Sylvan is that place, exactly what and where my kids need to be. Danny (aka Mr.Danny as my kids call him) has truly been a blessing. I was at a loss trying to find a place. I told myself this is the last place I'm going to try and it should have been the first place I tried. Danny was kind, helpful, and most importantly UNDERSTANDING!! He made the process quick and easy, before I knew it my kids were signed up and ready to. If you go to Sylvan ask for him! I can't praise him enough!! Thank you Mr.Danny, your knowledge is incredible and my kids are loving it!!

I give Bob my highest recommendation for anyone dedicated to reaching his/her highest possible…read morescore on the GMAT. He is competent, patient, and teaches everything needed to excel in the quantitative section in a methodical manner. My GMAT score is a testament to Bob's instruction. I began the process of studying in Feb 2017 and scored a 480 on my first practice test after being out of college for 6 years. I wasted my money on a Princeton review course and I wasted my time trying to master the tricks and gimmicks in the course. While it's true these methods will help improve one's score, I found that despite my greatest efforts I couldn't crack the 620 mark on any of the practice tests. I started working with Bob in May 2017. I scored a 740 in late Jun 2017 because Bob made me smarter (it's really that simple)- letting go of the Princeton review and working with Bob turned out to be one of the best decisions I made with regards to my future. If you choose to work with Bob, I recommend 2-3 days per week. Be humble and let him teach you everything you need in order to excel in the Quant section. Most importantly, spend time everyday practicing and reviewing the concepts visited in each class. I didn't use him for Verbal, but I imagine he applies the same structure to his verbal sessions.

My experience with Bob was less than ideal. Although Bob is very knowledgeable about the GMAT…read moretopics, he failed to understand my individual needs. The private tutoring with Bob was a supplement to my already extensive GMAT practice. I had been studying for a few months prior to my initial meeting with Bob. I came to him with specific problem areas and with only 6 weeks until my exam, asked that we focus our time accordingly. He did not adhere to my request. Additionally, he would say things like "wow I'm surprised you got that one correct" or (4 days before my exam) "you're taking a practice exam on Monday right? Not the real exam. YOU ARE NOT READY." For someone who is hired to be an educator, the aforementioned quotes are obviously off putting. During the time I did spend with Bob, he was constantly answering texts & phone calls. His phone was on ringer and would go off 10-15 times during a 2 hour period. His attention was NOT undivided. Good luck to all those studying. UPDATE 9/16 - Although Bob and I did not align well, he did make amends by offering financial compensation for the time spent, as well as other resources that may be useful to me in my studies.

This learning center, unfortunately, doesn't have a vested interest in their students' successes…read more They will tell you there are individual learning plans created at initiation, but truly, the individual plans are only completed at the expected end. A mechanism to encourage you to sign up for more tutoring. It's really unfortunate that students are not receiving what they need for academic achievement. This learning center is likely to blame the student for not conforming to their standard learning than ensure they're enriching the learning of the student. Individual learning plans is a fallacy. This was a colossal waste of my daughter's time and my money. Shame on you.

I should have read the yelp reviews before scheduling an appointment for my granddaughter here…read more They require testing which costs over $200. Of course, this testing is not helping your child, only assessing where they are. They refused to have the consult with just me. They require multiple parents or "support" parties to attend the consultation where they review the results and make recommendations for their tutoring. It sounds like this is because they need more financial backing for their outrageous pricing. When I asked what single parents do, they said they are required to have a grandparent, aunt or uncle on the consult. The consult is 1.5 hours long. When I asked for my testing to be refunded since they couldn't help me, they refused. They also didn't explain that they have a 2 hour 2x week minimum until after my granddaughter was already testing and I had paid. So at the very minimum it would cost 220 weekly for tutoring. But sounds like they pressure you for even more. She only needed help in math but they required she test in everything. Beware! This is a total money scheme in the name sake of you caring for your child's education.

I'm writing this to make other parents aware of a frustrating experience we had with Varsity…read moreTutors. We were looking for a very specific SAT tutor for our daughter and Varsity Tutors led us to believe that they had that tutor in their network. So we signed up for a package of 16 hours per month at a cost of $989.10. However, the tutor they assigned was not the tutor we were searching for, and unfortunately the person assigned was not qualified--our daughter actually had to correct him during the session. After using only one hour, we contacted Varsity Tutors to request a refund for the remaining 15 unused hours. That's when we were told that their "Buyer's Remorse" period had expired. This was the first time we heard this policy existed. At no point during enrollment did anyone mention a 24-hour buyer's remorse window. We even offered a compromise: They could keep 50% of the payment, even though we used just one hour out of sixteen. They still said no. Parents deserve transparency when choosing support for their children's education. Unfortunately, Varsity Tutors relies on unclear advertising, assigns suboptimal tutors, and enforces refund policies they never disclose. Buyer Beware.

He completed his last class in April, yet we were charged again in May despite receiving no services. When I contacted them, they claimed it was a membership fee and refused a refund--even though this fee was never disclosed upfront. To make matters worse, one month they charged me $50 more than usual, which makes no sense if it's a flat "membership" fee. The tutor assigned to my son frequently canceled or rescheduled, which made it hard to maintain any consistent progress. This company has been unprofessional, misleading, and unreliable. If you're looking for a transparent, quality tutoring service, I strongly recommend going elsewhere.
