Tucson Hills Winery is one of the best winery experiences I've had in a long time. Chase and Carter made the entire visit stand out from the moment we walked in. They were welcoming, knowledgeable about every wine on the menu, and made the tasting feel relaxed and fun. They took the time to walk us through the different flights, recommended great pairings, and genuinely cared about making sure everyone was enjoying themselves. You can tell they take pride in their work and in the winery. The atmosphere here is calm and comfortable, perfect for hanging out with friends or just unwinding. The wine itself was excellent, but the service from Chase and Carter is what truly made the experience memorable. Traveling again through Effingham, IL. We will stop again at the Winery for an overnight stay in our Coach. This late in the season, the fields have been plowed. Great wine selection and food menu is simple and tasty. It's a beautiful building with a very comfy decor inside. The outside patio is great since weather is cool but nice. We spent a pleasant Sunday evening here. We might have sipped inside, but the patio and gazebo outside were more appealing. A contradiction left me confused about the sourcing and production of the wine. The website states, "All of the wines are tastefully crafted and bottled in the wine cellar." But the bottle label of my favorite, Quilt's "Threadcount Cabernet," tells me it's vinted and bottled in Rutherford, CA. Perhaps Tuscan Hills, the Best Effing Winery, is a small operation offering their wines along with wines from partners. Perhaps it's more an event center offering a limited selection of private labels. Perhaps an owner/manager will explain it to me differently. In any case, most of the wines we sampled were much better than we expected, and the food was fine, too. The staff members were friendly, carrying our case to the car. We had a lovely visit here as part of the Harvest Host RV overnight stay program (see other reviews for details on this awesome opportunity!) Living in Michigan, where dogs can't even look at a restaurant let alone set foot on a patio, we were thrilled to find out we could bring our four-legged friends in with us. The staff and guests fawned over our babies, which they loved, and it was clear that this lovely local watering hole is a treasured darling among locals. Chatting with the staff revealed that lots of weddings are held here in the summer, and they have the option of opening a smaller back room up to the public when they are hosting a wedding, or vice versa, which I think is such a smart business model for a charming business like this. Since they're located in Effingham, Illinois, they have wines jokingly called effing nice and effing naughty on special in the holiday season, and effing naughty hoodies and Tshirts for sale. While they grow a small amount of decorative grapes on site, they source their grapes their wines from throughout the midwest, including my own native Michigan. While the wines were largely lovely (try the dry rosé if you like Dry whites and roses, the chambourcin if dry red is your deal, or the passion fruit sangria if you're feeling sweet,) and the $5 price for a generously poured flight was a hell of a deal, the food was the real stand out here for us. The thin crust pizza was lovely, and the stuffed bread was damn delicious! Superb service and ambiance also made our experience memorable, and the Italian desserts on offer sounded incredible too. We will definitely save room for one of those on our next visit! read more

What a wonderful surprise! Effingham is always a stop on our trip home home out east. This time we noticed a sign for Tuscan Hills Winery- of course we had to check it out. First off, it was a Sunday and they are open till 7 - SCORE!! Second -they serve food-BONUS! We did a tasting ( $5 fir 5 selections of our choice) we also ordered the white garlic sausage flatbread and loaded bread ( vaycay-carbs don't count) Food was fabulous and plenty to share. Our favorite on the wines was a cold big okra on a hot July day. We ordered a bottle to enjoy with our meal. This place was so pretty- lots of indoor and outdoor seating. Trees blocked any view of interstate and grape vineyards around the patio added to the ambiance. I noticed outdoor heat lamp so perfect for A cool evening. All the staff was very friendly. Visited Tuscan Hills while in town for work. First, the service is superb. The staff are knowledgeable and personable, making recommendations based on our likes/dislikes, very conversational. We were camping with our dog on Lake Shelbyville on a very hot day. We discovered that Tuscan Hills allows dogs inside and out, so we thought it would be a good relief from the heat. We could not have been more pleased. The owners and staff were so welcoming and friendly, and it was a great chance for our dog to cool off in the air-conditioning. They also have an awesome wine tasting of four different wines for just five dollars. They were very generous tastings as well and were all very good. We were there at lunchtime and were hungry so we ordered a pizza which was fantastic as well. All in all, it was a great experience and if we're ever in this area again, we will definitely come back. read more

Pluses--very nice building, plenty of outdoor seating during nice weather, and good facility for large groups and events. They apparently also allow customers to bring their own snacks, which many did. Minuses--The wine. They have lots to select from, but most aren't great. We enjoy many types of wines, but only found two here to be passable. Several had no body. Some others had a medicinal aftertaste. We usually buy several bottles when we visit wineries. We didn't leave with any from Tuscan Hills. We ordered two flatbread pizzas and they were pretty mediocre. They were barely done and seemed to be pre-made and cooked in a toaster oven. Not worth the $7 for each. There were also a number of babies and small children there, which we found very unusual for a winery. Glad we stopped and had really hoped this could become a "go-to" on our travel list, but sadly, no. read more

Tuscan Hills Winery is tucked away in what's probably the most idyllic part of Effingham. The atmosphere is very Mediterranean and intimate, but the space is still large enough for big parties. My friends and I enjoyed sitting outside after a long day at work and listening to the live band croon some acoustic and rock versions of 90's rock songs. The food was also carb-tastic and just what we needed. Three of us shared a 12 inch sausage pizza and Italian cheese and herb stuffed baguette. If I hadn't read another review, I never would have guessed that the food is all frozen and heated through in the oven as it's ordered. We also ordered the flight of 5 wines. For $6, what a steal! And it comes with a wine glass to take home! The whites (especially Chardonel) and both sangrias were the best in my opinion, while the one Rosé they had to offer and the red I tried (Tuscan Night) totally missed the mark for my palette. I gave 4 stars as opposed to 5 due to service. It wasn't terrible by any means, and we were treated well, but no one greeted us upon arrival to let us know the type of service they offered. We kind of wandered around and sat down before realizing we'd need to find someone inside to help us. When we finally found someone, she seemed very frazzled and anxious despite the low patron volume. All in all though, great place, great vibes, food, and especially wine! We went on a Monday afternoon to try our luck for a socially distant wine tasting and we were so, so pleased. All staff were wearing masks, tables were spaced far apart and lots of patio space outside for folks to enjoy their food. Patrons had instructions that they must wear their mask when moving about the restaurant but not when seated/eating/drinking which I thought was far and I appreciated that. We picked our wine samples at the bar and they pre-poured our tastings into small cups we could enjoy at our table which I loved. This is a nice looking winery, but I wasn't impressed with the service, it was awkward. There were two people behind the counter; the guy was ok, but the women completely lacked personality and made the experience boring and uneventful. She was counting the number of people in our party (5) out loud, and acted apprehensive the entire time. Neither of the people behind the counter know the appropriate order for serving wine. The girl started our tasting, but they tag-teamed and on with our pours (not an abnormal procedure). They started pouring red before white. Then they started this awkward pattern of switching between red and white, flipping our tasting paper back and forth to see which wine was next in their odd pour sequence. They cited the sweetness, but......no. Not really a big deal, but irritating. Aside from the above, the wine was not that good. Won't recommend or return. read more

Our 35th reunion was held here, the rates were reasonable, and the wine list was excellent. The winery has a deposit of $3 per glass, and if you decide to keep the glasses, it is added to your bill. The staff is friendly, and will assist you with the good selection of up-scale beers and ales if you aren't a wine drinker. Note, the beers and ales are bottled only, no draft. My wife and I sampled the wine list, and left with 4 bottles of red and white. The inside was well decorated, and has only been open since July of 2011, there were a number of small parties that would stop in, have a glass or two of wine, obviously a place that the local crowd is familiar with and enjoys. We plan on having our next reunion here as well, and the folks from my class that live in the area plan on visiting more often too. The only big issue is then GPS took us almost to the door, but the turn into the driveway has a sign, but it is not well lit. read more

Came down from Chicago to rent a lake house with some friends and wanted to explore some local spots while we were in the lower part of the state. We really enjoyed ourselves at Tuscan Hills. The young women at the bar were very friendly and attentive. Wines were decent. Mostly on the sweeter side but that's what a lot of people like in the area, and there were 4 drier options. Really nice ambience inside and outside. We found out that it is open late on weekends with live music some nights in the summer. Best part is we got to bring our dog with us where she got a lot of attention. Wines are 3+ stars, ambience is 5. read more
