Christmas Garden of Lights. It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas. What a magical way to start off the Christmas season. We went here with family and were welcomed with holiday cheer. The Redding Garden of Lights at Turtle Bay's McConnell Botanical Gardens is just on the other side of the Sundial Bridge. The stunning display features over 10-acres and one million colorful lights. So many pictures moments! Not only did we enjoy the gorgeous display of lights but also the accompaniment of synchronized HOLIDAY MUSIC! Not to mention the selection of FOOD TRUCKS, BEVERAGES,Beautiful FIRE PITS, and delicious S'MORES! This is a Christmas Holiday must see! Note: No dogs allowed. From post cards, sweatshirts, tshirts and magnets which is the typical items you usually see in these type of shops, to unique hand crafted items from California artists. Wonderful place that had plenty to see... we didn't even get to see all of it because we didn't have enough time but it was all so cool. We'll have to come back to see their bird exhibit as well! Great exhibits definitely worth visiting and very unique unlike a common zoo! Also, it was well worth the extra "personal experience" with the trainers and Timber (the beaver). We got to hear some personal experiences they had swimming with Timber and more. They were lovely people that educated me on all sorts of things about Timber and his kind. We loved feeding and petting Timber by his pool zone or their opossum or porcupine. It was a hot day so he cooled us off! Go in with an open mind and ready to have some natural fun with animals and nature! This is a very unique and unusual experience by the way. You won't find this elsewhere! They took lovely pics of us as well that maybe I'll post some time! read more

Mom and Dad were visiting me over the weekend, and what do yiu do when parents come to visit? If you live in the Redding / Red Bluff area, you take them to see the Sundial Bridge and then you go browse the little gift shop and maybe have coffee there. Well, that's exactly what we did. We walked across the bridge and came here to the gift shop. The shop carries all the usual trinkets and postcards. I more needed a little boost from some caffeine! The coffee shop is nice with decent coffee and little sandwiches and snacks if you like. We just stuck to coffee and conversation. It was a nice place to stop, but I'd probably not make a special trip here, unless I have some more out of town guests. read more

I highly recommend Turtle Bay for locals and travelers alike. What a wonderful learning resource for children and Redding! I have been taking my grand sons there for three years. They offer some thing for children of all ages. My grandsons look forward to each new hands-on interactive exhibit with great anticipation. However, at ages four and six their favorite activities are at the outdoor area where they can ride the zip line, climb the tall fort slide, build a water damn, visit the butterfly house, feed the exotic birds and visit the reptile house. Year-round this is a fun outing for kids. read more

I am a pretty big shopper, so I don't say this lightly, but the Turtle Bay Museum Store might be one of the best gift shops I have ever been in. Truly... whoever does their purchasing knows what they are doing. I went in for a coffee and left with a cold brew, a brie and apple panini, and $150 in merchandise. All kinds of super motivational gifts. It made me happy to spend the 10 minutes it took for my sandwich shopping. read more

As far as souvenir stores/coffee shops are concerned, Turtle Bay's is far better than one you'd find at any other big park. The items they sell are carefully selected and top quality vs. the cheap trinkets you'd see elsewhere. Plus they serve a variety of snack foods and coffee and they're located right at the Sundial bridge. What more could you ask for? I ended up buying a beautiful Owl mug for my mom who collects all things owls, as well as a honey stick for my little boy as a treat. There were a number of quality books on the history of Redding and hiking which probably rival any selection on the subject in the city. They do serve Peet's coffee, which I;'m not a fan of, but I'm not really a fan of coffee period. Either way, there is something for everyone to enjoy. read more

What a shame that this is part of Turtle Bay. I see by the website link that this is the new gift store and coffee bar. They should have kept the old store and café, I saw nothing that looked good in the coffee bar, it all appeared to be prepackaged. There were even fewer things that were appealing in the store. read more

This is a pretty typical Museum/Zoo/Aquarium Store that you've seen at just about every Museum/Aquarium/Zoo that you've ever visited before. They have all your typical over-priced tsotchkes, knick-knacks, and souvenirs (I like to get a magnet from everywhere I visit!) that you've seen before and, of course, they're all somewhat themed towards the exhibits/attraction that you were just in. It's a clever way to make some quick bucks off you right before you vacate the premises and that's more than OK with me; in fact I've come to expect it. The one thing that does separate this location from all the other one's I've seen (and the reason it's a 4-star instead of a 3-star) is they have a Peet's Coffee inside and that is exactly what I needed after 4-hours of milling about smartly; corralling my toddler; and right before a 4-hour drive back to San Jose. I ordered a Turtle Swirl -some kinda Hazelnut thingamajig. Quite frankly I stopped listening after, "Hazelnut"- with an extra shot of espresso and it perked me right up. SMASHED PENNY COLLECTION Of all the gift shops we stopped in on this weekend's journey, this was the smallest. They sold clothing, figurines, CDs, and other pretty trinkets. It was all priced pretty similarly to everywhere else we'd been. In the corner they have several complimentary magazines, including one titled "California" that reminded me a lot of our local "Diablo" magazine. It was here I purchased the booklet for our penny collection. You know those machines that take your penny (and fifty cents and smash it with a logo of whatever scenic spot youre at?) well, they make books to put all of your pennies in. I passed on the book which I first saw at the Drive-Thru Chandelier Tree. Stupid me. So I was pretty happy when I saw the same book here for the same price ($4.95). Now I can start tracking down more penny smashing machines :) read more

This review is for the "cafe" that is part of the the Turtle Bay Museum, but physically next to the building. Husband and kids went here for lunch. Overpriced menu with sub-par food. Sandwiches are pre-packaged and not very tasty. You would do better to drive elsewhere, or pack your own lunch. read more

This is a nice small coffee/gift shop that the visitors enjoy. I would like to see it open until 7:00 PM during the summer months as there are a lot of visitors during this time. I think it would be a great benefit for the visitors and people from Redding as well, as during the hot summer months we go down during the evening. It would be profitable for Turtle Bay as well. read more

Peet's coffee! mmm! The store is great too, has a lot of local items for sale and great kids selection too. The employees are very nice :)

Very friendly and helpful staff and a good variety of tasty beverages. Great way to complete your River Trail walk or ride.
