I've taken two of my dogs here and have had excellent service every time …read more EXCEPT FOR ONE ISSUE....I worked at a vet for 10 years and I know what a physical is supposed to involve. Check eyes, ears, mouth, listen to the heart and stomach plus feel their entire bodies for abnormalities. They charge $65 and it says it's for an office visit and physical. When I took my Aussie puppy there I was not pleased that first they don't turn on the exam room lights. The doctor came in with two syringes, jabbed them into her and opened the door for me to leave. He never touched my puppy nor performed any type of physical. He didn't even wear stethoscope. So what am I paying $65 for if I don't even get a physical? I find that very upsetting to charged for something that doesn't happen. I would be 100% satisfied with their hospital if they weren't charging me for something they don't do but state on your receipt that they did.

Since 2016, Alan Toothaker was the veterinarian for our sweet, beautiful golden retriever Sophie…read moreduring the months each year that we have spent in Maine. In November 2024, he examined Sophie and drew labs. He told us, "she's fine," "just adjusting to her medications." Without much change in her symptoms until the last hours, she died 2 weeks later as we were finally taking her to an emergency room. On 2/26/26 the Maine Board of Veterinary Medicine disciplined Dr. Toothaker for poor record-keeping and violating practice standards in his care of Sophie, and separately regarding another complaint that alleged he mistreated animals and staff. See Ellsworth American 3/25/26 [https://bit.ly/EA260325_LocalVetDisciplined]. You can read the details of these two cases -- AND THE 4 PREVIOUS ACTIONS -- on the State of Maine web page for his license [https://bit.ly/ToothakerMaineLicensePage]. This includes for my case the specific consent agreement that Dr. Toothaker chose to sign to avoid going to court (administrative hearing). You will also see there that he was still on probation for previous infractions when he treated Sophie. Beyond these state actions, Dr. Toothaker also paid $145,360 to resolve complaints by the DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency) about his mishandling of controlled substances in 2023 [https://bit.ly/DEA_ToothakerFine]. As a (human) doctor, after Sophie died, I requested from Dr. Toothaker's clinic, her complete medical record, and I was appalled. We had brought Sophie in because she had not been eating well, but the medical note said she was "eating and drinking well," the kind of text one has in a default note template that's supposed to be changed in the real note, but he didn't. The lab results had numerous red flags that Dr. Toothaker ignored. When I presented to another veterinarian (without giving away the subsequent events) the data that Dr. Toothaker had before him at Sophie's last visit, and asked whether going with "she's fine" seemed right, that vet said "I would not choose to ride for a few weeks on 'she's fine.' I think you would be better served to go see an internal medicine specialist." We would certainly have taken her to a specialist -- driven that night to Portland if needed -- in line with the extensive medical care we have gotten for her over her life. Unfortunately, Dr. Toothaker did not suggest taking her to a specialist, so we didn't do it, and now Sophie is dead, 3 days after her 9th birthday. She had a complicated medical history which Dr. Toothaker knew about but ignored. Equally worrisome in a different way, namely, his trustworthiness, after he received my complaint from the Board, he reported that he -- oops! -- had failed to include in the "complete medical record" that he had sent me, more complete medical ("SOAP") notes maintained "in a separate module" of his electronic medical record. This conveniently discovered note contains at least one statement that I know to be false, and many others that are highly implausible. My impression, though unproven, is that he fabricated these notes in response to my complaint. Dr. Toothaker still claims that he did not do anything wrong medically, but the veterinary board thinks he did, and so do I. I noted in my complaint that Dr. Toothaker is friendly and affable, but that does not make up for his being cavalier and irresponsible about the actual medical care of animals. Before letting Dr. Toothaker care for your pet, I highly recommend you read his disciplinary actions and look at the medical notes that he has previously written for your pet. Sophie died quietly on the floor of our vehicle. I didn't get to say goodbye to her.

But that's not the case anymore. I would NEVER bring my dog here again. The owner Tony actually admitted to me at pickup "your dog must have an iron stomach" (I confusingly said no) and he admitted that he allowed my dog to EAT AND CLEAN UP ALL THE KIBBLE FROM THE DOG CRATES AT THE END OF THE DAY!!! mind you I never had Tony feed my dog at any daycare visit. She never ate during playcare. And my dog became aggressively sick in the middle of that night, due to Tony's RIDICULOUS manner, and lack of any responsibility for an animal. If you care about your dog, do NOT trust this place. I should've write this review a while ago. After I confronted him and left he continued to be rude to me in email, stating my dog was a mess and out of control. (Well I bring her to daycare to play, he never stated any such issues. And then started attacking me and saying how terrible of a person I was and how we didn't "click" as people. Wow, I just wanted a nice place for my dog to play. This guy is a FUCKING IDIOT.

Very olds nasty pillows (2 of them have no covers on them (gross) ... tj max is across the street, if you stay here, go get yourself a new (clean) pillow - you'll thank me when you check in and see what they have on those beds. Soft sheets and blankets but unfortunately; nothing makes up for a terrible mattress. It's very thin, no support- feels like it's seen one too many nights. also, Coffee cups are so flimsy and too small to hold anything more then 6oz. I told the owner about the leaky toilet, and the room was not what was advertised. She said she ran out of rooms and it was cheaper, then said, after I had already checked in for two hours and late at night, "you can check out!" About the leaky toilet, she said,"it happens". This is fraudulent advertising luring guests with a cheap price then shoving them in a hole next to a deserted backlot. This needs to be reported to the proper authorities.

The electronics were slightly dated, but the apartment smelled very fresh and overall gave a very homey, rustic vibe. There were two bedrooms (one had a king sized bed and one had two double beds), two bathrooms (one had a jacuzzi), a kitchen, and living room with a dining table. The toilet bowl in one of the bathrooms was stained, but it was a minor matter since everything was clean. This community IS called a resort, and I agree that it is a bit misleading, BUT they do have a pool and game/activity room in the main office. We were still blown away by the comfort and cleanliness of our apartment, and will definitely stay here again when visiting Acadia!

And I liked the amenities such as the large soaking tub and multiple bathrooms/bedrooms. Turns out the place is more than just outdated. It is clear it is managed by a slumlord who hasn't invested in anything since the nineties. Even the mop looked like it was from 1998.i have a suspicion that the place is so dumpy due to it being a timeshare, and the weekend rentals are just some extra money flowing in. Our unit is filthy. When I first arrived, I about gagged over all the long black hairs all over my bathroom floor. And everything feels sticky. We have a toddler who crawls and the kitchen floor feels grimy so it's actually a health hazard for us.and I don't even want to imagine what's in the carpet; the vacuum they have here in the closet is an old Dirt Devil that doesn't even suck up any obvious crumbs...I tried. After 10 minutes of being here, I realized we made a huge mistake. I went out and immediately got Lysol wipes and floor cleaner. And by the way, I realized that you can buy a mop in this town for $12, not sure why they can't invest in a new mop for the unit...gross. I touch no surfaces here without wiping it first. And the kitchen floor is just black no matter how many times I have cleaned it. Which, by the way, I shouldn't have to be doing any of this on vacation in the first place. After cleaning it and TRYING to make it a semi home over the last few days, I thought I would go and have a soak in the only feature that I think is actually kind of cool. And then of course, I should have guess it was too good to be true; there isn't even enough hot water to fill the damn thing. Double SUCKS. I wish I would have read the reviews first before choosing this place.

Waking up in tent one and being able to look out on the water was a great way to start the day. The whole area is nice to walk around, playing board games in the main lodge during a rainy evening is relaxing, and there's several planned activities everyday to participate in if you don't head out to some of the nearby attractions. The staff is extremely welcoming and attentive. The food is pricey but good... I definitely recommend the lavender vanilla chai to start your morning off! One of the biggest positives is the bathroom is inside the glamping tent, so you don't have to sneak outside in the middle of the night and freeze yourself in the unheated "attached" bathroom like I have at a different glamping site. However, I really don't like the pull handle for the shower. Have you ever tried to clean long thick hair with one hand? Yeah, it's a bit challenging. Now I have seen several critiques about the cost of this location. I went in June, so technically at the beginning of the season. Flat out, everything in this region is seasonal and prices rapidly rise in July and even worse in August. I don't know that I would pay for a stargazer tent again (it's a nice idea but I'd rather sit on the tent's porch and look out at the stars.) However, I would definitely stay here again. The vibe is very chill, and watching all the families and their dogs relaxing throughout the campgrounds just felt right.
