It's free, but parking can be a major pain in the butt…read more We drove down from Escondido to see IB's famous Sandcastle competition. We were fortunate to have a parking driveway reserved for us, but the traffic was really bad and people were parking many many blocks away from the beach area. Paid parking lots were even farther away.. Overall this was a fun time, though I suppose if you came here for just for the sandcastles you might be disappointed. This year's theme was "Pirates" and I think they did a good job hiring the right people to entertain guests. Bonus points for not hiring that fake Jack Sparrow that seems to find himself at every event in San Diego. They also had a large kid area for various crafts. Sandcastles - After talking with some of the locals I found out that the professional sandcastle builders no longer come to this event and it's much smaller than previous years ( back when the US Open for Sandcastles was held here). So come with an open mind if you're looking for true master craft sandcastles. Food - Various street vendors and food trucks. I think the best options were the big slices of pizza, and the street tacos sold next door. Tip - If you're just wanting to see sandcastles you might want to come after 4pm.. The festival ends at 5 and people start leaving en masse. Plus you get to see a sunset too. - Imperial Beach doesn't have a lot of beach area between the ocean and where the castles were made. You're going to have to hike a bit to find some empty beach space. That is unless you want to sit yourself by the sandcastles ( Which surprisingly / not surprisingly some people seemed to be okay with castle watchers standing on their beach towels and invading their personal space...

Street parking was tricky as expected, and there were also options for paid lot parking. The festival offered live music, some vendors and food stands/trucks. I've seen more intricate sand castle designs, but it was still fun checking each of them out.

Tacos are good ,all but 1guy worker seemed busy trying to help get orders completed...- this guy was just pretending to work while he ate with "gloved hand" - ewe this is your business not your house, no one wants your germs ! Guy seemed to be somewhat buzzed idk maybe his goofy persona is natural and dont belong making tacos - it was uncomfortable having him be part of preparing my food ... he was drinking and picking/eating meat from a plate with same hand he was using to turning meat and never did he change gloves until I asked the cashier to tell him to change them . what he was doing was unsanitary.! - Just sharing my observations from my visit and I wont be coming back- even though flavor was good it is not my style of tacos . - tortilla is dipped in grease prior to being warmed up. - asada is alright not a fan of this one here - suadero was delicious - tripa tacos was also delicious LIKE wow the best ive tastes minus the grease dipped tortilla. - Adobada was also delicius - Cabeza was also a good one --Cons : they dip all tortillas in oil before warming up, carne asada is just alright and one of the guy who works there eats with his finger (does not use utensils ) while he prepares your food :( . Corn tortillas are not hand made. - No kitchen utensils to grab Radishes and lemons . Sanitation practices for sides and one employee(guy eating) is questionable. Pros: Open late, - mostly all their protein options are tasty. -Salsas are delicious. - protein portion is adequate - price per taco 3.25 - they also have mulitas and quesadillas

"Adobada looks very disappointing"…read more People on TikTok have been really hyping this spot up lately, so I went in expecting it to be one of those "best in San Diego" type places, but honestly that's exactly why you can't always trust food influencers who base everything off one bite and a good angle. First thing I noticed was the parking situation is rough there's basically none, and you can't even risk street parking because it's marked red, so right away it already starts off inconvenient. When we got there, the tables weren't clean, which kind of kills the vibe before you even order, but I will say the carne asada mulita actually surprised me in a good way, it was solid, flavorful, and probably the best thing we tried. They also have a bigger version called the keka that I didn't get, but I could see that being more filling if the mulita is any indication. Customer service was decent, nothing special but not bad either, just kind of there doing their job. Overall though, even with a good item on the menu, it's not enough for me to say this place lives up to the hype TikTok is pushing. In my opinion, in San Diego it's still hard to beat Tacos El Gordo, and I've seen people online try to downplay it saying places like Chula Taco are better, and I just don't think that's accurate from a real first-hand experience standpoint. At the end of the day, TikTok food reviews can be entertaining, but a lot of times it feels like people are just chasing views instead of consistency or credibility, and you really have to try places yourself before believing the hype. The adobada was a negative 5 stars just look at it adobada is not supposed to look like :( #Tacos #SanDiegoFood #TacoReview #FoodReview #StreetTacos #CarneAsada #TacoLovers #FoodTok #EatLocal #TacoLife
