One of my recommended must-try Mexican restaurants in San Diego. Although located in Mira Mesa, this place has gotten popular and busy over the last year and big families like to come here for gatherings! Big portion sizes (the tacos are PACKED), the seafood tastes fresh and delicious, and menu is LARGE so there's a variety of options to choose from! Seating is more limited inside but there is some outdoor seating (pretty cute around sunset). My favorite thing to get at Tulum are the mar y tierra papas fritas aka surf and turf fries. Despite being a seafood place, their carne asada is pretty good. I also enjoy their ceviche. The tacos are good but they're so filled that it's actually kind of hard to eat as they fall apart easily. But they are very delicious. I've seen a few people order the whole snapper so that's on my list to try. The esquite is delicious but very pricey for what it is. I love this place, overtime that I have been there always ordered their fantastic fish Taco. Tonight as I parked, I saw signs for soup. I ordered 7 Mares soup, with Tax $27 and change. The tortillas have mold on them. I made sure to call them and tell them know. They tried to say it was from the cabbage but nope, I noticed the cabbage stains on the tortillas, but there were other green spots that were mold. And it also was not from the cilantro in the pico de gallo. Cilantro does not stain that way. I make pico de gallo very often and put it on tacos, it never stains. Throw out the moldy tortillas! There was a blackout in parts of Mira Mesa so I can't get fried fish. I went here because I heard they have fried fish. It turns out, it's really good and a tad cheaper than El viejon. We tried the fried red snapper and ordered it extra crispy. It came with rice, beans and some veggies. It tastes so fresh. The other food we got there is also really good, like the birria, taquitos, bacon wrapped shrimp. Ask for the mango salsa, it's really good too and the staff are always nice and friendly. So ate here on a recent trip to SD after my brother said this place wasn't bad. It doesn't compare to Oscar's honestly. I got the rolled marlin tacos and eh, I didn't care for it so much. I find when proteins are stuffed into a rolled taco, the flavor becomes quite indiscriminate - it could be chicken, it could be beef or in this case, it could be neither! ‍I actually enjoyed the sour cream and guac on top more! The ceviche (we got the shrimp and pulpo) too wasn't bad, but not as good as Oscar's. The pulpo was nice and tender though, but I don't particularly care for cucumbers in my ceviche. From the looks of it, the tacos were huge, literally double the filling in one taco (with double tortilla, so literally you can make TWO tacos out of one). read more

They do offer a lot of selection on their menu especially Seafood. They also have a drive thru option. We choose to sit inside. We ordered Ceviche de Camaron Cocido (Cooked Shrimp Ceviche) and Camarones al Moho de Ajo (Shrimp in Garlic sauce). We were impressed with the freshness and flavor of these two dishes. At first, she was skeptical--it's in what looks like a converted old car wash, and that just didn't scream "great seafood" to her. But after I showed her the glowing reviews on Yelp and the photos showing how clean and appetizing everything looked, she agreed to give it a shot. We're so glad we did! The food came out quickly and was absolutely delicious. I ordered the shrimp plate (camarones al mojo de ajo), and she got a taco with a side of esquite (Mexican street corn). That corn was amazing--so much so that I took some home to my mom since you just don't find it up north as often. These are not street size tacos - they are huge! I didn't realize that and initially ordered 3. When I saw my friend's taco, I quickly asked the staff to remove one of mine and they kindly obliged. So I ended up with a fried fish taco and a smoked tuna taco. The fried fish was really good and the avocado was the perfect ripeness. I was a little stunned going in when I saw the tacos were $7.50 but they are actually some of the biggest tacos I've had. I ordered 3 tacos, but split half of one with a friend who had the taquitos because I definitely wouldn't have been able to finish all 3. I had the shrimp, marlin, and fish tacos and they were all great! My friend had the marlin taquitos and enjoyed those too. I was surprised by the quality of food at this place! My family and I stopped by to eat in on a Friday night. The inside is small with just counter seating, but they have a nice patio with lots of tables if you want to sit outside. They also have a drive through. The shop itself if very clean and they have tvs on. Also a small salsa station in the corner. We ordered their Marlin taquitos, fish tacos, carne asada fries, and gobernador taco. It took a while for them to bring the food out, but it was so fresh and very large portions! The tacos are easily the size of 2-3 tacos you'd get at a different restaurant. Based on my 1st visit and what I ordered 3.5 stars. The Marlin taquitos is what I really wanted to try and I thought they were ok. I prefer smoked marlin. The portion is huge and they are heavy handed with the guacamole, and sour cream. A little too heavy for my liking. Non the less they were good. I also got a grilled fish taco. Thank God! Finally a great Mexican seafood place near by. Since 2017, we have been driving all the way to El Cajon Blvd from Miramesa for good seafood tacos. There are some other Mariscos places in the Miramesa area, unfortunately they are all just decent. This place is great! The marlin tacos are outstanding! The smoked marlin is cut up into small chunks and it has just the right fishy smoky flavor for a seafood taco. They go great with their salsa. The salsa bar has a bunch of different kinds to meet whatever you spice level is. The marlin taquitos are delicious too. Super crispy and covered in cream, cotija cheese, and that killer sauce on the bottom. Everything works super well with the smokey fish flavor. The shrimp ceviche is pretty good. Nice lime and shrimpy flavor. The zarandeado tacos are also outstanding. It's the best grilled fish taco I have tasted in a very long time. The zarandeado sauce is basically a Mexican spicy mayo that goes great with the fish taste. It's a good amount of fish, even though you can't tell because they pile on the toppings. Way better than just a plan grilled fish taco in other restaurants. The Pulpo (octopus) enamorado taco was good. The octopus was tasty but not as soft as I have had at a Mariscos truck down south. I've ordered delivery from this place a lot, and the food is really good. I've had the marlin taquitos and the mar y tierra papas fritas, and they're both delicious. The mar y tierra papas fritas I'd especially recommend if you have an appetite, because the amount of food they give you is ridiculous. It is kind of expensive, currently $18 on doordash, but you'll probably have enough food left over for another meal. The primary downside is its unfortunate location. The parking lot is tiny and all of the spaces are angled to favor getting into the space from the street... but then when you get out of the space, you're either going to have to somehow manage like a U-turn in a very tiny space, or you're going to have to try to sneak through the drive-thru... which I can't recommend if you've got hot food that you just picked up, 'cause then you can be stuck behind someone who ordered at the drive thru, and it's more than a little annoying waiting for someone else to get their order when yours is cooling in your lap. that's why I just order delivery. I'd give it 4.5 out of 5 if i could, just -1/2 a star for the parking lot, everything else is great. P.S.: oh, one thing I would note: one of my friends doesn't like sour cream, and they seem to put it on a lot of their food, so if you're not a fan be sure to check before you place your order. Personally I like it on their food, I think it's a good contrast to their spicy salsa and it goes well with the guacamole, but my friend really doesn't like it so I figured I should mention it, just in case. read more

Ate here with a coworker. We shared 2 bacon wrapped shrimp tacos, surf and turf fries, and 2 fish tacos. The fish tacos were SO GOOD, I wish we had just gotten multiple of that. Comes with two tortilla so I made it into two tacos since there's plenty of fish in it. The carne asada was a little dry/tough and the bacon on the shrimp tasted burnt so it was not enjoyable. The tacos are huge and they give a lot of avocado with it. I like how the salsa bar is fully covered and via dispensers. There's Serrano Lime (thinner, green) and Quemada (thicker, smoky, red). The Quemada was my fave. The cashier was friendly and service was quick. Inside is clean and bright with limited seating. The food I had here was great! I had somewhat of a rocky start here though- when we first walked in, no one greeted us for about 5-8 minutes. My friend and I waited a while, and we started to wonder if they were only taking drive-thru orders. The person who took our order was quick and helpful. The fish taco- it was HUGE! it had two large pieces of battered fish, a chipotle sauce, cabbage, and lots of diced tomatoes. It included slices of fresh avocado too. It was delicious! This was my favorite dish. The ceviche de pescado- was also wonderful. I opted for the tostada instead of the bowl because the pictures of the tostada looked like a large portion already. It's a small Seafood Shop with most of its seating outside on the front patio. No Tables. Only Counter Top seating inside and out.o. No Table Service so you order at the front Counter and pick it up when it's ready. Parking can be tight as it's a small lot. I've been told they get buddy in the evening so I recommend coming early. They have a nice selection on the menu with many great things to try. The staff was very nice and helpful. First I must tell you The Tacos Are Huge. They double the size with two tortillas to make them Larger and don't skimp filling them up. Takes two hands to handle these, better yet a Knife and Fork would be better. . This also explains the higher than normal price per Taco. I ordered as usual far more than I could eat not knowing how big they were. I wondered why the lady at the counter was smiling so much when she took my order. First Taco I tried was The Huevo Mexicano Taco. A full Mexican Breakfast in a Taco. Lot of eggs, Bell Peppers, Onions and homemade Beens. It was a great breakfast Taco In SD. Next I had The Marlin Taquitos. I've never had a fish Taquito before. It was very good and I will have them again sometime. They don't skimp on The Sour Cream, Mexican Cheese and Guacamole. Then I had The Fish Taco. Another large Stuffed Crispy Fried Fish Taco. I Liked it. Not my favorite but better than most I've had in SD. Finally I had The QuesaBirria Taco. Im a Birria Connoisseur and have yet found anywhere that comes close to my Birria for that Deep Rich Authentic Birria flavor. I will confess this place is doing it pretty damn good. That definitely over stuff this taco with a large amount of Birria de Rez. Forget all about the Consommé. . Didn't even get to try it. Next time for sure.
