Unfortunately, I got a toothache when my regular dentist was closed. I desperately tried to "tough it out" until his business hours on Monday. I just couldn't do it. My husband suggested that he take me to a dentist he had tried when the same thing happened to him. Unfortunately, being new to Turlock, he called Turlock Dental Care which is a very similar name to the dentist office that he was trying to reach. They had an opening so he made an appointment for me. I felt very lucky to get it. Had I only known what was to come l would not have felt so lucky. This mistake would cost me about $10,000 in some unnecessary and some overpriced and quite frankly weird and bizarre dental procedures. Being a senior citizen on a fixed income, this is a big deal. While no one would like this, my husband and I, being retirees, have no way to make it back! The appointment time came and my husband drove me to the office. I must say that I was quite impressed with the fancy office and the initial treatment that I received. They are really good at fooling you into believing that they have your best interests in mind. This is not true. What they actually have in mind is fleecing you of as much cash as possible. After the first "consultation " they lead you to a little room much like a car dealership where you are presented with a bunch of papers to sign. They get you when you are in pain and vulnerable. The only "contract" that was legit was the first one which was for the extraction of the tooth that was causing the pain. The rest was for redoing procedures that were already done by my regular dentist and covered by Medi-Cal (like I said I am a retiree). Being in an extreme pain when questioned about how I would pay for said procedures (I was told that they do not take Medi-Cal no surprise there) I divulged some private information. I was then told to sign the big bundle of paper. Being in that kind of pain, I would and did sign anything. After realizing my terrible mistake, I knew that there was nothing that I could do about it. I figured that I might as well get what I had paid for done. On the final visit, the dentist said that he had time to do the procedure that we had talked about. He said that I should ask my husband who was sitting in the waiting room if we had time to do it. I said that I would text him and see. I had assumed that it was one of the procedures that I had already paid for. Unfortunately, it was not. The dentist said that he would prefer that I go to the waiting room to ask my husband. I now know that was so his employees would think that I asked him to spend another $2700 on a bizarre procedure. This was not the case. I thought that it was something on the list of things that I had already paid for. I went back in. I did not sign anything stating that I understood or agreed to this procedure. All that I know is that it involved running strips of metal between my teeth. This resulted in a chip to one of my front teeth (ironically he had said that if I didn't have this done my two front teeth would fall out) and my previously tight teeth having gaps between them where particles of food are now constantly being stuck. After the procedure was done, my husband and I were escorted to the billing area where we were told that we owed another $2700. My husband, of course, questioned this. The receptionist looked at me and said that I had agreed to it. She very smirky looked at me and said, "You know you did, Mary". I didn't say a word. I knew that there was no point arguing with these people. When I returned to my dentist, he said, "Why didn't you come to me." I told him that it was because he was closed. He also asked why I had had his work that he had just done the month before replaced. I told him that I didn't know that I had. Then I told him what had happened. I told him how my son-in-law had told me that I should have refused to pay. My dentist said that I had to pay. I said that I knew. Otherwise the police would be called. Don't be fooled by the fancy chandeliers. Turlock Dental Care does not have your best interests in mind. It is simply interested in separating you from as much of your hard earned cash as possible! I had a wisdom tooth pulled here over a year ago, and the procedure was fully paid.. they even make it clear they don't perform any service without full payment upfront. Out of nowhere, a year later, I received a text saying I owed them money. When I called, the biller told me it was a mistake on their end and confirmed that I had paid in cash. I asked for written confirmation, and instead of receiving that, I got another text saying I still owed money. I called back, and the second person I spoke with was dismissive and said she didn't know why I had been told my account was paid. Overall, the communication was confusing and unprofessional. Getting conflicting answers and being told I owed money after a year.. despite paying in full was frustrating and unnecessary. I hope they improve their billing organization and customer service so this doesn't happen to anyone else!! read more

Very disappointing experience. Despite confirming my appointment a week in advance, I was repeatedly contacted in the days leading up to it--bordering on harassment. The staff seemed disorganized, calling me five minutes after my scheduled time and pressing for my exact location even after I told them I was on my way. During my first visit, I encountered a representative who was unprofessional and dismissive, frequently interrupting and not allowing me to speak. The overall tone felt aggressive and overly focused on money rather than patient care. When I shared my concerns, the manager appeared either unwilling or unable to take constructive feedback. My husband recently got braces from this Orthodontist. Brackets kept breaking off half an hour after installing them and when he went in for the bottom braces, brackets also fell off. We were on a weekend outing and he had to cut the wire himself. He was not eating anything hard and some of them fell off randomly. I have advised him to request a refund and have the braces removed so he can go with a different Ortho. Staff is also very dismissive. I will post a follow up. - Follow up. They refused a refund (even though he just got them). They fixed all the broken brackets and took "extra" precaution and went up and beyond which they should have done initially. Let's start with the good. The dentists, staff, and hygienists do a wonderful job! I appreciate their service and kindness. Now the bad. Their billing practices are a problem! I was given an option in the dentist chair to do an onlay instead of a crown for $715 instead of $0 as the crown was completely covered under my dual insurance. I agreed to it to save most of the structure of my tooth, and I even paid the quoted amount before they did the work. After leaving the dentist office I get a call that they made a "mistake," and I owed an additional $250. Mind you, I went there thinking I wasn't going to pay anything. I made it very clear that I would pay it but would not be back. I made an informed decision to do the work at the quoted price while I was numb siting in the chair lol. I didn't hear anything until I received an invoice, so I paid it and changed dental offices. I also had a previous billing issue regarding an issue between billing and delta dental. I called and Delta Dental was missing information from the office to approve payment. It is too bad since they do good work. I even referred my girlfriend who will also be changing dental offices. My experience happened around 2020-2021 I was referred here through a family friend. Dr.Mcombs is who I was seen by. I needed work done on my 6 front teeth due to rot and a few root canals I was quoted 19 grand! What I ended walking away with was tiny little composite veneers for six front teeth a porcelain cap for a root canal, a root canal without a cap, one wisdom tooth still intact And 19 grand in the hands of scam artists! My dad had passed on in 2018 and I was left with an amount of money and my aunt was in charge of distributing assets and needs till I turned thirty. She was in another state so she would write this office checks! Making it easy for them to send her what had been done that wasn't done and how much they needed! So this dentistry is very modern, clean, and nice looking. The staff and dentists were all very friendly during my 3 procedures I had done there. BUT this is where all the compliments end. I had spent upwards of $3000 on dental work here, and have never received a single call back regarding a billing dispute that I have been trying to settle since May 2022. It is now December 2022, and despite my weekly calls to the office, my calls never get returned. I even escelated my concern to the manager KATHERINE, whom still never returned any of my messages and calls left. AVOID this office. i did my gum disease treatment here, and some fillings and i had to constantly call whoever did the estimates and benefits overview because their estimates were always off by over 100% of what my benefits covered. A simple question like "are you in network with ___" was changed about 4 times to the point where i had to schedule a call with them and my benefits coordinator. they get offended when you ask for itemized bills and charge you for "gifts" that you don't even need. why are you "gifting" me toothpaste and toothbrushes and floss just to charge me over 200$ for it? i decided not to do my orthodontist care with them and when they asked me why, they got offended and asked who i decided to do my ortho care with and when i told them who it was, they bad mouthed the other business and said their place was terrible and they wouldn't do a good job. if you have the option to go somewhere else, choose that option. they don't care about their patient's needs, all they care about is scamming you into paying more money. always ask for an itemized it saved me a ton of money from them. i will say that the care i received was good, but there's plenty of other places that do a great job and don't try to scam you read more

$360 for a basic cleaning?! Their explanation is that Delta Dental demands that price. Really???? That's how it works? So there was that. Then, the dentist whose face I never saw as it was covered by goggles and mask at all times, told me I would need 2 extractions. A subsequent trip to one of the most accomplished and well known endodontists in Ca revealed that not only were the 2 teeth fine, the pulp had built up beautifully and no treatment was necessary. A) After setting your second foot in the door they're asking for money. B) They have signs up, right in front of your face while sitting in the chair, offering free nitrous and free goodies for bringing in other people. C) I know 2 other people who have been to this dentist and subsequently left. In both cases the hygenist strongly suggested cleanings every 3 months. They did the same to me. I floss, brush, waterpik 2-4 times.day. Delta Dental, who I just got off the phone with, says "that's nuts". D) I'm 69. I've been to my share of dentists over the course of my life. The most important thing to this place is making money. I'm of the ilk who believe dentists ARE doctors and dental care is as important as other parts of the body. Patient - doctor trust is a big deal. I wouldn't trust these people to brush my french poodle's teeth. I went in for a consultation, and before the appointment, the receptionist told me how much my payment would be and that would be it. I now receive a bill. Not sure for what. As previously stated, I believed that all payments had been taken care of. Others have also stated that they felt pressured at times to undergo certain treatments. True. The dentists there reminded me of used car salespeople pushing all the treatments one had to have. My dentist discussed my problems and that they needed to be done right away. They pay the dentist very little for all the procedures or nothing at all. If you have to pay out of pocket, then your insurance sucks. The office staff is amazing and so are the hygienists. The issue I have is there pushiness. I have asked for no Fluoride, I am an adult and I do not like it. Every time I go there, they badger me to have it. It makes me sick and I do not care for it. Last time, I caved and did the Fluoride, but really did not want to. They do the same with xrays. One big issue is their prices and number of dentists. They charge more, but state that your insurance will pay so why not. My child had a SMALL cavity. The dentist that diagnosed it was not the dentist that filled it. They had a younger dentist do it. I asked her why was I paying a 71-dollar fee for X-rays and would be charged $39 for a cleaning when my insurance pays out at 100%. I'm not sure what kind of formula or facts they base their "estimates" off of but they are obviously a very inexperienced office, or they have some kind of shady business happening behind the scenes. Dishonest, money hungry, criminal - I am not sure I have ever written a negative review. I am a positive individual who gives all businesses the benefit of the doubt and tends to always have a glass half full perspective. That being said, what this office is doing is absolutely criminal. I went to them last year and am still dealing with the ramifications of their violations over a year later. This office is dishonest and I would never recommend them to anyone! Dr. McCulla claimed I needed 8 cavities filled (all which was proven incorrect by the 4 other dentists I saw after this nightmare occurred). Worried, I scheduled an appt to have 4 of the 8 teeth filled. The office required I pay a large portion of the procedures PRIOR to the appt (I have NEVER had an office require this upfront) so I felt the need to attend the appt and use the money I had already put towards this appt. Before he proceeded with the fillings he reminded me of the other work I needed done in a follow up appt. I shared with him that I would prefer to get a second opinion before completing the other 4 fillings. His mood quickly changed at this point. I wish I had walked out of the office at this moment. He then proceeded to drill into all 4 of my front teeth for what I thought was "4 small fillings." Without my knowledge, without him saying a word, he drilled too deep into 2 of my 4 front teeth and pulled out part of the nerves of the teeth essentially forcing the root canal process. Again, without my knowledge (I was in the chair under the impression he was still working on the fillings as he NEVER once mentioned he was drilling deeper or pulling my nerves) he closed 2 of the 4 teeth with temporary fillings. After he was completed I sat up and he looked at the hygienist (still not saying a word directly to me) and said she needs to be scheduled for 2 root canals. I was absolutely shocked. At no point was this EVER mentioned in my appt to me or did he mention any of the procedures he was completing in MY mouth. I have since seen multiple specialists and the 2 teeth he damaged unfortunately could not be saved. All 4 of the other dentists reviewed my xrays and stated they saw NO REASON for him to even drill at all, not even for the cavities he claimed he saw. In a nutshell, this man damaged 4 healthy front teeth with absolutely no reason. Ironically they have a brand new office. I'm sure funding it was no problem when you find dental issues that never existed in the first place. Also, the front desk was completely dishonest and told me they were an in network carrier for my insurance. I asked on multiple occasions why I was paying so much because I have 100% dental coverage. I could not figure out why my bills were so high until the paperwork came in the mail and stated in black and white that they were out of network. read more

BEWARE!! Get a Second opinion!! I came here because I was visiting from out of a town and needed just a teeth cleaning. They told me the dentist had to see me first, fine. The assistant started reading off high numbers suggesting I had severe gingivitis and needed a deep cleaning. I had never had anyone say that despite having regular cleanings every 3-6 months. Then the dentist, Dr.McCulla, came and said my tooth was cracked and definitely needed an immediate crown and I was not to wait. Then they told me I could NOT have the cleaning that day because too much time had passed on the exam! The whole point of my visit was the cleaning! So I left and given all the fear they tried to induce, I decided to seek a a second opinion that same week from a well known periodontist and UCSF faculty dentist. They both said I did NOT need a deep cleaning, which would have cost me a bunch of money. Secondly, they said There was NO crack in the tooth, and it was just a stain from a previous filling. Thus, I definitely did Not need a crown which again would have cost me tons of money and would have been unnecessary. Please do your research before giving into these unnecessary expensive treatments which can also cause more damage to your teeth. If you are considering any cosmetic dentistry...invisalign, braces...etc AVOID this dentist. Dr. McCulla started my invisalign treatment and was paid in full. Several months later I moved to another state. When I contacted several dentists in my area to see what my options were, they advised me to get a refund from Dr. McCulla for the treatment/visits not provided. Then to finish treatment with a new provider. I contacted Katherine in the office and requested a refund. At first I was just told no, that Dr. McCulla does not give refunds. When I told Katherine what I was told by the other offices she assured me that dentist offices often take over invisalign treatment plans in the patients new location, at no additional charge. I took her word for it, even though it did not make sense to me that a new provider would do work for free, after another provider was paid in full. I went to the Orthodontist she recommended. She spoke to a woman named Lisa and apparently had it all set up for me to be seen and finish my treatment at no cost. I was excited that many months of a back and forth with Dr. McCullas office would be over and I would finally be able to finish my treatment plan. I showed up to the office that Katherine recommended. After going over all of my new patient info and taking xrays, they informed me that in order to finish my treatment plan it would cost $4,000. The same amount that I already paid Dr. McCulla in full. I called Katherine while I was still at the Orthodontic office and I was livid. I asked Katherine why she had me come to a office she recommended with false information, that it would not be at no cost? Katherine still acted like she had no clue what was going on and acted as if the Orthodontic office was lying to me. I told her I wanted my remaining aligners mailed to me, and a $1,000 refund. I called Lisa at the new office and talked to her about the original conversation she had with Katherine. Lisa informed me that she did in fact tell Katherine that there would be additional charges me for finishing my treatment. Lisa said at that point in the conversation Katherine began to sound upset and didn't understand why they wouldn't see me at no charge. Lisa also informed me that every call to their office is recorded and would provide me copies of the conversation. Lisa was blown away that they not only lied to me but, also would not provide me with a partial refund. Lisa explained that any office she has had contact with offers partial refunds to the patient when they move out of the area. So, Katherine lied to me!! Sent me to an office visit knowing that I would be charged. I also called the invisalign company and they also stated that patients getting a refund is the norm and the fact that Dr. McCulla refused to offer the refund was unusual to them. Invisalign said they would contact the office and speak with them but they could not force Dr. McCulla to provide the refund. I am in the process of obtaining a copy of the phone conversation between Lisa and Katherine. I received a letter by email from Dr. McCulla that he would offer me $500.00 as a courtesy. He was paid almost $4,000 and I wasn't even half way finished with my treatment plan. So my request for $1,000 was on the generous side on my part. I responded to the email saying they can send me the $500 if they chose to, but I am requesting $1,000 and my aligners. I also warned them that if they chose to only send me the $500 I would make sure to warn as many people as possible to avoid going to their office. They mailed the $500.00. Clearly this office only cares about making money. They absolutely do not care about patient satisfaction or doing the right thing. He was paid for services and office visits that were not received. This office has had over a year to do the right thing, they chose not to. I WILL WARN EVERYONE I CAN TO AVOID THIS OFFICE. read more

The staff is incredibly kind and professional. I love how they take the time to genuinely get to know their patients and address their dental concerns with ease. Many years ago, at another dental office, I experienced a painful procedure that made me feel scared to visit the dentist. I went in as a new patient, I was thinking I was going to get a cleaning & x-rays, I got x-rays alright , I also got my mouth photographed, my picture taken & teeth checked by another Dr & told me that I needed 3 other procedures & Still No Cleaning . When I was leaving I was advised I had a copay Wow !what a shock on the amount I had to pay. STAY AWAY FROM HERE as you will be paying more than you expect.
