The big rumor is that ownership is looking to sell the business to private equity and continue to push pricing. It is a business, so I don't fault them for trying to push profits. However, the quality of the instruction and the resumes of the instructors don't sync up with the costs. They do not make cuts on their travel teams and put kids that have no business playing travel ball on the field, resulting in very poor results. They preach they are most concerned about attitude and effort but the reality is that is just an excuse because most of their youth teams get smoked in the tournaments. Their Futures program for high school kids is actually really good and they take that seriously because they want to get players signed for college so they can tout that to their customers. However, those players come from all over the region and many have never been All Star customers. So, if your son is truly an elite high school player, All Star Futures is a good thing but if your son is a young player between 8-14 I would not waste your time or money. There are more economical and better player development options in the area.

I had my first visit to the Trenton Thunder and I loved it! I went to a fundraiser in the club box…read moresuite. I was very affordable. There was a buffet and bar. The suite was large with lots of seating and tvs to watch other games. There were elevators that lead to the suite. No stairs and wheel chair accessible, The stadium was so well run. Best seats with a view outdoors or in suite. It's very clean and parking is only $5. The mascots were fantastic. Because the stadium is small the interacted with everyone who wanted to meet them. Camera crews were all over the park put kids on the big screen. Lots of on field games and fun for kids. I have only one suggestion on what to avoid, the funnel cake. I had two friends get it. They drop it into a fryer frozen. It is not a normal Funnel cake. It was so hard you couldn't eat it Thank you the suite crew for the hospitality. It really was a wonderful experience.

The Trenton Thunder ballpark is proof that smaller is often better. The park is compact, which…read moremeans every seat feels close to the action. You never need binoculars. You can hear the crack of the bat and the chatter from the dugout without straining. Baseball as it should be seen. The Delaware River runs right behind the outfield. On hot nights the breeze rolls in off the water. It cools the air, turns the place into something comfortable when the rest of New Jersey is sweating. That is not something you can engineer. That is geography being kind. Parking is easy. Five dollars. Cash only. Plentiful and close. In a world where stadium parking often feels like extortion, this is practically charity. The food is not just food. It is a catalog of local pride. Case's Pork Roll. Killarney's. Rita's Italian Water Ice. Raccoon Saloon. Alongside these sit Colbie's Southern Fried Chicken and Boomer's BBQ. If none of that calls to you there are still the old standards. Hot dogs. Pretzels. Popcorn. Nachos. The ballpark classics are covered. There is even a picnic area down the left field line for groups who want baseball and burgers in equal measure. The ballpark is easy to get to. Right on Route 29 by the riverfront. Quick access to 29, 129, I-195, and I-295. No mazes. No confusion. A night here is affordable, easy, and close to the event in every sense. Five stars.

Big Leagues Academy is now located within the Newtown Athletic Club training facility along…read morePheasant Run in Newtown Township. It is the place young athletes go for the extra learning and practice needed to improve their skills in their sport of choice. My 13 year old has taken several seasons of baseball education and muscle memory work here. Not the most naturally gifted athlete, the additional exposure and repetitiveness are ideal for preparing him for the upcoming tryouts and season. The coaches and trainers are experienced and professional, yet know they are working with young people. They are dedicated to the task. Using the pitching machines to work on batting stroke is also invaluable, and the cost is very reasonable. The facility is only one year old and state of the art when it comes to adequate space and equipment for most outdoor sports. While we were there this weekend, in addition to Babe Ruth assessments, the other side of the huge building was being used for lacrosse practice. Big Leagues Academy is fortunate to have a good relationship with the NAC. It is also very interesting to watch the parents interact with their kids, some quietly encouraging, others more vocally so, but all with the earnest desire to see their sons and daughters be more successful in sports. Everyone seems to know each other from attending the actual games their kids are preparing to play. Occasionally, a major league player will walk in to offer a clinic. The kids really love those. So do the dads.

Total waste of time…read more I spent some time researching local softball training programs for my daughters prior to the covid situation. I exchanged emails with the proprietor a couple of times and liked the way they organized lessons via an app that provided flexibility. With a new travel softball season upon us and training programs mostly reopened, I looked to follow through with lessons. While I am happy to pay for lessons, I saw on the app that there was a free pitching lesson advertised on Fri 9/25. I figured that would serve as an introduction and if we liked how it went, we would continue. I signed up on the app for the pitching lesson and received a confirmation. It was scheduled to begin at 7pm at an address on Franklin Corner Road. I left work early to take my daughter. When we arrived at the address stated in the invitation it appeared to be a random house on Franklin Corner Road in Lawrence Township. Since we didnt know where we were going, we arrived 20 minutes early. I called the number that was listed in the confirmation email three times over the course of 20 minutes and only got voicemail. After waiting a half hour on the side of the road, we went home, having wasted hours of our time. I'm not sure what happened here, but I am attaching everything that documents this- the confirmation emails, the house we sat outside of, the unanswered calls. For anyone considering lessons, I would definitely recommend seeking a business that is more reliable and responsive.
