Always takes care of our Sphinx when we travel but recently we have noticed a change in staff and the level of professionalism. The kennel seems to be run by teens with little experience and not much knowledge of pet care. We always used to tune into the pet cams when we were traveling to see our baby and verify that cleaning and care were actually taking place. When we picked up our baby at 2pm there was dried food in her bowl and the kennel looked like it was not cleaned. It has been two years since the pet cams have been working and It gives me an uneasy feeling that this is intentional. We are actively looking for a new kennel and highly doubt we will use this kennel again. read more

I left my bunny here for 9 days. Bunnies are very sensitive and can get sick and die quickly if stressed. He came back healthy with no issues. They worked with me to find the optimal location for him in the kennel where he wouldn't have to see dogs and cats. They spent time with him every day and sent me frequent pictures and updates. Bunny diets are not easy but they followed my hay, pellet, treat, and salad feeding instructions so he didn't have any GI disturbances. Everyone I met was so kind, from the staff to the manager to the owner. They all really obviously care about animals and seem to like their jobs. I don't like to leave my bunny behind and avoid it if possible. But sometimes it's unavoidable and I'll be way less worried doing so in the future, knowing that this kennel is nearby. read more

We have been coming here for a while. Our groomer is a nice person but when it comes to being responsible that is another thing. We are asked to have our dogs at the kennel by 8:00 AM and they are never done by noon. Sometimes we are waiting till 3:00 PM or later before they are done. One day she had our dogs all day and didn't want to do anymore dogs so we received a call stating she was rescheduling them. Our babies were there in a cage all day. Today I was told at 11:00 AM that our dogs could not get done by noon, because a sedated dog was coming in at noon and needed to be done. I was already out so I stopped by at 12:40 since this other dog was coming at 12:00 PM and the groomer wasn't even there. She never returned until 1:38 PM. Plus I was told the dogs would not be in a cage but would be at the counter dog area. They were in a cage. read more

Highly recommend! We left our terrier mix for 3 weeks while out of the country. We had visited many kennels in the area and settled on Bear Brook and we are so happy we did. Our little guy came home happy, healthy, and NOT stressed from the long stay. We can attribute this to the kind care he received and the walks he went on. Booked my dog a vp room. They put her in gen pop. When i picked her up, she was covered in piss. Was suppose to get a bath while there. Staff didnt want to be there and cared more about there phones than their jobs. Aka my dog. If u care even a little for ur pet, look elsewhere read more

Scheduled a grooming visit - person who answered the phone was less than friendly. Showed up the following week for the grooming visit only to be informed that it had been cancelled due to the groomer's departure. No call, nothing. I had planned to see what other services they might offer we could use but not now, we won't be back. Poor customer service at all levels. read more

Excellent Cat Grooming!! As a travel nurse I am constantly on the lookout for local services and my Himalayan kitty needs his own. I usually comb him out myself, but sometimes I just let it get away from me, and I need a pro. I frequently use Petco grooming services and have been mostly satisfied with the results but when I called Petco in Bangor I was told that they no longer do cat grooming. I asked for local references and was given the name of bear brook kennel's so I called them and made an appointment. Their schedule of dropping pets off in the morning and picking them up in the evening probably works quite well for folks who are on a day schedule, but I am a night shift nurse so it was a challenge for me. I dropped the kitty off yesterday morning and picked him up in the afternoon right on schedule. The staff was friendly and professional, the setting was warm and clean, and the kitty was beautiful! I don't know what they did, but this was the best comb out he has ever had! His Soft Paws were applied as requested and no unwanted scent was used - yes, someone actually sprayed him with a sickly-sweet spray at his vet once, ick. I can't speak to their other services, but if you have a long-haired cat, Bear Brook gets my enthusiastic vote for services in the Bangor area. read more

I took my 2 dogs to Bear Brook Kennel this past weekend. 3 days. My oldest had been here for daycare when she was younger so I was feeling ok about leaving them here for a weekend. Dropped them off early afternoon, they were happy to go in the building, all good. Everything had been labeled clearly multiple times so there would be no confusion. I even verbally gave them instructions, which they wrote down, for one supplement I left with them for my oldest. 3 hours later after I had left them, I received a call asking which dog the hip and joint supplement was for. Remember, the older dogs name (first and last) was on the cover AND the side of this container so there would be no doubt as to which dog it was for. But I calmly told them again which one. ('Dog name', the 11 year old lab, not the 1 year old pit). Fast forward to pick up day... they are only open for 2 hours on Sunday, so I had to wait until late afternoon to pick them up. There was someone in front of us in the waiting room and one of the girls standing to the side asked who we were there for. She brought out our pit puppy and she (puppy) was just pulling the girl as hard as she could to the door to get out... We put her collar and leash on and the girl went back to get our lab dog who was also trying to get outside. She also had their blanket in her hand. As soon as she walked in the room, all we could smell was piss. I thought it was the dogs, but as soon as she handed the blanket to my fiance we quickly learned it was mostly the blanket. It was COVERED in piss. The room smelled disgusting. He gave it back to her and she offered to wash it. No thanks, didn't want to spend more time there waiting for them to wash a piss soaked blanket. We had them throw it away. My fiance's hands were wet from the blanket so they let him wash them. They offered to wash our dogs, but with the way my dogs were acting, I didn't want them near them. My fiance took the dogs outside while I paid the bill. Both dogs immediately peed and pooped as soon as they got out. I heard the final charges and thought they were extremely high. The girl asked if I wanted a breakdown of the charges.. Yes please. Ok everything was fine except a charge for a rabies shot that neither dog needed and someone forgot to take off the bill. Had I not asked, I would have been overcharged for the stay. When we arrived home, I noticed my older one had scratches on her nose. They first said they didn't know, but then changed their story to it being the chain link fence probably. My older one wasn't to have play time with other dogs because she has been attacked and I chose for her to just have human play time. The scratches didn't line up with a chain link fence. I am not a difficult person, I am not hard to please. I DO expect my dogs to be taken care of when I am paying you to do so and you have a business that is actually a boarding facility. I am very unhappy with how everything went about this weekend with the care of my dogs. I understand boarding can be stressful for dogs. It is not new for mine. We have boarded them for a week before (in a different state) and neither of them were bolting for the door when we picked them up. They greeted us and were not trying to get out. I relayed my concerns to the facility (day of pickup staff, and manager) The owner was unavailable. The staff said for the day they are only open for 2 hours, someone is in at 7am to let dogs out and clean kennels inside and out. Then play time happens, staff leaves around noon and comes back at 3. Gates are left open for dogs to go inside and out while nobody is there. Then someone is there from 3 to 7pm. They only have grass time for 20 mins a day if we pay extra for that. Otherwise they only have cement to go to the bathroom on outside. The manager claimed that our dogs were in excellent hands and cared for very well. My dogs behavior and the pee soaked blanket tell a different story. We will NEVER be going back there again. read more

The owner is a creep, the staff are disorganized and they are abusive towards the dogs. They had me leave my 8 week old puppy in a cage right across from a big lab who began to bark at her nonstop. I told the owner that she looks scared and he said "no she is just concerned." CONCERNED???? She was shivering in fear and when we left this god forsaken hell for dogs she hid under my car because I went back to rescue her. I mean out of all the cages they wanted me to put her right across from the large dog barking at her, she only weighs 16 pounds and is a pup. I also should mention I was told to get there at 7 to give my puppy some time to get used to being there. When I arrived the owner said "oh no we don't open till 8." Then he chased me down in the parking lot and was like "well I guess we can take her now cause we accept dogs in at 7." When I came back out with my dog from rescuing her the owner just disappeared. He was no where to be found and didn't bother to check in on my puppy or me. He also introduced himself as Dr. BLAH BLAH and "I'm the owner here." Never asked for my name or my pups names just goes to show you how humble he is. read more

We scheduled an appointment to have our cat groomed. She's a sweet, but anxious girl, so we try to keep trips to a minimum. When we arrived to drop her off for her appointment, they informed us that their groomers don't usually work on Thursday, and there was no way for them to keep the appointment. No apology, no offer to figure it out. We will never bring our pets here again. read more

I brought my dog for her second stay over labor day weekend. I was asked if my dog should be walked or have play time. Well of course she should! My expectation would be to have her cared for the way she would be at home. You would think $24 per day would cover this play time/ walks, etc. I returned to find I had an $18 charge for "play sessions". I called today and spoke with Jessica who told me the charge was for my dog to be let out of the kennel to play with other dogs for 20- 30 minutes each day. This is so unacceptable! So when my dog stayed for 3 days in June she had no play time? My dog will not be returning! Playtime should occur several times per day as it would at our home. Leaving her in a kennel for 24 hours is abusive! I should also add that the 4 dog-safe toys that I brought in for her were never removed from the bag I put them in and were left in a tote box up by the front door! read more

This is the best pet boarding EVER!!! This place was highly recommended to us when our other boarding place closed. We (my husband and I) dropped in to check out this place in October, 2010 for our three dogs and found everyone and everything to be AAA+. What a very happy place this is/was. They graciously gave us a tour and explained the process and we made an appointment right there for December They told us to call, email, etc. at any time if we had any concerns while we were away and would contact us immediately if there was a problem. How wonderful it was to go away and not worry - and know our beloved pets are/were so very well taken care of with the best people. . Our one dog, a cocker spaniel, has seizures and must take medication at specific hours of the day/night and, needless to say, the staff was more than willing to accommodate our wishes. We utilized other boarding places in the past but none cannot compare. The staff are just outstanding, professional, courteous and KIND. The staff even take their animals there on a daily basis. So, when the owners of Bear Brook Kennels allow their personnel to bring their animals to "work", you KNOW they are good and decent people. A note of caution when leaving your furry family members here. i entrusted this facility to take care of my two dogs while on vacation. i returned to both dogs having injuries, that i was never informed of. one of them is still on weekly treatments and vet visits (8 weeks now). the lack of professionalism and responsibility is disheartening. read more
