Wow, my last update for Two Horses was in 2015, that's kind of bonkers. I definitely have a lot more grey hair now then I did then, but I had an equally rad time and love my haircut so much. This was my first time visiting their new location over on St Hubert, and though it's a bit hectic to get there past the ongoing construction, the sidewalk is intact and the spot is totally lovely. There is a big bright clean welcoming tattoo area, and then a gorgeous room for haircuts and colour. The space is a great mix of vintage textile art, rocker tattoo design, mid-century modern furniture, vintage taxidermy and other bits of found art highlights, and gorgeous wallpaper and tiling. It really looks great in there and feels comfortable and cool. I had to wait about 20 minutes for my cut, but I was served a coffee with oatmilk which was delicious, and the non-binary friendly relaxed vibes were deeply nice to sink and soak in for a bit. The head massage and wash were wonderful - apparently they have some new chairs for the wash and these were definitely more comfortable than some others I've experienced. I had my ridiculously long wild witch hair cut by the kind and wise Christie, and it was such a pleasure to get to chat with her. Most importantly, I dug her advice for the cut and love how it turned out. It feels healthy and looks like me and I feel like I know how to take care of it without having to add a bunch of work to my life. Big big fan. read more

Update: Got my hair cut by Tristan and another tattoo from Karmen! Have to say I'm hooked on this place! Tristian did an amazing job on my hair, taking his time and again like Karmen-- making me feel very welcomed. He also cut my boyfriends hair (shaved his head) and even with his hair cut--being so simple, took his time to make it look amazing! Also the pricing being very reasonable; 50$ for mine and $11.50 for my boyfriends. All around an amazing time and an amazing job done! Karmen again did an amazing job on my tattoo and I'm so proud to have her work on me! Overall, I don't think I'll be going anywhere else but here for my tattoos or haircuts! read more

Update: oh my gosh!!! I just got a haircut with Jess who's the nicest person! I have really thick and coarse hair and she cut it perfectly with layers and taught me how to rid of the frizziness. I've traveling all around the states getting haircuts but this has definitely been one of my favorites! As for my 3rd tattoo with Erica, perfection as always, will soon come back for a 4th I've gotten my past two tattoos(soon 3!) with Erica Cyr and every time it has been perfect! She's very sweet and genuine and has helped me flow all my ideas/concepts and finalized them into awesomeness!! I've been getting my hair cut and coloured by Isobel for years now and I wouldn't consider seeing anyone else to touch my locks. She's always helpful when it comes to hair advice and life advice too (bonus!). I have yet to see Jessi Preston for a tattoo but according to sources close to me who have visited her, she's an extremely talented traditional tattoo artist. Two Horses is a gorgeous, chill place to be. Jessi has done two of my tattoos over the last 4 years. Not only are they my favorites, they're also the ones I get the most compliments on. Jessi's art rad, and that's enough to be worth going to her, but the experience is also always great. She's professional and welcoming, she works fast and her hand is much lighter than many of the other artists i've been tattooed by, so I've found that it hurts less (which I like), I've never had any trouble with healing or anything. I was itching to do something with my hair - trim, bangs, color, etc., - but I knew I would be traveling for work so I wasn't able to book something in the states. Fast forward 3 weeks later, I'm in Montreal and in search for a hair salon that can not only cover my "dead-in-the-center" intense grey hairs but can maybe guide me to do something different/dramatic. After doing some light research on Yelp (criteria involved good reviews and proximity) I found Two Horses. It was just what I was looking for: urban, hip, fun and out of the ordinary. I don't really get many hair salons in Marin, CA that are both a Hair Salon AND a Tattoo Parlor. I HAD to check it out - I was not disappointed! I was near the area so I decided to look for the place and book an appt in person. They were able to fit me in for the following weekend. On the day of my appt. I showed up 10 min late but Hannah was extremely friendly and patient. She listened to my wants/nice to haves and was very honest about what would/wouldn't work. I went from a fading ombre/bra strap length hair to an A-line/chin length textured bob. I have a ton of hair so it was a long appt. for a root touch up, balayage, and hair cut but time really flew by thanks to all the attention to detail and the open dialogue during the process (along with the random topics of conversation) with Hannah. I never felt rushed and it really was a great overall experience. Next time I'm in town I'll def be coming back! Highly recommend. read more

I'm writing this review from my husbands Yelp account. I would put 5 stars but he says he never does so this is a 4.5! :P I came to Two Horses yesterday to get an ombre dip dye done. I don't usually spend a lot of money on my hair, but I wanted to this time. After some friend asking, this place was recommended, and it did not disappoint. Melanie had a brief consultation with me by email with pics etc until an appointment was booked. I showed up and the vibe was really chilled, excellent music playing, like the Cure and other great indie stuff. Melanie was super nice. She offered me a drink, I took a beer. We spoke before about what could and could not be done to my hair, and Melanie was always fair and not just trying to make money etc like other salons but honest and experienced. And so,we got to work: talking, cutting, beginning the dye. After a couple of hours, we were done, and the result was really marvelous. Ombre dip dyes on other people seem hit or miss but I love the job, and would recommend this place highly, even to hesitant folk. Great place! xxx read more

Amy did a great job with my mani pedi the other day. The atmosphere is nice and intimate, makes a girl feel special, instead of hurried along, like in most nail salons. Amy was very sweet about my chatting her ear off instead of reading a magazine or looking at my phone. When it's just the two of you in a room, it gives the treatment a hangout vibe, which appeals me to over "sitting through an appointment". Oh yeah and, my nails looks great! read more

Christie gave me one of the worst haircuts I have ever had. Even after I showed her a picture. She hacked my hair into an odd triangle shape - I cried as soon as I got home. Will never return. I did receive a call from the owner who was very aplogetic and offered to fix it for free. I opted to go with my old stylist for the fix, but the gesture is well recieved and points to good customer service on their part. read more

I was recommended Two Horses through a friend - it was my first actual salon haircut in about 5 years, so I was a bit anxious showing up to an unknown salon, with a hairdresser I've never met. To get to the space, you must wander up to the 3rd floor of a vaguely sketchy business loft building on Jean-Talon. Do not let this deter you. Upon arrival, I was offered a beer and perused the vintage clothing selection while I waited, and everyone working there was super friendly and total tattoo babes. My hair-dresser was Ashley, who is extremely friendly and charming. She gave me a great cut and made the whole experience very pleasant indeed. I went here to get a hair cut. A guy friend recommended it to me. He told me it was a cool relaxed vibe and for the most part it was. But honestly it seemed more like a playground for the "party girls" who run it rather than a place of business. The girl who cut my hair, Izzy, I believe, dresses licentiously, which may explain why my guy friend likes it so much. The haircut was ok, but there are much classier places to get better haircuts. read more

Love the ambience and the people. Their shop in shop vintage boutique always has cool and interesting stuff. The cold beer during haircuts is something seem more often at barber shops, and I always envied them for it. I find it refreshing to find it at a salon for women. Too bad that haircuts not always work for me. I have coarse hair, not the thin, white hipster type. Perhaps someone a bit more specialized on ethnic hair would be a great addition to the salon. After spending a third summer in Montreal I finally found this salon! Two Horses is easy to get to from my apt in the plateau and close to the Jean Talon market. While convenience is important to me so is the quality of my experience. From the first call to make an appointment I felt comfortable and welcome, my visit and experience at the salon was much the same, comfortable and welcoming. Tristan my stylist took the time to listen to my requests for my hair cut and color during our consultation. He then skillfully styled and colored my hair exactly according to my vision, even surpassing my expectation. During my two visits to the salon I felt completely comfortable and relaxed, not just because of the kindness and comfort given to me but because of the confidence I had come to feel in Tristans work. After reading other reviews I can guess that the other stylist much have similar qualities. In addition to the skill set of the stylist this salon has cool decor and music (including the sounds of buzzing from the tattoo artists at work) giving it that creative vibe that I love about Montreal. I will plan my 2020 summer cut accordingly and plan to return when I return to Montreal next year. read more

I visited Two Horses for the first time this week to get a facial with Amy. The place is gorgeous and the service excellent. I loved the atmosphere in the room, I felt relaxed right away and almost fell asleep on the table. The products used were great, really liked the subtle smells. And last but not least, the price, such a great deal for the quality of the service and you get 15% off on Tuesday and Wednesday. Christie cut my hair and I was thrilled with the results. I didn't know quite what to ask for except that it had been a long time since my last cut, and my ends were fried and I knew that needed to be taken care of, but I still wanted to keep some length, and aside from that I deferred to what she felt would work best.
