Was staying in the area and I always look for record shops. This one popped up so I went to check it out. I wasn't expecting much cause it's also a boutique, so I figured it probably has the same old stuff you see at every other boutique. I wasn't expecting to walk into the back of the store to find a whole room full of records. Not only were there records throughout the room but they were all organized, labeled and even sections for heavy metal, rock, jazz, blues etc. I was able to go to sections and look for stuff without shuffling through things I'm not into. They have a good range of original records as well as newer records. Prices are decent as well. They also have another smaller room with CDs and cassettes, as well as a smaller section with some box sets. I probably spent about a half hour to 45 minutes just going through everything to see what I could find. I did grab some records and CDs. I will definitely stop by again if I'm in the area. Also I see a lot of reviews of the staff/owners being rude but that definitely did not happen in my visit. They greeted me when I walked in, asked if I needed help or was looking for anything and were very nice in general. read more

This is very cool hippie shop with candles, hippie clothes, albums, cds, tee shirts, jewelry, perfumes, etc. Their prices are reasonable. Tons of record albums in the back room. Some rare stuff. It's a fun place to shop. read more

Only reviewing the record store part. They used to be kind of unorganized and fair/cheap prices but now it's super organized and bigger selection but the prices are like online plus 10%+ for new stuff and double/triple used market prices for a lot of stuff (ebay/discogs). I will not subject my friends and family of teens to going into a store pre- judged as potential thieves. If the store owners judge everyone as a thief then put the money into a detector to walk through as customers leave. Or just learn to treat people and believe them to be honest. I've been followed in establishments just because my boyfriend was black or I am with a friend of color. My daughter is brown. She's driving to Niantic today to find a dress for a party. Warning, do not even think of going to this store unless you have time to spare. I was in the area for work and found this little gem. Thank you google (record store near me!!) The front two portions are very hippie/hemp themed (ok, I'm old, think the dead). Lots of tie dye clothing incense jewelry etc. The next section is their CD section. Hundreds and hundreds of CDs all arranged alphabetically. And finally, the showpiece in my opinion, the record room. If the cd room had hundreds and hundreds, the record room has thousands and thousands of records. New and used. Easily 15-20k records. And they are all arranged alphabetically!! Really! I went through row after row after row and did not see one album in the wrong part of the bin. I was astonished at how well they keep up and customers don't mess it up by putting records back where they don't belong. Every album is priced so there is no guessing or waiting at the register while they look it up. Every album is graded. And to be honest, graded a little on the hard side. (Again, my opinion). Pricing was more than fair and the clerk did come back after I was there for awhile and tell me about a sale which only made my stack grow even bigger. I found a nice sized amount of lps to add to my collection. At checkout I was talking to the clerk who turned out was the owner about what a great and eclectic store she has. I'm about 4-4.5 hours away and the store is cool enough that I am already planning a return trip with my daughter. She'll love the first three sections and I can get lost in the back again. Over the summer I visited this establishment with a good friend of mine and was falsely accused of stealing a necklace without being shown any evidence. The issue was resolved quickly but it left a sour taste in my mouth that was exacerbated by the apology that was given to my friend, as seen in the included picture. My issue is not with being accused of stealing, as stated in the response it is within the store's rights to confront those who are suspected of shoplifting. The issue is with how the employees handled the situation and now this unhelpful response framed as an "apology". After being accused of stealing I immediately offered to provide evidence of my purchase but was told that there was "video evidence of you taking off the necklace and putting it back on". I was never shown that video proof but I was threatened to have the police called on me even after I offered the evidence. I am dissatisfied with the stores response because it frames the issue merely as being that I was accused of stealing, when in fact the issue is the constant disrespect and outrageous attitude of the store that is continued in this lackluster apology. I am well within my rights to press charges for harassment, and had the police been called that day I would have. I have no intention of pressing charges now, but I will say, I was lectured by the owner on the concept of karma and that her confronting me was somehow my "karma". From what I know karma is not something you yourself produce but is rather your own actions being returned to you in one way or another. You do not create your own karma. But I do truly hope you receive the karma you deserve from this situation. read more

In the back of the store there is a big room with a huge variety of records and all neatly organized by artist which is very helpful. On the records there's a sticker where the price is and it tells you if it's good, very good, close to mint, or mint condition. There is also a sheet on the wall and it tells you want that means. (If it has scratches, skips or is in perfect condition). I also like how they clean each and every record before putting it out for the public. There is a turn table and you can see if you like the music on the record which is nice. This was my 1st time record shopping and I was very pleased. The man in there was very kind and informative about the records. It's a little pricey but you get what you pay for and the records there are very nice. I will definitely be back there soon. read more

I've been to this unique store four or five times. I'm not a record collector, so I'm not qualified to comment on that aspect of the business. But the clothing! The jewelry! If you like festival/boho style, unique, handcrafted accessories, you'll be in heaven! I wish I lived closer! read more

I enjoyed the record department they have a very large selection of used records and some new records for record store day they are a bit pricey but at least you might be able to find what you're looking for there. they have a large selection of reasonably priced CDs too. Once you make your way past all of the hemp and tie dye in the front of the store you'll find yourself in a big room full of records in the back. Selection and prices were solid, and there's a good amount of new Cd's, and a smattering of cassettes as well. Decently organized. Service was just ok. Would highly recommend to record collectors, or those who need the perfect getup for the next Rainbow Gathering. Located just across the street is the charming and delicious Cafe Sol. Add a stop at the Book Barn, and this is a nice little journey. read more

This is one of the worst record stores I've ever visited. The staff has such an attitude, and they were incredibly RUDE to my friend. They threatened her and accused her of stealing with absolutely no proof. It was judgmental, uncalled for, and just plain mean. They tried to coerce and intimidate her, threatening to contact the authorities if she didn't give them more money. After my friend proved she had stolen nothing, they continued to treat her poorly and didn't apologize. So arrogant and awful. Please support alternatives like Mystic Disc in Mystic and The Telegraph in New London. read more

My friend really loves this shop and thought I would love it, so we got a ride there and looked around for a bit. the staff was literally right behind us the whole time not asking if we needed help or anything just watching us. then when my friend went to pay they asked if she was going to pay for the necklace she was wearing, which she had already bought a while ago and said she had proof of the purchase. the owner of the store started really over reacting and said she had video proof of us stealing the necklace and she offered to pull it up and I said yeah sure bc it didn't happen and she was FUMING, even though all I did was say I would like to see the video. she didn't show us any video and threatened to call the cops. I said go for it, but she didn't and just randomly typed things in her computer. my friend showed proof of purchase and the lady was still so incredibly rude. literally was saying my attitude is "raising suspicion" and that I was getting bad karma (but I literally didn't do anything I don't think she knows what karma is) and I don't understand how someone can just have the complete confidence to randomly accuse teenagers of stealing and continue to be rude after we showed proof of purchase. definitely not kind service like at all lol wtf. u definitely lost my friend as a customer and she was very loyal to u guys. she also assumed that me and my friend were dating, and got defensive when we said we actually are not. the way we were treated is absolutely disgusting. Had the pleasure of visiting Tumbleweeds for the first time today. A moderately sized eclectic shop with genuinely kind staff members and a wide variety of goods to choose from. I was very happy to go home with a fair trade purse that is funky and unique. The record selection is extensive, and I look forward to returning in the near future. Tumbleweeds is a nice little shop located downtown in Niantic. I go there solely to buy records so I have never inspected the other items for sale in the front part of the shop. However, the records, located in the back of the store, are decent in quantity. They're very well organized, with a large selection. My only complaint is that I so wish the price tags weren't placed directly on the album covers themselves...considering the albums are priced according to grade...and removing said price labels devalues the covers slightly--not only are they difficult to remove without ruining the covers, the marker used to write the prices on the label bleeds through onto the cover. But if you can get past this very minor issue, Tumbleweeds is worth checking out! read more

Nice little shop in downtown Niantic. I bought a matching dress with my mother with anchors all over it and the quality was lovely and the price was very reasonable. I also purchased a pair of heart shaped sunglasses for $8 (so a bargain!) They broke within the next few hours (the little nose cushion came off and was lost). The returned the next day since we were walking by and they were happy to let me switch them out for another pair. They showed me the pairs not displayed too to chose from. I visit Niantic twice a year and will always stop in and grab some cute gifts, a new glass piece or a treat for myself. Staff is sweet and friendly as well! read more

Any store which carries a fairly extensive selection of vinyl records is tops in my book. Recommended for vinyl fetishists like myself.

Visit Niantic regularly, and always stop @ Tumbelweeds in search of hard to find music. Never disappointed. Staff is friendly, earthy and if you need something, they will find it for you! Reasonable prices and clothing (to keep my wife busy) is an added benefit. If you're in Niantic a must visit. read more
