OK - the big day went great and that's all that matters! I had to have an extra set of alterations because the first set was stitched incorrectly (not poor quality, just wrong type of stitch for the desired result) so that had to be ripped out and re-done. Staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. They also managed to squeeze one of my bridesmaids in for a quick, same day alteration which was super appreciated. I needed to get measurements for a bridesmaid dress. I was looking for a place close to my job. When I called, I was able to make a same day appointment (actually an appointment for about 30 mins after my call). The gentleman who answered provided directions, but it can be difficult to find if you're unfamiliar with the area. I was in and out within 5 minutes. Though I hope I was a pretty low-maintenance, non-"bridezilla", bride, I definitely cut it close with alterations for my wedding gown. It was a BHLDN gown with lots of beading and lace patches on tulle. I got it online secondhand and miraculously it fit nearly perfectly. The biggest need for altering was the length of the dress so that's the initial reason we needed a tailor. Arrie was so kind and extremely helpful over the phone. In person, she made me feel very comfortable during the fittings and seemed genuinely interested in hearing about my wedding. She got the length figured out and suggested we could take in the sides a bit and I'm so glad she mentioned that. It really made the dress fit perfectly! Besides the general alteration routine, I cut it close by giving her the dress about two weeks before the wedding (oops). I do not recommend doing that, purely for their sakes and as a common courtesy in this line of business. However, Arrie handled it very well and I am so appreciative of her kindness and BEAUTIFUL work making my dress perfect. I will recommend Twelve Tailoring immediately if anyone I know needs alterations! Absolutely amazing work. I brought in a tuxedo to have tailored for a wedding in 2 days. I was hesitant to use a new tailor; especially on a vintage item; but Arrie is not only extremely knowledgeable, but one of the most polite and professional people in town. In the end, she suggested alterations I didn't notice I needed, and knocked everything out right on time; without cutting corners or taking shortcuts, despite the time crunch. Arrie was great to work with for my wedding dress. I only needed a hem and she was hesitant when I told her I wanted to hike it a bit higher than a normal hem, but I was so happy with our work. I also had Arrie sew in a bra for my dress so I had some support. I just brought in a bra and let her put it in however she needed to. Totally worthy bra sacrifice. The only downside was that Arrie tacked on a sash to my dress and added some embellishments. The tacks broke on my wedding day and the embellishment started coming off. We were able to hot glue everything back together (because we didn't have a sewing kit on hand), but it definitely was almost a crisis. read more

I brought in a bridesmaid dress that needed several different alterations- the bust had to be taken in, it had to be hemmed and straps had to be added. I got a very resonable quote via Yelp and when I went in, the price they gave matched my online quote. For comparison it was just over half what a place downtown wanted for the same job. I walked in without an appointment and still the whole process was quick, smooth and the service was very friendly. The girl who pinned my dress during my initial visit even suggested ways I might alter the dress in the future to make it more casual since I mentioned don't have any need for a formal floor length gown after the wedding. Twelve Tailoring got the dress back to me in two weeks (during the beginning of wedding and prom season) and it fit perfectly. I was 100% happy with the alterations and the service was great. I needed to find a tailor to get a bridesmaids dress altered and hemmed. Twelve tailoring was the only place near me that was available. I got an appointment on Tuesday to have them size me into my gown with 4 inches taken off the bottom. I needed the dress done by the next Thursday since I was flying home. They were able to get all the alterations done in the 9 days I had in the middle of prom season. The alterations fit perfectly and the hem worked well with my heels. A little sad that the alterations cost more than the dress it's self ($90 versus $79 for the dress), but it's for a wedding and I can't change the body style to fit me exactly. My only complaint was that I was told it would be ready by 7 pm the day before I flew out and if it was done earlier they would call me. When I called at 430 on the last day I had to pick it up they said it was already done. If it had been done earlier I could have picked it up my way home from work (or a day earlier to make sure it fit and could have done any last minute alterations) and not had to make a special trip to pick it up in the evening. read more

I brought in a few dress pants to be hemmed, and a suit jacket to be taken in at the waist. For the jacket, Arrie suggested taking in the sleeves a bit, too, to create a more proportional shape. Friendly, fast, reasonable pricing, and knowledgeable! I procrastinated getting my bridesmaid dress altered (dress was snug at the waist and the open back could not close; being short 3 or 4 inches). I walked in to Twelve Tailoring and the owner, Arrie, was able to find some extra fabric in the seams and do it flawlessly! She even suggested putting a clasp on the dress which was awesome because the other bridesmaids had issues with theirs popping open while mine held all night. Just to start Arrie from the moment I walked in the door was a lovely woman. She was so welcoming and made me feel very comfortable. I'm a strong supporter of Black owned businesses and I support our businesses 100% because I am a black own business owner. I do not and cannot in good conscience recommend this business. I took a designer suit for alteration paid $90 in advance and my suit was not altered correctly after an initial fitting and when I went to pick it up on March 1, 2018... fitted again it was still not done correctly. Pointed out to Mrs. Arrie all the areas that needed to be adjusted and wasn't done correctly. After I said that I had sewn for years but I just didn't have the time to do it was why I brought it to Twelve Tailoring to have it done....She said she was working on it when I came. Well, if the pick up date is March 1 and you were paid in advance....you shouldn't be working on it when I come to pick it up. When I came out from changing she was sitting at the sewing machine and sent her husband to tell me she would fix the suit and call me when it was ready. My pick up date was March 1 and this conversation was taking place on March 1. Her husband called me that evening to tell me the suit was ready........I picked it up the next day....jacket still to big lining messed up....skirt stitcbed down both sides....lining not adjusted......top never touched........out of $90 and designer suit still not altered correctly......instead of messing up people stuff it's too easy to say "I can't do it". read more

I'm writing this review based off of my experience thus far with this establishment, albeit I haven't received the finished services yet, i am more than confident my follow up review will also have five stars. It's hidden in a small building right off of Dorchester, so you'll really have to look for it, but the inside was quaint, clean, and simple. The owner was exceptionally knowledgeable, patient, and sweet. Even more exceptional were the prices. Where most places seem to charge 20$ per garment for a simple stitch, this place is altering 3 of my favorite dresses, shortening, redarting, reinforcing straps, and putting in bra cups for 50$!!!! She also said they can be done by Thursday, of this week, And it's Monday! That's amazing. Last place I went said 2 weeks, and when I went back to get the 3 alterations, they were still not done and I had to wait another week, and they still charged almost 100, even AFTER applying a discount for being late. Meh. I'm really excited about this place and the final results. You can tell this woman knows what she's doing! read more
