A few years back, during a heat wave, Heidi actually bought out the local WalMart of kiddie pools for the dogs! The dogs get indoor playtime in the gym. They get outdoor playtime, too. Heidi believes a tired-from-play dog is quieter and less anxious. How right she is. It is rare that we hear repetitive or deafening barking at this kennel. At other places ,the workers often don ear protection before going back to the cages. Their groomer recently gave our 2 dogs the best clips they've ever had. It's saying something when our dogs literally leap out of the back of my car and RUN into the kennel. (We used to have to drag them into Acadia Woods Kennel....that should have been a sign :-( ) Rather than having an adjustment period when our dogs return home, they are settled and normal: it's like they never left.

We always used to tune into the pet cams when we were traveling to see our baby and verify that cleaning and care were actually taking place. When we picked up our baby at 2pm there was dried food in her bowl and the kennel looked like it was not cleaned. It has been two years since the pet cams have been working and It gives me an uneasy feeling that this is intentional. We are actively looking for a new kennel and highly doubt we will use this kennel again.

Bunny diets are not easy but they followed my hay, pellet, treat, and salad feeding instructions so he didn't have any GI disturbances. Everyone I met was so kind, from the staff to the manager to the owner. They all really obviously care about animals and seem to like their jobs. I don't like to leave my bunny behind and avoid it if possible. But sometimes it's unavoidable and I'll be way less worried doing so in the future, knowing that this kennel is nearby.

They could not hike with us (there are many oak trees around Penobscot Bay), so we took them to Lyndsey for 6 daytime appointments while we went to Acadia and elsewhere. We can't say enough good things about Lyndsey. She is warm and personable. She took a real interest in our dogs and their well-being. She walked them and watched out for them during their stays. She texted us during the day to update us on their condition. She was flexible when we were early or late for drop off and pick up. In short, she had empathy for our dogs and for our vacation plans. Now, Max loves people. But, he is a little persnickety regarding dogs. He is only 45 lbs, but, he's pretty sure he's the toughest guy around. Sometimes? He gets up in the face of a really big dog, and I worry that he will get his butt kicked. We arrived that morning? To several much bigger dogs. I was concerned. The place was clean, and well organized. There was a sofa area, with a big screen tv! Max loves to watch animal channel or cartoons, so this was a big deal! There were bunk beds, tons of toys, and tons of space inside this new looking barn type structure. There appeared to be a grooming area in the back, but I forgot to ask. Out back, there was a fenced in area for play, with other dogs out there messing about. I was gone all day. Halfway through the day, Carolann sent me a text with a pic of Max playing in the yard. She said he was fun, and very sweet, and not picking any fights at all. That was good news! I stayed away, and had my me time for almost 9 hours. When I returned? He was happy, smiling, and yes, worn out. He was not dragging me to leave and get into my car. All that is great stuff! And the price was very reasonable. I will take him back when I return to the area, which I plan to, almost every year.

A dog-friendly, free shuttle will pick you up at the doorstep and take you around Schoodic Point (the prettiest part of Acadia National Park) and drop you back at the Inn after a hike. The backyard is fenced and has several outdoor seating areas where you can play fetch with Fido, sit by the fire, read a book in the hammock, or have a cookout (grill, wood, utensils, etc. provided) in a beautifully candle-lit setting. We also enjoyed playing board games with our 11 year old (they have hundreds!) one rainy night, how wonderful that our dogs could hang out in the room with us--Leisure Lee, especially, appreciated the dog bed provided. There's on site pet-sitting offered for an extra fee. But not with just anyone! Pam and Arnold are pet experts, breeders (pugs), groomers--they know animals inside/out and really spend time with them (long walks on the beach, playtime, feedings, etc.--they treat pets like people). We asked them to sit with our two puppies (bloodhound and boxer-mix--leather- chewing piranhas, really) from 6 am to 9 pm while we went into Bar Harbor for the day and when we returned Azy was in Pam's lap, and Leisure Lee was asleep, listening to music, by the fire--I don't know of any conventional hotel that offers pet-owners such peace of mind via this service. The breakfast--wow! Fresh fruit, yogurt, granola bars, organic oatmeal, bagels, cream cheese, wheat germ--you can eat healthy if you wish, but they also have pop tarts, kid-cereals, chocolate muffins, fancy creamers for coffee, all sorts of juices, unlimited pet treats and bottled waters. A family on a budget, we loved that we were able to place our own groceries, too, on the fridge shelf provided. That said, Three Sisters Café, down the road a ways, offered great deals on good food when we ate out, and the food stand in front of The Fisherman's Inn had inexpensive lobster rolls to die for. While there, we met an Italian couple, a family from Maine, and a retired librarian--all quiet, conscientious, interesting folks we loved meeting. But Pam and Arnold are the warm, whip-smart people (add to their pet-knowledge incomparable knowledge of fun things to do in the area) that really make the place into a one-of-a-kind, exceptional home away from home--they go way out of their way to make sure their guests are cared for, comfortable, and happy. When we asked for soap and shampoo, we were told that they were not included. We also were told that there would be no breakfast or even coffee. We were there offseason, so nothing else was open, so we just stayed in that terrible, claustrophobic, freezing cold room with no water.
