He is good about following up with a call and checking on you if necessary. But what I appreciate most about Dr. Austin, was his kind, gentle, and respectful way of treating and caring for my daughter when she was a kid and teen. I unknowingly paid more than my allowable amount when I had the procedure done. When I finally received the itemized bill from my insurance I was also blessed with ANOTHER bill from Dental Group of Amarillo wanting even MORE money !! The charges that this group send out are absolutely a rip off to all of the Amarillo community. No procedure should cost as much as they want to charge. I ended up spending time on the phone with my insurance carrier and they informed me since this group is in network they can NOT charge me more than the allowed amount and they sent me a fraud/grievance report to fill out. I ended up calling the dental office and I had to explain that they couldn't bill me this ridiculous amount and they ended up stating they would talk to their billing department. They acted Shocked and stunned and said " I guess we missed that allowable amount, let me talk to our billing department ". Once they called me back, I was credited for overpaying and told to throw away the new additional bill that they surprised me with. I will never use the dental group again. They also used a product that my insurance doesn't cover knowing that they could bill more for it without telling me this prior to the procedure. This is the most shady money grubbing dental group I've ever seen. If I had not paid attention to the bill and not called both my insurance and this dental group to explain to them they overcharged me and shouldn't be billing me more they would have gotten away with it and no one would have been the wiser. There is no telling how many people they have ripped off in our community.

He was very friendly and made my child comfortable. However, I recently went and wasn't exactly pleased. I have very bad jaw pain and I explained this to the receptionist. She explained that they would refer out for TMJD, but that the doctor could give me medicine until then. I was nervous about going in the first place because I knew that my jaw would be hurting. I had them ask the doctor if I could take pain medication prior to that appointment. I took my medicine as instructed, waited quite a while before being called back. Then a lady did my X-rays. Then, I'm just sitting in the chair ......forever..... I asked the lady if they would be doing the cleaning today? (Which really needed to be done since it had been over 4 years since I've been to the dentist.) She replies, yes he's coming, it's just that we only have one dentist today. I have never had a dentist do the cleaning, it's usually the hygienist/ the one that did the X-ray. I'm thinking, so who was the lady that did my x rays, is she not a hygienist? Then the dentist finally gets to me, looks in my mouth quickly and says, well, no cavities. Then he starts cleaning them, which I figured would take a while since it's been so long. He may have been in there 2 min. Then says alright, that's it. I asked if he was going to floss my teeth. Replies, "yes, we can, but we already passed the other tool that gets it all." Then I asked, "well can you polish them?" Then he does that. It just felt like I had to ask for services that I have paid for. Then I asked about TMJD options. He gives me a referral. I asked if he could write a prescription for something until then. He says no. Then I asked about Botox injections to treat TMJD, which is sometimes used for that. He explains that Botox, tightens wrinkles, so it would be tightening the muscle too.. ummm but that isn't how Botox works, but ok. When I got home, my teeth really still didn't feel clean at all. I wouldn't recommend this dentist. Yes, it was cheaper than any other place I've ever been. Yes, we are currently dealing with COVID-19, but I expected more out of this appointment. I guess you get what you pay for. :(
