It was an incredibly peaceful and relaxing visit just being able to sit on the bench, gazing out at the water. Scenic, breezy, and romantic. You can see the Unconditional Surrender statue and enjoy views of the USS Midway. We went on a weekday, so it wasn't as crowded. I will definitely be back, but perhaps next time, I'll visit during the evening. I think the views will be incredible at night.

FUN PORTSIDE PARK w/ plenty of vendors and views! Tuna Harbor is in between the Midway and Seaport Village. It's a quick walk and many locals and visitors like to chill here and people watch. I recently saw a one-man band playing here and the crowd was really into it. Tuna Harbor is part of the Unified Port of San Diego Bay pathway. I love admiring the ships and general chill vibes here. It's always a pleasure! A couple restaurants have closed in this stretch of the bay but I'm hopeful new businesses will open soon! Tuna Harbor is great for runners and scooter enthusiasts. I also saw a lot of people speed walking. It's such a fantastic place to get in a walk as people are respectful of each other's space. I love that there's a variety of people that visit too.

Great little park along San Diego's massive harbor It was our first time here and we found some pretty cool landmarks to see at the Tuna Harbor Park. It was named for the commercial fishing industry in San Diego and its history as a tuna port. We spent about 30-45 mins at the park. We enjoyed the beautiful scenic bay views, the promenade for walking (or jogging) and took advantage of shaded areas to relax on a bench. There are bike routes for bikers and got perfect views of the different types of boating activity on the San Diego Bay. We were not able to visit the USS Midway Museum this time but seeing the exterior from the park made me grasp just how massive the aircraft carrier is. The park draws people in because of the gigantic Kissing Couple statue but, however, closer to the water is the bigger attraction which is a tribute to Bob Hope entertaining the troops. From the park we could see two aircraft carriers -- the USS Abraham Lincoln CVN-72 and the USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70). These two aircraft carriers are still in active service. It was pretty cool to see. We saw street performers and food vendors at the park. Lots of parking but they are metered so prepare to pay. There are restrooms in the premises. In a nutshell, Tuna Harbor Park is home to the Bob Hope Memorial and "Unconditional Surrender" statue and adjacent to the USS Midway. Capiche? Review #2226

Nice park along the water. Named to remember the commercial fishing industry in San Diego, it was once a historic tuna port. Today, the park pays tribute those who served in the military with an emphasis on WWII. The Famous "V-J Day in Times Square" photo as the "Unconditional Surrender/Embracing Peace" twenty-five foot sculpture fittingly located near the USS Midway. A moment captured in time by two photographers, the more famous by Albert Eisenstaedt and second taken by Navy photographer Lt. Victor Jorgensen, as New York celebrated on August 14, 1945. World War II was finally over. Inspired by this iconic image, artist J. Seward Johnson recreated the photo with a series of foam and urethane temporary statues that were exhibited in cities around the world, including New York City, Pearl Harbor, and Caen, France. San Diego commissioned a permanent bronze to commemorate and pay tribute to a unique moment in time.

Kissing statue is here and it is just a few minutes of a walk from the U.S.S. Midway. This is a small park that pretty much will only take a few minutes to visit. There are also other statues here besides the kissing statue so walk around and take it in. I came when it was a little gloomy but I'm sure on a sunny day this place would look really pretty. People are standing and selling things on the side. I bought a drink of water from this area. Walk around and just take a stroll here. It is pretty relaxing.

What a great little park alongside such a great ship, the USS Midway! Took a visit here the day after touring the USS Midway, as I saw from the ship the famous "kiss" statue memorialized in the photo of a NYC sailor and young lady celebrating news of the end of World War II. This park follows the water and offers a paved path for ADA access. It ends out by the restaurant and a large, life sized memorial to Bob Hope, who entertained wartime troops with his great comedy and personality. There are vendors selling snacks along the park as well, and it was fun just to sit and people watch as tourists (yeah, like me I guess!) walk up to the large kissing statue and try to figure out how to pose with it! That, plus a backdrop of the enormous aircraft carrier were great for sitting about half an hour and enjoying an ice cold can of Coke from a vendor on a rather warm day. If that's not your thing, just go watch the harbor life - and overhead, as there are always things flying over! - or just relax on the grass. Something for everyone here!

Great area to walk to after visiting the USS Midway Museum. There are statues and memorials dedicated, the famous statue (Unconditional Surrender), areas to sit back and relax, walk or jog, etc. Be careful for the people on scooters or bikes. Kick back and relax out here. Snap some photos. Enjoy the scenery and vendors out here.

Right next the midway (that giant boat on the right). It is a park with cool sculptures, all dedicated to service members. The bathroom is super weird! All the stalls are doorless and the toilets are metal.. this is how I think toilets are in jail.. definitely visit but use the restroom elsewhere!

Embracing Peace statue right beside the USS Midway

Right beside the towering and imposing USS Midway, you will find a familiar scene... though you've probably only seen it in pictures during Remembrance Day. There is a super large statues of the most iconic picture signifying the celebrations for the war's end, you have the kiss between a sailor and a nurse. The statue must be at least 3 to 4 stories tall and it's often surrounded by tourist groups so good luck getting a good shot but it's possible. The park itself is quite clean and open. You do have a lot of people nearby selling random trinkets or snacks. They don't bother you. The unfortunate homeless though do approach and ask for money. Most are respectful but just be aware of your surroundings. It's a cute park with two unique enormous pieces to the moving parts of a war story ... the view of the USS Midway as a key warship and the kiss marking the start of peace.

Tuna harbor has many vendors, many selling their own art along the embarcadero along side the USS Midway. Whether you're buying a photo name, a caricature, an original painting, jewelry or even a mask, there is something for everyone.

Great little park next to the USS Midway...lots of memorials dedicated to the Greatest Generation.

We paid for parking right in front of the Spanish Art Village and paid $10 for 4 hours. Spanish Art Village was beautiful. If you buy something, it goes directly to the artist whose studio you're in. The artists were sitting quietly and would talk to you about their art pieces and tell you a little about themselves. Everything in there was so cool. I was especially intrigued by the artist in Studio 21, he had these incredible three part paintings he does by hand and I've never felt so much emotion before by an art piece. I really wish I had the money for them because I really would've taken them home with me ;( The botanical building was stunning, it wasn't as big as I thought it would be but definitely beautiful! We also ended up visiting the Timken Art museum and the PostSecrets and Cannibalism exhibits within the last 15 minutes of them being open. Wish we got there earlier so we didn't have to speed through them, but staff was still really nice and everything was so interesting to look at! We went to Panama 66 for a quick drink and bite afterward. We didn't even get to explore the rest of it because the entire park is so expansive, but we will definitely be coming back to visit the rest. It's definitely a must for tourists, but I just know I'd be here every day lying in the grass and reading if I lived here!

Our driver was nice enough to give us a short tour on the way, which was a nice touch. We ended up seeing the Botanical Building and lily pond area, and both were lovely and picturesque. I honestly felt like I was in Europe with the architecture of the buildings. Next, we made our way to the Spanish Village Art Center, and it felt like I had stepped into a movie set, very surreal and colorful. I would highly recommend Balboa Park for any first-time visitors to San Diego!

Lately, with temperatures 10 to 19° above "normal average" - or maybe it's just the new normal - it's hard to recall the last time we got to experience a cool day. But here, the way the gazebos, tables, and benches are set up reflects a pretty severe case of denial that this is Southern California, and not quite within walking distance from the beach. It WILL get hot whenever it damn pleases, with or without notice. It did so in February already, in case you missed it. We came a few times for the farmers market. Both days were unfortunately " 80°F" her weather report, which in reality feels like 92°F, and we had to scramble to find a little bit of shade, so that we could eat our street food without passing out from heat stroke. We huddled awkwardly on the curb under a small tree. Other people passing by with food in their hands looked at us with envy. NOT A SINGLE PERSON sat on the readily available benches with tables, because they were in the blazing sun, yet lacked any shade. Never mind an umbrella, not even holes to put one in!! Denial much?? It's really sad, because it's a beautiful place. It just DESPERATELY needs more shade for the visitors to feel comfortable without clinging to trees or the bathroom walls.
