They have flights, so you can sample before you buy a bottle. There are snacks like cheese, nuts and meat, to purchase in a cooler if you are hungry. There are also plenty of beverage choices if you do not wish to have wine, and milk and juice for kiddos if you are visiting with your family. I have always felt comfortable walking in with my kids. We often stopped here on our way from Indianapolis to St. Louis and stretched our legs. It is also close to a beautiful covered bridge, so i t makes pulling off the interstate a nice experience to pair the winery and bridge together. I feel like the wines are a combination of excellent flavor and yet affordable for yourself or as a gift. The lighting is just a bit on the dark side for some people, but lends itself to a more intimate setting. The seating is cozy and close. There is a combination of your basic round tables with chairs, high chairs at the bar, and custom made semi-circular booths made with a comfortable padded material, as well as a couple of genuine couches. The Verve permits smoking, but more importantly to me - - is a cigar friendly bar - - even offering to "some" cigar patrons the use of custom cigar ashtrays. The staff working behind the bar is very friendly and knowledgeable mix masters and often lend to making an evening much more enjoyable. But what sets The Verve apart from many other places in town, is the variety of live music they feature during the week and not just the weekends. The live bands there can range from accoustic, to garage grundge, to straight out rock, cover bands, blues, and borderline jazz/blues. Many of the artists performing there are showcasing their own compositions. The Verve also hosts an annual music festival taking up about a block and a half of downtown Terre Haute (in front of The Verve) called "Blues At The Crossroads." The hash brown casserole was very good, but as compared to the generous portion of ribs, you get maybe a couple of bites of the casserole. I just wish I'd had more.
