My son began Kumon the summer prior to entering kindergarten and he was fully reading at the start of kindergarten and I have noticed that his spelling is very strong as a result of the Kumon method of learning word blends. My daughter absolutely loves math because I think Kumon has given her great confidence in her math capabilities and she often tells me she likes Kumon because she already knows how to do the math that is being taught in her classroom. It's a cycle - because she feels good at math and likes being ahead of the curve, she enjoys math more. Kerri O'Brien runs the center and is fantastic. She knows her students and is very on top of each student and what level they are at. She is available to meet anytime I have questions and she responds quickly to emails. The center is organized and run like a well-oiled machine. It's a calm environment for kids - not stressful at all. I should also mention that Kumon is great during the summer because it keeps your children from having the "summer slip" because they are doing their daily packets of work and keeping on top of their academic skills. I have been very pleased with my Kumon experience. I was hesitant to go down the Kumon road, but when I took my kids to be evaluated, they begged me to do it and have enjoyed it ever since. If ever there is a time when the packets of work are taking too long, I just asked Kerri to give less pages to my kids and that solves any problems of it ever feeling overwhelming to them.
