when it was a little too cold for water sports, but not too cold…read morefor walking around and enjoying the nature). It's quite a large body of water (the 9th largest in Nebraska!), so there's a lot of space to boat and fish when it is the season. The last time we were there, we saw a duck migration and got some cool photos from that, so there's definitely some cool naturey things to see. Aside from that, there's not too much to do here, but it's a nice place to relax and get some light exercise (or do some boating, swimming, or camping when it's nicer out!)

We did have a seadoo, which was able to be put in near by and then we anchored near our spot. It was warm, and had a lot of shallow areas. Be aware of the sand/mud as it can pull you in and if you're not a great swimmer and cause panic, so just be careful. We camped across the lake and it was very pretty to watch the sunset and sunrise from our site. I look forward to coming back.

There's enough room to walk around the park for exercise, if people desire. There are benches and several trees. If your dog likes water, there is a gate to the lake next to the park which is fenced in with the fence running down to the lake. This allows your dog to go for a swim. It's a really nice park in the middle of Papillon. There is a small amount of parking (4-5 cars) and during my time there, 4 other dogs were in the park.

It's a big dog park, with lots of space to run, and a fence separates the large dog area from the small dog area. Didn't see a water station, but maybe I overlooked it. WCRA is listed as a Lakeside green space with a boat ramp & fishing pier, plus hiking, biking & equestrian trails. I have seen the boat ramp, and seems to be ample parking. There are some trails, but calling them "hiking trails" is a stretch. Walking paths would be more appropriate. The big no swimming sign is strange to me. I'm not from Nebraska, so I'm finding it hard to believe there are so many no swimming areas. Maybe someone can explain this to me. Overall, good to walk around, fish, and I guess boat. Very pretty compared to most of Nebraska, which seems to be deforested.

OK sites, not great staff. Stop over on our way home, we had reservations. Arrived during office…read morehours, but the office was not manned. Owner or manager was at her house and said she won't man the office during check in times because the dust bothers her. She got upset when we asked about check in instructions, spot confirmation, or directions. Told us to look at tiny post it note on inside of front door glass which apparently had instructions for all checking in that day. Site numbers are confusing (some sites have two numbers), roads not marked well. We watched other campers drive round and round trying to figure it all out so we were not the only ones. Utilities worked well, town nearby has a few places to eat and shop. Might be OK if you know your spot and have been there before, but don't expect any assistance from the staff.
