My daughter needed a 2 point bump on her ACT. After trying other online resources (many well known), I signed her up for the monthly subscription program (which gave us the first month free), and after two months of using the online course, she managed a much larger increase than either of us expected!!! Not only was the site extremely helpful and engaging, but the customer service was absolutely outstanding! Every time I sent an email with questions, I received a a prompt, honest, and friendly response. We even got periodic invitations to free online events. Once my daughter attained the increase in her score, it was very easy to go to their website and cancel the subscription. I've heard horror stories about trying to cancel month to month agreements with companies who have your credit card info! This cancellation was a seamless one click! I first encountered Tutor Ted at a talk at Brentwood School when my daughters were in middle school. I was struck by his counterintuitive approach to test prep - it had never occurred to me that test prep could be, well, fun. Or that testing could be a vocation, that someone could devote his formidable intellect and Princeton degree to perfecting test taking, developing flash cards and even a timer watch. Since we're not on the Westside, I found a nearby tutor for my older daughter through Wyzant who was smart and amiable enough. But test prep is not his mission in life (he's an aspiring actor, and you can see him in the movie "Learning to Drive"). After disappointing results on her first real SAT, we had to change course. She went through the winter boot camp, and enjoyed the experience. Ironically, she did much better on the ACT than SAT, but what Tutor Ted did was to break down the sections into manageable chunks, and empower her to develop and perfect her own strategy. She is now on her way to Middlebury (had to put in a plug for NESCAC schools). Overwhelmed by the tons of test prep books lying around the house and scary anecdotes about factory-like Korean test prep centers, my younger daughter was too demoralized to chart a course of study on her own. Plus, we were confused about which test to focus on, as nobody really has a handle on the new SAT. Ted remembered my older daughter and thoughtfully laid out a plan for the younger one. She just finished the ACT/New SAT hybrid boot camp and emerged confident, even excited. As a parent, I had access to her scores, and got real feedback. Test prep is an unfortunate reality in today's insanely competitive college admissions world. Our experience over the last couple of years was eye-opening. Tutor Ted is amazing. We have used three different tutors and all of them are fantastic! From the first practice ACT, my son's score went up 5 points! My other children used a different tutoring company and it took them multiple times to raise their scores by that much. I am writing as a student who took their weeklong "boot camp" for the ACT and I have nothing but praise for them. I had previously studied for the ACT using different large name textbooks such as the Princeton Review and Kaplan and was not satisfied with my score. While there, I felt that I was learning some surprisingly useful skills I was not learning anywhere else. And even though I was learning essential skills, the course did not assign a painstakingly large amount of homework. The course had 3 different tutors to teach different sections of the test. I thought all tutors were excellent and clearly walked me through the tips and tricks of the test. By the end of the week, I felt confident on all sections of the test. Personally, I am strong in math and science and did not worry too much on those sections. Tutor Ted helped me raise my official English and reading comprehension scores past what I thought I was even capable. However, I was most blown away by my writing score. That score (on the 36 point score) went up by roughly 7-9 points on my official score. I attribute most of the increase to the program. Overall, I am especially thankful to the Tutor Ted staff and would highly recommend them to anyone looking for such a program. read more

This is a long overdue review of Tutor Ted. I want to start by reviewing Uma who is a VP with Tutor Ted and helps people when they call in inquiring about their services. She is simply amazing. Over the course of six months we thought about buying a tutorial package, doing a boot camp or just buying the Tutor Ted book and although we ended up only buying the Tutor Ted book, Uma was patient, caring and helpful throughout the process. She is friendly, positive and easy going. We can only imagine that if we had met the tutors from the company they would have that same amazing demeanor. Our daughter decided to try the ACT using only the Tutor Ted book as a guide with the knowledge that we would get her a tutor if after receiving the results of that test, she wanted to improve her score. She ended up with such a high score that we didn't even end up needing Tutor Ted for actual tutoring. The book did the trick. We are really impressed with the book, the employees and the company. We hired Tutor Ted several times for both my Niece and my Godson to study for their SAT's. Needless to say, my godson is going into his Senior year at Cornell. He is a Scholar, Dean's List student and has received straight A's all 3 years of school so far! My niece is about to begin her Freshman year at Michigan University. My daughter wanted only a small amount of tutoring and Tutor Ted was an excellent fit. Her goal was to increase her overall score and she was able to accomplish that in just four sessions (the smallest package). Tutor Ted did an excellent job of pairing her with Carly, who was a very good fit. She encouraged and supported my daughter through the tutoring sessions but did not add any undue​ stress or anxiety to the situation. The company​ stayed in touch with me throughout the process. I was incredibly happy with this tutoring service and have recommended it to many, many people. I have twins with very different test-taking abilities and Ted customized a plan for each of them. One boy is good at taking tests and needed to raise his already high practice ACT score while simultaneously prepping for the SAT Math 2 subject test. Ted wanted to tutor him himself which was more expensive per hour but a very effective use of time - since they did both things at once. They met for just four 90 minute sessions resulting in a 35 ACT score a perfect 800 on the subject test. My other son dislikes taking standardized tests and had practice ACT scores around 27 or 28. He worked with a regular (but very nice and professional) tutor at the office (not Ted). In the end, he also scored a 35 on the real test! I was very impressed with the warm, responsive staff and genuine care at the office. We felt egaged enough that 10 months later I emailed Ted personally to let him know where the boys got into college! read more

Tutor Ted is the best! My son also said Tutor Ted is the smartest and best teacher and wishes he could teach all of his classes (my son went to one of the top prep schools in town). My son prepped for the ACT and Ted taught him the material he didn't know along with many tips and tricks. He made it fun and they once competed against each other after Ted showed him how well he could score on the Reading Comprehension by just looking at the questions without ever reading the passage. (I think Ted has a video online where he demonstrates this.) My son improved dramatically and ended up scoring a 35 on the ACT. When he took the PSAT at school, he didn't prep for it but due to the ACT prep he had done with Ted, my son ended up scoring well enough to become a National Merit Finalist. He now attends USC where they award half off tuition for four years for all National Merit Finalists that get accepted. For him, going to Tutor Ted literally paid off. My daughter is now working with Ted to prep for the ACT and she also has seen dramatic improvement on her practice tests. I highly recommend Tutor Ted. read more
