The website is decent but really needs to be updated. A detailed FAQ section would save potential clients a lot of time. Both of these issues are easily fixable, though. I generally wear weaves, but wanted to switch to a more protective style. Since my stylist, doesn't do braids I looked up a few styles and decided that I wanted someone to give me Marley twists. On a relatively late, Thursday night I found myself outside of Crown Royal Hair Salon. I had already been disappointed once, because after booking an appointment elsewhere I was canceled on very unprofessionally. I walked in to Crown Royal, and was greeted warmly by a stylist working out of a private room. She informed me that they had a braider on site, but she was unable to do the style I wanted. However, she gave me the card of a woman that was able to do Marley twists. I was deflated, because I figured since the stylist was off, she wouldn't want to come into the salon to take a walk-in client...but I was wrong! I called the number I was given, and was consoled by a very sweet woman named, Awa - who agreed to come to the salon to do my hair. I was surprised, given how late it was but glad I would be getting my hair done after all! The salon has a great set up, I appreciated the fact that every stylist has a private suite with a television, sink and styling station. It made the experience very special for me. I got to get my hair done, and watch my favorite television show too! Awa is amazing, I have relaxed hair and was concerned the style I wanted wouldn't support the weight of the braiding hair but she did a wonderful job. Very neat, quick work, she's also very meticulous about detail (she trimmed all the small hairs off of all of my braids!) and doesn't cut corners. I'm not sure if it is a salon wide deal, but I was offered $20 off for my first service as a new client with Awa. Definitely a great perk if you ask me. There's a barber shop next door, so you and your boo can get your hair done at the same time. So this past saturday I went in looking to get a quick weave, I've never got it before. However, I've seen it on others and it looks nice. So when I walked in I looked for someone since it was my first time there, and the lady in the first booth as soon as you walk in asked could she help me, so I replied yes, I was looking to get a quick weave and she said she could do it and it would be "100" dollars. I said okay fine and I was ready to get started. As I sat in her chair and she was going through my natural hair she said, "you have a lot of hair and your hair is long." well my hair isn't that long to me it touches my collarbone or a bit shorter. Anyways, so she said that and I said well would it be a problem? she replied no. Mind you I know many girls with longer hair who get a quick weave. So I got my hair washed and she took my leave out and put gel and some sort of lotion I believe and got under the dryer, oh my hair wasn't put in a ponytail or anything the hair in the back was tucked under like a one braid type of thing. Anyway, I get in the dryer gt back out she puts a hardener on it then after that she glued the tracks. End result my hair Looked Great! from the front because my leave out always blends well with any hair. So fast forward to the next day, a track came out at the bottom so as i felt my hair, I noticed that my hair was out, like basically a fro, with nothing securing it. I was like wtf but I was like hey maybe i can fix it. But when I get to work I asked my co-worker hey can you take a pic of my hair, some reason it feels weird and I cant see. THe face she made was like a shocker she was like Kris, what in the hell? and it wasn't until I looked at the pic I was so embarrassed. So i quickly text the stylist " Sharon" and told her what happen, she said I can fix it.. but at this point I felt so stupid and embarrassed because this shouldn't happen only after two days. I told her I do not feel comfortable with her doing my hair again due to this experience, and I don't trust her. So she was saying things like I'm being dramatic but how am I being dramatic when I just got my hair done and it looks terrible, I didn't even go on my outing with friends. So anyways she finally says I will refund your money no problem. I went to a professional stylist and she was so upset she said "Oh hell no get your money back." she also said I got played because the lady didn't even put a cap on my head, and if she knew my hair was thick and long it was supposed to be cornrowed down. I asked three other girls that do hair, and they were shocked as well to know I didn't have a cap nor was my hair in ponytail or secured. so basically I got played!!1 So after work I call her to meet up, and she then tells me I'm only refunding you 80.00 dollars, mind you I paid her 100 dollars plus a 20 dollar tip! yeah a tip. So i said well can I atleast get 100 back i did tip you, she said its for the shampoo cost, but um isn't that protocol, but I said okay so the tip should cover that, but she said no "like she said she will pay me 80.00. and that i said i liked my hair when I left, ofcourse I did it looked good from the outside. when I met her she had the money in her hand, I said okay do you wanna see my hair, I turned around and showed her and she said "okay nonchalantly" I thought she would say I'm so sorry this happened, this isn't my best work or something but she didn't care. not only did I lose 40 dollars but I also lost money for the hair I purchased so total I lost on 90.00 additional dollars. To conclude, this post is not to bash the salon itself, but the professionalism of the stylist, I felt advantage was taken because I am naive and too nice, so its my fault, but you don't do people like that. She looked carefully at each girl's hair, came up with a unique style for each of them, and executed both flawlessly. She was professional from start to finish. What really won me over was how gentle she was with my oldest, who is very tender-headed. Braiding days usually mean a lot of tears, but Claudette was so patient and careful that we got through it with barely any. I've been getting my hair done by Claudette for several years now and for the most part it's been great. My hair has consistently looks great and for the most part our appointments have been timely, which I greatly appreciate! I can make a hair appointment and still have time to enjoy the rest of my day. She's been flexible on the occasions that I've been late, and I've extended to her the same courtesy when she's running behind. From my perspective, we had a pretty good working relationship. A few months back, she started changing the way she was braiding my hair and incorporated. braiding hair. Ever since then, I've noticed that my hair doesn't last as long, and sometimes the crochets slip out, especially in the front. This last time, a little over a week after My appointment, two the crochets slipped out in the front. I sent her a quick text to let her know and showed her a picture, with the intention of trying to figure out what changes we can make to the braiding structure so that it doesn't happen again. I was very surprised when she sent me a note saying that she would refund my money and asking me to find another stylist, noting that she had given me several discounts in the past. I told her that my intention in notifying her was to see how we could resolve the issue together, not to receive any additional discounts. I also told her that I did not want a refund. I want to acknowledge that she had previously provided me discounted services after she had to redo a set of crochets that she had done about week prior. However, the most recent discount she offered me was because she was 4 HOURS LATE for my appointment, and I wasn't able to reschedule because I was flying to New Orleans for a wedding the next morning. At no point did I ever ask Claudette for any of discounts she offered, and was prepared to pay full price for all of my services if asked. I was under the impression that these discounts were an act of good faith and an extension of professional courtesy for my inconvenience. I love my hair I can style it anyway I want corn rolls the front and I let her corn roll. Whatever she's feeling whatever design she's feeling that day as long as she leaves some out in the back sometimes she'll say no I need to braid the back to get it to grow and her growth oil. Her oil for your scalp is amazing. It's $10 a bottle and it's worth every single penny I now have two bottles of oil scout oil. My mom has like four bottle bottles. The vibe is really nice. My hearing is very sensitive. So when I come to the shop, she make sure that in her area she turns down the volume completely on the TV or the music and I'm very sensitive to smells. She make sure it smells like Kashmir as she make sure that I'm OK that I have water she just is very, very wonderful and very lovely and she listens to you and gives you exactly what you want. She goes above and beyond, and I asked her to wash my hair and scrub my scout real good and she washes it in scrubs it not to where it hurts but she asked me before I get up out of the shampoo bowl when she shampoos it and then conditions it she said that I get all the areas of your scalp that itch. I say yes yes yes ma'am I even fell asleep when she was washing and shampooing and conditioning my hair and she does deep conditioners. It's awesome. I love her and her prices are reasonable. She doesn't request much. She just wants you to be satisfied, you cannot walk out that door unsatisfied she will go back and rearrange her schedule if you're not satisfied with your hair, but she checks in on you during the appointment and says OK do you like it? Is this OK? Is this all right and if you say no, she said OK we'll start over. We'll start over. I love it. I love her shot. She used to have two shots but now she converted it to one which is wonderful. I have even taken a few cards and giving them away and left them with different people like today. I left one of her cards with the lady at the library South Bowie branch and said just let her touch your hair just and if she helps it grow, it's wonderful and she's a licensed. She has her licensed cosmetology and a Loctician and even silk press she does those she does it all. She's so amazing. I leave her card on different people's cars. They want to have their hair done all natural even if you want a chemical in it she won't mind, but she will tell you the pH balance of your hair. What's good for it?
