As a PsyD and clinical psychologist, I have referred virtually every patient in recovery with psychiatric needs exclusively to Kindred Recovery since meeting him nearly two years ago, and will continue to do so without hesitation. In Eastern Kentucky, where quality psychiatric care for people in recovery is critically scarce, Kindred Recovery functions as something genuinely rare: a gold-standard practice that is also deeply human. That his practice serves primarily Medicaid patients makes this all the more remarkable--this level of care is typically the exclusive province of those with means, and Dr. Kindred has chosen to make it available to those who need it most. He does not run the 15-minute, revolving-door appointments that have come to define so much of modern psychiatry. He spends as much time as each patient needs, remembers details from previous visits, and follows up on them--not as a technique, but as a natural expression of authentic investment. I have seen him come in on closed days, and even on holidays, to ensure a patient in urgent need could be seen and receive the medication sustaining their recovery. For a population this vulnerable, that kind of care is not incidental--it can be lifesaving. His clinical approach is equally rigorous. He bases prescribing decisions on empirical evidence and his own carefully tracked clinical experience--not pharmaceutical incentives--and he takes time to explain the reasoning behind every recommendation: how a medication works, what the research supports, and what discontinuation would biochemically mean. This transparency is clinically significant; informed patients adhere to treatment. It also communicates respect. Finally, Dr. Kindred's integrity is not performed. The clinic was a one stop shop for my injury. They had X-ray onsite. It took less than an hour for me to be seen by a nurse practitioner, X-rayed, and put into a cast.
