The historical plaque posted at the entrance is well worth reading as it highlights the history of this resting place. The oldest person I could find interred here was born in 1796. The newest decedent that I could find deposited here died in 2022. The cemetery is fairly full but it looks like there's enough space left for another hundred plots. This is a nice quiet place to visit in spring time when the bluebonnets and other flowers are in bloom, although the noise of 290 can still be heard. There were many graves dedicated to the Woodmen of the world which may have been a trade union at the turn of the 20th century. There was even a confederate war memorial. So if you want a peaceful place to stroll amongst the formerly living or perhaps be interred here yourself, it's an easy place to walk through. I'm sure the local funeral home can give you the going rate for a plot here.

This is definitely one of the more unusual cemeteries in the Austin area due to the fact that it is…read moredirectly located at the end of an airport runway. Gaining access to it is a little bit tricky as it is on a small single lane dirt road located just off of 183. It is about 2 to 3 acres in size and there's usually a jet passing overhead every few minutes. This cemetery can also be considered the greenwood cemetery as well. The cemetery itself is neatly arranged with nicely manicured trees and trimmed lawn. One fascinating side effect of the Jets passing so close above you is that exhibits a powerful whistling sound from the wind being sliced through by the aircraft after it has passed by. In other words the vortices that come from the edge of the wings descend into this area and create a strange wind-like phenomena. This is still an active cemetery and there were 2 recent 2022 buriels here. There's over 100 headstones here with plenty of room for more. The dates of the headstones range from the early 20th century to the present day. There were a handful of headstones from the 1880s through the 90s. Apart from the historical aspect of the cemetery, the best part were the planes landing just 100 feet above your head followed by that aerodynamic whistling noise.

One thing I was surprised not to see was a Texas historical sign posted by the cemetery with some historical information. However, I did spot a post that was sheared off which may well have had a historical sign but, has since been removed by vandals. There is a Texas historical sign on the opposite side of the road from the entrance, however it refers to a school that is no longer at that location. Judging by many of the names on the grave stones, it certainly appears that many of those buried here are of Swedish descent. I did spot one grave that represented a 19 century trade union which I've seen at other graveyards in the Austin and Manor area. Many of the graves are from the early 20th century, but two were from 2018. This picturesque cemetery seems to still have plenty of room for future residents. So if you're looking for a peaceful resting place away from the city, this might be a good choice. I decided to take extra pictures since there was no historical sign.

There are two photos below of Texas historical signs which you tell you you all you need to know. It's immediate neighbors are a Dollar General, the village hall, and the Ebeneezer Church. There was one other grave cast in concrete about 10 feet from the main plot. It was hard to read with very little information. For the most part, this small plot seems relatively well cared for, although a little overgrown. For those interested in local Texas history, it's worth a visit. Informative photos and video below.

This small cemetery is pretty much located in the middle of nowhere and completely surrounded by…read morecornfields. It's basically just 50 x 100', but there's still enough space to bury at least a dozen or more. This cemetery is several miles north east of Manor and many of the people buried here were from the early Swedish, German and Danish settlers of the small town of Kimbro. There appears to be about 50 to 60 people buried here. Most of the graves are fromthe early to mid 20th century and the newest occupant was laid to rest here in 2013. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the graveyard itself has been well-maintained over time. There's not a whole lot more to say about this spot so I'll let the photos tell the rest of the story.

This is a small cemetery that sits on less than an acre of land. It's less than 100 feet from US…read more183 north just outside of Pilot Knob. Only one section is fenced in, but all of it is easily accessible. There is no parking lot so you'll have to park further down the narrow feeder lane. The cemetery is divided into three sections which may have a lot to do with the families buried here. The cemetery has been pretty well kept up considering there were no toppled headstones or heavy overgrowth. Many of these graves are from the early part of the 20th century and some a little earlier than that. The most recent decedent that I could find was from 1992. One thing that seemed conspicuously absent was a Texas historical sign. Sadly, quite a number of graves are dedicated to small children and those under 30. The photos included in this review add more dimension.

To be honest, I spotted this particular cemetery on Google maps and noticed that nobody had added…read moreany information. It's just on the outskirts of Marble Falls on FM 1431. This appears to be an active graveyard with lots of room to spare and a building on the property most likely used for services. The entire property is encircled in an 8 foot high perimeter fence. Normally cemeteries are accessible by the public, but oddly this one has a security fence requiring a security code to get in. I was also surprised there was no information or phone number available at the front gate to inquire of concerning entry.

Maybe they fix it, maybe they don't.] One of the most haunted buildings in Galveston, or at least as much as I've read. This where the ghost of a schoolteacher who heroically pulled victims from the floodwaters during the great hurricane of 1900 roams the Strand. I didn't see it. The State marker here reads, "Four decades after joining in partnership, George Ball, John Henry Hutchings, and John Sealy employed prominent Galveston architect Nicholas J. Clayton to design office buildings for their Ball, Hutchings & Co. commission and banking operations. Built in 1895 as two individual but connected structures, these buildings complemented Galveston's Strand Avenue, known at the time as the "Wall Street of the Southwest." "The buildings' Renaissance revival style is represented by the heavily rusticated stone arches featured on its entryways, terra cotta detailing on the parapets and entablatures, evenly spaced columns and pilasters, elaborate stone cornice, and arcading windows. The foundation walls are six feet wide at the base and made of pressed brick with ashlar patterned sandstone facing. "The corner building, which features the name "Hutchings" on its entablature, was originally constructed for John H. Hutchings. The adjoining office building, featuring the name "Sealy" on its entablature, was built for John Sealy. These majestic buildings are reminders of a grand era in Galveston's history and the philanthropic legacy of these early businessmen." The second marker has a picture of the building on the back. The front reads, "This impressive building contains grey and pink granite, red Texas sandstone, and buff colored terra cotta. Designed in the Neo-Renaissance style by Galveston architect Nicholas J. Clayton, it was built in 1895 for the banking firm of Ball, Hutchings & Co. "Although the three-story building appears to be a single structure, it actually consists of two adjoining structures made to look like one. The corner structure housed the bank and the easterly building the offices. The two buildings are crowned by an elaborate stone cornice with the Lone Star medallion on panels of the entablature and with the dates 1854 and 1895 in the stonework. "Ball, Hutchings & Co. was established in 1854 with George Ball, John H. Hutchings, and John Sealy as partners. As bankers and dealers in wholesale dry goods, the firm was the first of its kind in Texas and its influence was felt throughout the state. In 1858, the assets and liabilities of the Samuel May Williams' Commercial and Agricultural Bank, the only chartered bank in Texas prior to the Civil War, were taken over by Ball, Hutchings & Co. "When the Federal blockade the port of Galveston during the Civil War, the firm moved to Houston for the duration of the war and from there carried on trade in cotton as a means to help the Confederacy. In 1867, George Sealy, younger brother of John Sealy, was made a partner in the firm. "The bank was reorganized in 1897 as Hutchings, Sealy & Co. After a merger in 1930 with the South Texas National Bank, the name of the bank was changed to the Hutchings-Sealy National Bank. And in 1958, after a merger with the First National Bank of Galveston, to First Hutchings-Sealy National Bank of Galveston. Based on these mergers, the bank has the distinction of being the oldest bank in Texas. In 1933, Hutchings-Sealy National Bank was moved to the Rosenberg Bank at 22nd and Market Streets. In 1956, a new building was constructed for the bank at 22nd and Market. In 1972, a ten story building was erected for the bank between 22nd, 23rd, Market and Mechanic Streets. American Indemnity Company was founded here in 1913 and occupied the building until 1958. After Hurricane Carla severely damaged its building in 1961, Ursuline Academy held classes here for several years. The bank has played an important role in Galveston's commercial history. George Ball, John H. Hutchings, John Sealy and George Sealy were influential in many industries including railroads, steamship lines, and the wharves. They were civic-minded men whose concern for the citizens of their city led them to establish and support hospitals, schools, and orphanages.
