The service, or lack of it, that I received in the St Albans store was unacceptable. Here's why:
We originally booked our suits with a really lovely lady and paid our 50% deposit. That's were the good part ended. We were hiring six suits in total. The deposit was to cover the grooms, an usher and the brother of the brides suit. It was agreed that the remaining two ushers and the best man would pay for their suits when they came in to get measured. As we got near the date we tried to make an appointment to get the guys all measured. I rang up and was told, we don't do measurements at the weekend but we're open late on a Thursday. 6pm is NOT late, especially as none of them live or work in St Albans. We were told that if any of them could pop in during the week they didn't need an appointment they could just drop in. One of our ushers just happened to be in the area for work so popped into the shop on his lunch break. He was told he couldn't be measured as he didn't have an appointment! We finally managed to get an appointment on a Saturday after much arguing on the phone but were told only one or absolute maximum two people could be measured as they didn't want to risk mixing up the measurements which is not at all re-assuring. We arrived on time for our appointment and were asked by one of the young assistants if we had an appointment so we gave her the name. We were then left to stand there for 1 hr and 15 mins completely ignored. No acknowledgement at all. The shop then closed and we were still there! The lady looked quite shocked and said, 'did you have an appointment?' in a very exasperated tone as if we were in the way. We finally the managed to get the groom and usher measured. I spoke to the lady measuring them a couple of times and she completely blanked me it was as if I was invisible. We were then also forced to pay the entire balance as apparently the policy had changed so with no warning at all we had to put a few hundred pounds on our card.
We then had to try to get each of the other men to an appointment, one at a time. I checked the sheet at one of the appointments only to discover the grooms measurements had been written down wrong. Each time we re-visited the shop the service was bad. We were left standing around for ages, spoken to rudely and on some occasions I was again completely ignored.
Finally the week of our wedding came and I went to pick up the suits. I explained to the assistant that the Best Man was unable to make it as he was training in the army and had just discovered he wouldn't be able to get back in time for the wedding. I asked if it was possible to get any kind of refund for him as we wouldn't be using the suit at all and it wouldn't therefore need dry cleaning etc. I was told that the manager was on annual leave but she would ring me on Tuesday when she was back in. I still haven't received a phone call two months later!
I got the suits home only to discover one of the ushers suits was far too small, we had three wrong waistcoats and the grooms and one other waistcoat had grubby marks on them. Obviously I was not at all happy. I had to take the suits back to the shop and try to get the correct sizes and waistcoats, plus replacements for the grubby ones. The assistants in the shop that day were apologetic after I explained all the problems we'd had and eventually managed to find the correct waistcoats and suit for the usher.
The morning of the wedding, my now husband put on his suit only to discover that the replacement waistcoat he'd been given was the wrong size, he'd been given the smaller size he'd originally been measured at months ago that we'd highlighted and got the correct size written down instead. Of all the suite to mess up the grooms is the most important.
I sent this complaint to the store and they accused me of owing them money still and blamed me for all of their mistakes! I sent them the receipt to prove we'd paid for everything and unsurprisingly I still haven't received an apology or even an acknowledgement.
Absolutely appalling place, unless you've got time and money to waste I definitely wouldn't recommend it!
Also, I notice the only three good reviews on here were left on the same day, coincidence? read more
