I resisted going to Community Acupuncture because I wasn't pleased with my one previous experience getting acupuncture in a group setting. But I really needed a treatment, my regular acupuncturist was ill and unable to see clients, and I decided to try it. I don't love being in a room with up to ten other people while I get a treatment, but the trade-off is the price. It's so affordable. The practitioners are very skilled, and you can get an excellent treatment for a fraction of what it would cost elsewhere. It's a great way to try acupuncture and see if you like it. And yes, you have to wear a mask, even in 2025. Covid is not the only illness to worry about. It's another trade-off. There are worse things that having some confidence a treatment for your health won't make you ill. read more

I love coming to TCA. I explored acupuncture as a means to manage some ongoing pain & anxiety, and for me, it has been incredibly beneficial. 45-minutes to an hour, just for me to relax in a warm comfy recliner, listen to soothing music, and do something nice for myself - worth it. The needles themselves are small and gentle (most of them I barely feel), and Melissa has been so kind and easy to work with; I feel very comfortable with her. The feeling the treatment provides is different for everyone, I'm sure - but for me, it is equal parts relaxing as it is invigorating. And because TCA is so affordable, I can see me using acupuncture for a while to come. I would highly recommend TCA to friends and family, and I've already got my next appointment on the books. I've been here about a dozen times and I love it. I recommend Keith or Larry who seem the most popular. I was able to have a private conversation with them to discuss my personal issues and ask questions about the treatment. It's a community setting so you're most likely to be sitting with many others. Considering you're being poked with lots of needles, it's really very relaxing! The chairs are comfy and the music soothing and most folks fall asleep. I can only afford $15 and am excited I can get the treatments for this price. I did have some pain with a needle that was put in my hand. It hurt for days after. But I told them when I went back and it didn't happen again. I found relief from neck pain, hot flashes, migraines and allergies. The relief is temporary overall. I still suffer from these complaints, but not as often. My elderly mother has joined me and found relief for her arthritis pain. That also was temporary. Yesterday, I paid to have somebody put needles in my skin. And I loved it. While skeptical at first to attempt acupuncture for the first time, I figured it hasn't survived thousands of years of Chinese history for nothing...so I booked an appointment at Tucson Community Acupuncture. I love places that have easy booking, and you can schedule your appointments online at their website. My acupuncturist, Josh, took the time to listen to my health concerns, and after picking out a comfy recliner to sit in, he started to put the needles. I couldn't feel any of them being put in except for the one in one sinus area (I was there to help fight a sinus infection.) Even then, no biggie. Then they cover you with a blanket if you choose, and you...relax for 45 min. When is the last time you just relaxed without texting/talking/watching tv? Overall, it was an interesting feeling which felt like little tingles in parts of my body, then almost a wave of relaxation. There is a reason why some people snore during this, hehe...it works. The prices are unbelievable...you truly pay what you can afford. The best way I can sum up how much I enjoyed this experience? I'm going again tomorrow. read more

Acupuncture virgin! This place is amazing, every employee was so down to earth, caring and completely understood pain. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia 2 years ago and don't use pain medications or medicine for the chronic pain due to bad side effects with medications. In all the books I read acupuncture has been used for centuries to relieve painful ailments. I booked my appointment with Michele Smith, she was very professional, caring and gentle. My appointment was 30 dollars total and that's with the 1st time visitors fee ($10). The entire session lasted 1 hour. This place is great. Have had a chronic shoulder pain for 6 months and a not in my neck for years. Three sessions and my shoulder doesn't hurt. Amazing actually. Neck has more rotation too. I'm sold. I have a brain injury where I get terrible migraines, along with neck & back pain. I can't take pain pills or the other medications. I got desperate when I moved here, because I had bad luck with a few chiropractors. I found TCA and wish I had tried this years ago. Oh my stars am I happy I stumbled upon this place. My friend found a flyer advertising a 5 hour window of free treatments so we stopped by today. I was so impressed, we got a full 40 minute service despite the place being rather packed. You are sat in a large-ish room with other guests in a comfy armchair, and after the needles are in place are left to relax for about half an hour. I must say being treated in a room with lots of other people seemed odd at first, but the other guests were mostly considerate and quiet and I could relax fully. I have visited many different acupuncture clinics over the years. Tuscon Community Acupuncture ranks among my favorites! While in Tuscon for a conference, I received a treatment at TCA. What an oasis this place is! My acupuncturist, Keith, was very gentle with the needles. Although he was absolutely amazing, I saw many blissed out patients being treated by the other practitioners there as well. I have to sadly give these folks a three stars. I was going there for years, and tried to get other people who were experiencing pain to try it out. Finally my wife and I went, and when I left, I felt quite a bit of tenderness in my right hand. Sometimes that happens because the spot is blocked, and when it is opened and the chi flows, it can be a bit painful. So I was patient. . By the next day when I woke up to go TO WORK......my hand was black and blue, swollen, and I could barely move it. Yeah, that was it for this place. Next leg of the journey........I will find some one else. That was CRAZY painful (although I do admit I have slept for three hours in their amazing comfy chairs as I was being treated. If you go here, just go see Britta. She'll take care of you. I guarantee you'll have a good, painless experience. I exclusively see her, so I can't speak for anyone else. I'm not a big believer in acupuncture and its ability to cure physical ailments, but I decided to try it once just to see. What it DOES do for sure is totally chill me out. It's super relaxing. Although you're in a communal room, you get a big comfy chair, zen music, and a cool vibe to just fall asleep or meditate. Britta is also a very calming person to be around, and she actually cares about your well-being. Very kind person. I should also mention that everything is sterile and she opens the needles in front of you, so I was comfortable with that. I always leave with such a sense of calm. It's fast-food acupucture. You get what you pay for--very little individualized service. I notice how they tend to put the needles in the same spots for each patient(this way they can remember where the needles are when it's time to remove them). Did not have a good experience with rude Keith. AND THEY KEPT PLAYING THE SAME MUSIC MONTH AFTER MONTH--IT DROVE ME NUTS!! I gave this review 3 stars, because I had one 5 star visit and one 1 star visit - so this is the average. On May 3, 2013, I had an appointment to see Britta. It was an enjoyable and relaxing experience. She talked to me, took her time telling me what she was doing, check on me periodically during relaxation and then as soon as my relaxation time was up in 45 minutes, she immediately came over and removed the needles. The following week I felt better than I have in years. No anxiety, my blood pressure was reduced to below normal and I didn't have a single hot flash all week long. Britta helped me with all of the things I had listed on my first-time patient form and I was a happy camper. However on May 10, 2013, I had an appointment with Michele and it was a different story. I left the building in tears. While Michele was very kind, she seemed quite rushed when dealing one-on-one with me - which probably took a total of one minute. The whole time I was there, Michele was busy and I was in pain. Since it was only my second time going to acupuncture, I was unaware that I should not have been in pain. Even though I had no pain the first time I came there the prior week, I really was unsure if the pain that I was experiencing was part of the experience or not. And Michele never checked on me in order for me to say anything about my concerns. In fact, I never saw her check on anyone. It was like an acupuncture factory. Since I was unable to relax, due to the pain, I saw that I was not alone. Michele took approximately one minute with each patient, then went to the next one - it was constant. She had no time to talk to people, check on them, make sure that they were comfortable. Not a second. It was slam-bam-thank-you-ma'am quite literally, as those needles felt slammed into me in the rush. And at the end when my relaxation hour was up? No Michele in sight. I had to wait an additional 15 minutes to get those painful needles out. I am sure that Michele is an excellent technician, but today my experience was not pleasant. I left in tears and had a small residue of blood from the needle where one of my locations had been in pain. I rescheduled for next week with Britta, but I would not have done that if my experience with her had been similar to the one I had today. Also, during my May 3rd appointment, I saw the blankets being changed. This time? Not once. I saw one person after another laying on the same blanket the previous person had laid on. That seems quite unhealthy according to health department standards for a medical facility. I do intend to make an inquiry about that to see if I am incorrect in my thinking. read more

This was my first accupuncture experience. I came for severe back pain and neuropathy in my left leg. Like everyone i was afraid of the needles. Well dont waste your time worrying..no pain, i mean none. The room is low light, comfortable recliners, blankets if you would like, soft music and ear plugs if you would like. Intake was thorough, profession experience ( i am a nurse i know thorough). Wonderful, good explanation of suggested treatment plan. Prices are terrific. But the best part..i was able to walk up my stairs when i came home..without pain! First time since i was injured at work jan of 2015!! Wish i had tried this earlier! read more

As a total skeptic, I was nervous my first time here. The first time you go it's $25-35 and at that price, I figured it was worth trying. It was a little freaky watching needles being put into your skin in strange places, but once I got over that, the acupuncturist Josh tells me to "sit and relax for 40 min." 40 MIN?! I wasn't quite sure if I was going to make it, just sitting still in a dim room full of recliners with several others doing the same. This was my first acupuncture experience but the kind practitioners and surroundings here made me feel relaxed and at home. I like that the waiting area and the community treatment space are not overly decorated like a spa nor cold and institutional like a doctors office, just clean, comfortable, and practical. They say acupuncture is something that takes repeated thoughtful treatments to achieve a lasting change or benefit, so I can't comment on overall effectiveness yet, but my one-time experience was definitely therapeutic. I felt a variety of sensations including muscles twitching and releasing after a needle was placed in tense spots and an overall subtle of feeling of relaxation; my friend said it made him overwhelmingly sleepy but rejuvenated after. Keith very warmly and clearly talked me through what issues I was looking to treat and offered suggestions and explanations, and helpfully walked me through my treatment from where to put my belongings to what the needle might feel like to when he would be back to check on me. I especially love that Tucson Community Acupuncture has a sliding scale so this type of care is accessible to more people and encourages multiple visits so you can get the full benefit. read more

I wholeheartedly recommend Tucson Community Acupuncture to anyone who has even a mild interest in acupuncture. The staff are awesome and I love the concept: the idea is to offer acupuncture at a low cost (there's a sliding scale starting at $15) in a community setting. You stay clothed--everything is done in the head, arms/hands, and lower legs/feet-- and sit in a room with up to maybe a dozen people, all in well-spaced recliners. Everybody gets individualized attention from the acupuncturists and then are left alone; the lights are low enough and the chairs far enough apart that you don't feel as though you're in a fishbowl. The energy is nonetheless enhanced by the other people in the room. It's a very mellow, positive environment. If you're new to acupuncture, this would be a particularly great place to start, both because of the low cost and the completely non-clinical feel of the place. Larry is my acupuncturist. He is top notch. The other day I visited with a twitching nerve. He asked probing questions and because of my comfort level, I offered a detailed explanation. In return, Larry worked his magic. Larry then showed me on the skeletal model the areas he had addressed. By the next day the twitch was gone. Accupuncture is an amazing Science and Larry has the just the right mixture of professionalism, warmth and energy coupled with deep expertise and obvious passion for his work. I am sure all of the other practitioners are also marvelous, but from my persepctive Larry is a Rock Star! I can't say enough good about this place! I had never had acupuncture before and was a complete skeptic and really concerned about having needles stuck in me. After going the first time on a free student special I felt more relaxed than I can ever remember. Josh was so good at asking questions and making sure I was comfortable. The whole thing was painless (to my surprise). I went back again a couple of months later in desperation after I caught a really bad upper respiratory infection that antibiotics weren't helping and was about to go into bronchitis. Josh once again came to my rescue. By the end of the session my sinuses had cleared up and by that evening I was almost completely better - it was nothing short of amazing. Have since brought my Mom and sister and they had great results as well. I love this place and highly recommend it - you certainly can't beat the price or the care! read more

I have never felt more comfortable doing this as an alternative method to chronic pain from previous injuries. I convinced my boyfriend to come with me, and being the sceptic he is, it took convincing until one night I brought it up again, and told him about the reviews on this place, plus evidence it works from testimonies from coworkers. He has sport injuries that just can't be healed because he never went to a doctor about it in the first place (his parents only did doc visits if it was a dead or dying situation). After feeling his shoulder/trap muscle pain getting worse, relenting, he caved. It's only been two visits and he feels better. There's a lot more work to go because of a decade of ignoring his body, but he's already found instant results, and so have I. Keith has made it a wonderful experience for us and I don't mind the needles at all, prior to coming here. We don't make much, but because of the awesome staff, VERY harmonious environment, and the affordability, they will be seeing us indefinitely. I highly recommend TCA. read more

After having terrible back pain following back surgery and then being rear ended by a truck, I began going to Tucson Community Acupuncture. Keith has been my acupuncturist and he is a treasure. He did everything possible to help alleviate my pain. When I needed to go every other day to control the pain, Keith worked with me on the cost, which was a blessing.
