It was always a seamless process, done entirely by secure web upload and Zoom (I've never even been to their office in person!). The process was so smooth that I continued to use them even after moving out of California, and only stopped using Cynthia's services because I need a local tax expert who can deal with the local tax insanity in my new town in a different state. A lot of times we had issues with either the IRS or the state of California contesting our returns for one reason or another. Cynthia always advised us how to respond and held our hand during the process, and when possible she even called the IRS herself to have our refunds released. Pricing is very fair considering you get your taxes done by an actual IRS Enrolled Agent (not some made-up "Tax Advisor" who has no training or expertise in tax law, which is what you get at the big national chains).

What concerned me was that this was in early February, and I was confused as to why an extension was already being recommended at that point without first taking the time to properly understand my situation. As someone who was actively looking for a reliable tax professional, I expected better communication, professionalism, and customer service. Instead, I felt like I was being rushed through the process and that my questions and concerns weren't being taken seriously. Filing taxes is something people need to feel confident about, and the first impression matters. Unfortunately, my experience with Tax Pro Plus did not give me that confidence. Things started out fine when we first started working with him in Q4 of last year, but so far this year: -No one has balanced the books AT ALL -They were so last minute with filing sales taxes (within 24 hours of them being due) that it was a mess and I'm worried about it's accuracy - I had to contact them to ask where my monthly reports were when I realized just this week (mid March) I hadn't seen any reports or ever received a year end report for 2021 - While on todays call (which Dustin forgot about, I had to call him 15 minutes into the time he suggested), he told me we needed to file my S corp. I asked when it was due and he said... "today" (!!!!) When I asked how he planned ti do that he said "we will just pull all the info from your Quickbooks" and I said "when was the last time anyone actually looked at the Quickbooks?" And he admitted not since last year He explained that they were short staffed, which can happen to anyone, but the fact no one told me this is inexcusable. I'm now left desperately trying to find another accountant to help me clean up this mess. If you want to work with him, I would make sure you grill him on his capacity for new clients. I thought I'd done that in our first meeting and he assured me he had plenty of capacity, so really drive home that point. This was the single worst experience I've ever had with an accountant.

After filing he went client hen I followed up, he kept pointing me to IRS Advocates -- people who couldn't make sense of what he'd filed. His response to my frustration: "The Advocate is the only solution that has worked for me in cases like this." Meanwhile, he admitted his own go-to CPA colleague "couldn't figure this one out either." His excuse for not calling the IRS directly? He couldn't get through -- too hard to bypass the automated system. That's not my problem to solve. That's what I paid $350/hour for. I knew from the beginning that a 1040-NR was the right path. He ignored that for an entire year, burned time on the wrong strategy, and only admitted it when the deadlines had already passed: "Now we finally know that a 1040NR is our only option. We didn't know that before." The only thing that got him to respond was a negative Yelp review. He called, promised to finish the work if I deleted it and paid more. I made the mistake of trusting him -- deleted the review and paid him more. He delivered nothing. I eventually had to handle everything myself. When I did, I was told his original filings were done incorrectly from the start. I left a second review. He called again asking me to remove it in exchange for finishing. I refused.
