I have been attending this event since 2007, even though I no longer live in Tucson.. every year I rent a hotel room and ride the train to downtown Tucson to eat, watch the performers, shop the booths and people watch. I've taken my kids when they were little and now my bf joins me. I've seen this event move around the downtown Tucson area.. I've found a lot of my favorite food vendors and some new ones each year. Thai, polish, Mexican, Russian, Peruvian, Puerto Rican, Laos, Philippines, Jamaican .. soo much variety! On my recent visit we had Thai food, jerk chicken, veggie samosas, pierogi, potato pancakes with applesauce, beef empanadas, and guava pie while enjoying the perfect weather on a Friday night. On Saturday we had takoyaki, gyoza, agua de sandia, cherry shaved ice, Thai chicken stick, egg rolls, fried bananas, pad Thai and watched a bunch of performers including the Hawaiian, Aztec & polish dancers and the lion drummer dance. We saw the car show with its collection of low riders with bright paint jobs and murals We shopped the booths where I bought a Day of the Dead tank to support the humane society, chocolate truffles with mezcal, and the cutest little owl.. we picked up free light bulbs and freebies from various vendors What a great weekend!! The sounds, the people, the smells.. I can't wait to see you again next year!

This was my first year and it won't be my last! From the music to the vendors to the performances....we were in heaven. First let me say I'm so happy they kept going rain or shine. Saturday it rained most of the day. But I was determined to experience what other natives call Tucson Eat Yourself. I bought an umbrella just to enjoy. Food: First place we hit was the Venezuelan food truck. Those arepas were worth going out! Throughout the day we experienced the food of Japan, Columbia, Tohono O'odham Nation, Greece, and one other amazing place I missed the name of. Sunday, my brother in law loves the Bosnian food. He and my sister reported they enjoyed their day. Vendors: We purchased alcohol, chocolate, honey, and prickly pear juice. It was nice to enjoy local products. Side note: I wish I memorized business names. I won't lie I was amazed yet overwhelmed by all of the things to see and enjoy. We went back on Sunday but it was packed with people. Which was overwhelming. This was a great event for all. We brought the baby on Sunday and she laughed and cheered at the shows. People brought there pets and were respectful of cleanliness. I can't wait for next year.

Just started and the lines are already forming.

What's not to love? Food, food, food! And, you get to meet people, learn about other cultures, and listen to great music. One of Tucson's great events. Enjoy everything!!

Great Annual Tucson Event. Food from everywhere. Lots of people having a good time. Come early to find parking. We had Gyros but there's a food truck serving Guam food and there's Turkish ice cream.

Good food, good music, good people! MORE EATING TABLES PLEASE!! (and more napkins from vendors with menus offering messier food items) ...sorry about all the oxtail stew & indian taco juice and frybread honey that got all over everywhere! With all the great food, could have used some refreshing (local) beer! lol @ "tucson eat yourself" ...thankfully there were no cannibals or zombies present.

The famous Zen Dog. My favorite!

Been in Tucson for about 5 years now, and I've totally been missing out! Can't believe I have never been to one of these festivals! We could not take it all in on one night, so we had to come back the next day to check out the rest of the food that we missed, and even then, my stomach could not get enough! =) What an amazing combination of cultures all in one place! We enjoyed Indian, Greek, Filipino, Danish, Turkish, Singapore, Thai, & Mexican cuisine! A bunch of different restaurants or food trucks around town all in one place! I wanted to sample everything! Here are some of the foods I really liked: Zen Dog & BBQ Pork Buns-T.C.A. Kitchen Philly Style Roast Pork sandwich-Frankie's(cheesesteak place) Ableskiver & Kringle-Danish Club of Tucson Bhelpuri-(can't remember which Indian booth) Pepperkaka(ginger cookie)-Swedish booth Turon & Pancit-Filipino American Sampaguita Club Hainanese Chicken w/Jasmine rice-Indonesia & Singapore booth Turkish ice cream & coffee-Turkish booth Roasted corn...Always a hit for me. Lol. What I also enjoyed was the entertainment. Live music, singers, and traditional folk dances from these different countries were very entertaining. The Turkish arts & craft booth was cool too. I really liked their style of painting. I admit, if I wasn't so busy on Sunday, I would've gone again! Lol. Absolutely loved the TMY. Will definitely make it a tradition to come back every year from now on. =)

Fun event although I didn't walk around to all the venues because I had 2 elderly gentlemen with me (who cant walk far distances). We had a good time though! We ate indian tacos for dinner...which was indian fried bread topped with beans, ground beef, tomatoes. Only @ Tucson Meet Yourself can you find the marriage of these two foods :). There was a band stand set up and people of all ages getting silly to the music. It was nice to see people out and about, cruising to the music, hanging out in the streets, and enjoying the company of each other.

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tucson has it going on and knows how to throw an event! If this was Michigan, you would have to pay 15-20 bucks to park, food would be 5-15 bucks, entrance at least 5-25, crowds that you can not move through and lines for hours....but not here!!!!!!!!!!! Most food items were about 2-3 dollars and entrance was a suggested donation of a dollar-make me wanna holla! I beelined it to the Thai temple for 1 dollar fried bananas, 1 dollar Thai Tea, and 2 dollar satay....I chatted it up with the monks, telling them about my beloved MBMC Sunday Thai Market in Michigan (you should know, I have a big soft spot for Thai street food) and how I was super curious about the Sunday buffets at the temple. Super welcoming and friendly. I then had my favorite dish of the day at Sultans, seriously, how cruel is this world...you offer me one of the tastiest things I have ever put in my mouth, only to let me Yelp my way into finding out that this gem is closed....so I must wait until next year?! Anyway, try Afghan food, it is spectacular! The bulani (think naan stuffed with potatoes) topped with a citrus herbacious sauce....I am like a zombie in need of brains, instead I need bulani. I also had the 2 dollar for 3 potato pancakes from Amber which was served with apple sauce and sour cream....I lived in deutschland and these were spot on! Then I got FREE henna! Free arts and crafts, like Ukrainian eggs, water marbling, Japanese fiber arts (which I think I might sign up for a class)... Like kids in native garb abound, men doing some sort of karate like they were fresh out of the dojo, bag pipers in full kilt.... No obnoxious crowds, sunny day (isn't every day here)....it was truly a AMAZING event!!!!

Tucson Meet Yourself, now coined Tucson "eat" Yourself really is an incredible festival celebrating the different cultures and traditions that make Tucson so special. I've attended TMY both as a visitor and as a participant and both experiences have been awesome. It's amazing to see how many people come out for this event. This three day festival continues to expand every year and is spread across downtown Tucson. If you've never been, you MUST go next year. Why should you go? It's free to attend and it's an opportunity to taste food (not free) and see performances and shows that most normally won't experience. Places like the Turkish Cultural center, Chinese Cultural Center, Greek, Afghan, Polish, French, Thai, Vietnamese, Brazilian, Columbian and more come out just this one time to share their amazing cuisine and traditions with the rest of Tucson. The food is so incredible all of these cultural centers should have their own restaurants! In addition to crazy good food the live music is phenomenal! Everything from Cuban Salsa, to Mexican Mariachi, Capoeira and more. The Tucson lowrider club even comes out to display their cars. And this year the festival partnered with the AIDSWALK. Already looking forward to next year! Still craving those Turkish doners and gourmet Chinese Hotdogs.

There was a free movie being projected on the side of a building at one end, near the firetruck. There were belly dancers at the other end, near the food vendors. The problem was... there just wasn't much in between. I hope they cont. to have the fire trucks... the kids loved it. And on that note, I'd like to apologize for my friend cutting in front of all the parents and kids who were waiting for their turn in the firetruck. He didn't see the line and I was way in the back, wondering where he went! lol I think he cut in line anyway... or else how did he get up there so fast?! It's still something cool and free to do on a lazy Sat night, if you're in the area. Might see ya there... if I lived in Tuscon.

This event is just that good! The entertainment is awesome! Sometimes at events, you have to wonder why certain entertainers were invited because they don't fit with the vibe. This was not the case at the bunch of 2nd Saturdays we've been to. The various entertainment matches the vibe of Tucson perfectly! The music is loud enough so you can hear it from the stage to the eating area, which is great so you can enjoy it while you eat. I love the vendors that line the streets, selling cool, often handmade, items that you don't see in stores every day. Lots of cool stuff to look at and buy, and a lot of it can make great gifts. And I just love that the Pima County Library brings their book truck there sometimes, and they give away free books! It's always a good thing to get books in the hands of the community. The selection of food trucks and vendors at 2nd Saturdays is pretty decent. So good, in fact, that we never eat from just one place. We tend to try as much stuff as our bellies can hold, and we don't regret it one bit because most of the food is really delicious! I'd love to see maybe a couple more places join up, there seems to be room down one of the streets, but that's just me being greedy to try more food. Overall, we really love 2nd Saturdays Downtown, and we will keep planning our 2nd Saturdays around this awesome Tucson event!

Red tickets were for little sample shots of all things agave, Yellow tickets were for mixed drinks/cocktails at the mini Congress bar, and orange tickets were good for 2 tacos (shredded pork or steak). I thoroughly enjoyed 2/3 of Hotel congress's cocktails. One was almost like a pisco sour, the 2nd was a spicy salt rimmed watermelon tequila drink and the 3rd was my least favorite.. it literally tasted like lemon juice and tequila. It was so much fun going throughout the whole festival sampling and learning about the different tequilas and mezcals. Event started at 6.. but the taco line was long so we ended up eating at hotel congress at 6 before we began drinking. Towards 8:15 I would say the taco line started to become non-existent and thats when I decided it would be a good time to get me more food. Options were steak or shredded pork, and there were a good amount of choices at the salsa bar including Nopales! This was literally one of the best events ever, and I can't wait for next year, oh and props for the nicest shot glass ever that was given out towards the end of the festival. Best useful souvenor ever.

My 300th review!!! Yay!!!…read more The Agave Fest is one of those things that I love about Tucson. It was a beautiful evening and the atmosphere was perfect. We were able to try all of the cocktails being presented by the different bartenders from around town. All of them were unique and interesting. And though Elliot's won (congrats) my personal favorite was from Penca. In addition to the cocktails, there were a ton of different tequilas to taste. Way more than anyone could consume. Well, that's not true you could try :) Hotel congress provided beef and poblano street tacos, chips and a massive salsa bar. I enjoyed the salsa bar, and the tacos were not bad. Unfortunately the line to get them got really long. It may be a good idea to have to areas to serve tacos next year. The live music and the DJ were really nice and after that much tequila, a lot more people started dancing, Overall a really fun event and night out in Tucson. I definitely recommend this event for anyone looking for something fun downtown.
