The one condition had to be they were prepared to put me to sleep to have any treatment including check-ups. What a lucky break I have been going faithfully to see Nicola for the last 15 years and have never missed an appointment. The surgery staff are very helpful and there is an air of calm everywhere. When I finally had my abcess done Nicola said I would drift off and wouldn't remember a thing. As I was going under I was worried as nothing seemed to be happening. I tugged her arm and said "Cardiff City won the FA Cup in 1927 I'm still here..." then thankfully woke up to an abcess free life. I think I fell in love with her then... I started going to the surgery when it was still at it's City Road address. The move to West Grove a few years ago has been a positive one from my point of view. The only negative point is that we have had to move reluctantly from an NHS dentist to a private practice. I think Nicola held it off as long as possible before giving in to harsh financial reality. I get a lot of information from the surgery and organise my visits by email which is great for me.

It is mainly a private practice but fees are not exorbitant and I believe children of patients are seen free of charge. My daughter and grandchildren go there too-the children love their visits. There is a car park just across the road in Clifton Down shopping centre.

I was originally due to have a tooth out (one of my large molars) as a half hearted (and what I believe) not done properly root canal treatment didn't work with my NHS dentist. While I was at the hospital, due to have the tooth out, a kind young woman said that really I shouldn't have to have it out, but that the NHS are not funded for a second root canal. Giving me Vahdaty's number I called. I had a consultation and 3 subsequent treatments while they cleaned the tooth out and got rid of the infection. Everything was very pleasant, clean and professional. This was over a year ago, and although there is no guarantee for people undertaking root canals, my treatment was successful. This dentist only does root canal treatments. The reason I give her a four is because of the price.. It cost £600 all in all, but if you have the money, don't listen to the NHS. She doesn't have credit card facilities either but you can pay for the treatment in installments.

The day after the treatment I had a feeling of dizziness, jaw ache and excruciating pain down my face. I had to go to hospital and was told it was as though I had experienced a head injury. I rang vahdarty, but no help was given. I think it was the clamp which is used while the procedure is carried out and it was a very rough procedure, my head was being pulled up and down in the clamp. Several trips to hospital and to a cranial specialist had to be undertaken and a year on I still get an aching jaw. I have also spoken to other people who have used this Endodontist and they too felt the procedure was very rough and left them in pain. I'm sure some people would have had a good experience of this practice, but it was unfortunate not enough time was taken and there was no aftercare for me, but i had to rely on hospital for support. I paid alot of money for 6 months of hell and wish I had never gone to this practice.

The receptionist treat her clients like they were school chidlren and once when I called up to say I was stuck in traffic and therefore would be about 5 minutes latre for my apppointment, she cancelled it! So it was a welcome releif to be treated with courtesy by the receptionsit and actually have the dentist talk to me like an adult and explain everything in laymans term whenever he carried out a procedure. After my first check up they carried out some xrays and saw that I needed two fillings. Grrr The appointment was made for two weeks time and I nearly cancelled it again and again as I couldn't bare the thought of that wretched drill! I decided in the end to be brave and attend the appointment. When I got there the receptionist remembered me from the previous appointment and the fact that I was a nervous patient. She explained this to the dentist and his assistant. Who both treated me so nicely throughout my treatment. The nurse held my hand when the dentist gave me the injection and the dentist told me to raise my hand whenever I wanted him to stop. I was very brave and the treatment was completed. It was so lovely to have such kind people looking after me. My fear of dentists has no reduced..... Well ever so slightly anyway!
