It is getting harder to find true Chinese buffets. We do not eat at buffets of any type very often--my belt line would not like that, lol! However, this location in Morehead City, NC has been a favorite stop-by location for us for over a decade, whenever we are in town! Usually, several of my kids and I are just coming back from 2-3 days of primitive tent camping on Shackleford Banks, where we have to carry in all our own gear, water, and food, and then carry out all our own trash. As hardcore as that may sound, it is addictive in its own way--an experience one pretty much cannot get any other way. That said, by the time our feet hit the mainland, this restaurant is always the first thought in our minds, as we voraciously zoom towards it. We are usually ravenously hungry by that point, and this buffet becomes almost magical to us, as we dive into its extensive variety of hot, fresh foods (when only hours before our only options for days had been mere tuna packs, protein bars, and various jerky)! Over the years, we have never been disappointed with this buffet. While the building (both exterior and interior) is older, not that well maintained structurally, and thus nothing to rave about; yet the establishment overall is sufficiently clean, and the quality and taste of the food is always the star of the show anyway--and consistently so. Granted, full disclosure, after what we do on that island, probably even a cardboard pizza would likely be an improvement and surprisingly appreciated, lol! Still, I do not believe that our judgment is at all impaired when I state that we always look deeply forward to this place and enjoy it greatly, on our way out of town! It is often sort of a reward for toughing it out on the island with meager subsistence supplies for multiple days before. As such, I am grateful this restaurant is here, hope it stays a long time, and truly wish it well. Lunchtime today was the THIRD TIME the same waitress was rude to me for no reason. This is the THIRD TIME this has happened to me in less than 2 months. She asks me what I want to drink but doesn't let me answer. Then she ends up serving me a beverage configuration that I don't even want!!! I have brought this up with management over and over again, reminding them that it's all getting captured in their cc cameras, yet each time they refuse to take any appropriate action about it. Today was by far the worst case; they actually victim-blamed me to colleagues AS IF IT WAS MY FAULT and they also made up baseless excuses as to why I was unfairly mistreated. I enjoyed eating here. We were able to be seated right away, the food was good (good flavor),fresh and everything was clean. This reminded me of buffets from my childhood which made it more enjoyable. Plenty of options and friendly and attentive workers. First time going, heard it was a hit or miss. Service was fine and they had a lot of variety but nothing good. The chicken was okay. Most of the sushi was so-so, except the fried sushi. You can immediately tell it had gone bad from the first bite, it smelled HORRID. Another thing that was strange were the dessert, majority of them had the same filling despite the pastry itself being entirely different from the next. All and all service, food, and atmosphere was alright... I think that with most buffet style restaurants far be it Chinese, to Americana it really depends on what time someone arrives. If you arrive in the early lunch or dinner hours the food will be a lot more fresh. Whereas if you arrive during peak hours the kitchen staff would be more focused on quantity vs quality...now with all that being said and done the food my family and I had good tasting hot food... the egg rolls had bit more ginger to my taste, but the egg roll itself were hot and crispy. Sushi was pretty good. I was rather surprised to see crawdads/mudbugs on the line... Those you mainly find in Southern Americana cuisine. They were good none the less.... So if anything I'd would recommend this restaurant but would recommend going early. read more

Great for the price . The beef options were very tasty and generous, However the sushi selection and portions left a lot to be desired. Huge array of food and a lot of it was very good. Service was really good, instant seating and refill girl was on Top of it. Buffet was well stocked with something for everyone. For the price it's hard to beat . I tried the black pepper chicken, small breaded pieces, not over cooked... krab casserole, big chunks, plenty of cheese and scallions, fairly fresh... Korean chicken, pepper flakes, long cut onions and green peppers, chewy chicken with not so much Korean flavor because of the onion and green pepper... Rice noodles with scrambled egg and onions, tender, not real hot, should have stirred from bottom but not bad... Wonton soup, tasted flour broth from the wonton even after adding some soy sauce... Pot stickers, fairly thin dough, cooked properly, just weren't too hot, meat was good... Sushi was okay, at least the rice was fresh, yellow tail (I think) was a bit chewy, tuna was fresh...Deserts were the standard Chinese cookies and cakes, sugar buns, single serve ice cream... Sugar bun was actually a highlight... Service was Johnny on the spot for water refills and table cleanup... Floor was slightly slippery, everywhere I walked... Tsunami buffet is a local favorite in the Crystal Coast area, but for me it was just ok. The chicken dishes (Korean, hibachi, black pepper, sesame, general Tao's and walnut) were standard. Hot and sour soup was somehow neither hot nor sour. Crab stuffed mushrooms were bland too. Clams in black bean sauce had a decent taste, but there were bits of sand left in them. On the plus side the buffet was clean and the plates that I took from the stacks did not have any lingering moisture between them. This place was terrible. I would give it zero stars if I could. We tried to have a late lunch here on a Monday while we were traveling to the outer banks for vacation. We walked in and the place was empty with two couples sitting on separate ends of the restaurant. We were seated and then we grabbed plates to serve ourselves. There was barely any food in the buffet trays. Whatever that was left in them had been sitting for several hours because it was either dried, burnt, or soggy. Nothing looked fresh. We walked around the buffet tables several times and could not find anything that we would put on our plates to eat. We could not convince ourselves to stay so we decided to leave. Yum!!! Pretty much everything I tried was really good. I filled up on the crispy pepper chicken, green beans, and potstickers. All the "mile-long buffet" classics of an American'ized Chinese mega-bar. Loads of over-breaded, fried finger foods like pre-packaged shrimp and chicky nuggeys, "fried" spring rolls (why?), classic egg rolls, fried bananas, dumplin's and empty puffs. The chicken dishes didn't have much flavor, but the sweet & sour pork was tasty. The hot vegetable selection was limited to green beans and some sautéed mushrooms. The salad selection was well organized and had a huge variety of toppings and very fresh fruit. The sushi bar was cranking our gas station-style portions with gooey rice and dried out proteins - maybe on a busier night the offerings are more fresh. The hibachi grill was the only real highlight - proteins included shrimp, sliced beef, chicken and pork with lots of veggies to mix in. Pro-Tip: there are tiny, sweet scallops located at the end of the hibachi bar, hidden between the sprouts and jalapeños, away from the other proteins - so, pace yourself, Grasshopper. Terrible service. Food was not all that. But what has me highly upset right now, is they charged me $75 for 2 adults, and 6 kids. 3 of them are 6, one is an infant, the others are 2&3. The kids didn't eat hardly anything, all together maybe 3 wings, 8-9 fries, and 2 bites of rice. (THATS ALL 6 KIDS TOGETHER!) I came to this establishment and ordered a to-go plate and I misread the sign saying eight dollars a pound instead I thought it said eight dollars a plate and when I got to the register I ended up not having enough money to purchase my food when I tried to leave and not get the food at all they threaten the car, law-enforcement, which made my kids afraid, I managed to convince them to let me pay them what I had, which was 30 of the 40 may I add and they let me leave but overall it was not a good experience, and when I got the food, the beef wasn't cooked all the way and the chicken was cold Nevertheless, this is no way to treat a family read more

This place came highly recommended by a local. My family and I decided to give them a shot. We traveled here to visit my oldest son, who is stationed at Cherry Point. The five of us walked in with large appetites, and eyes for the hibachi grill. We were very disappointed, the choices we many. That is the only upside to this place. We tried many items and none were worth eating. The hibachi grill needed to be cleaned or the way they clean it needs to be changed. The food that cam off of it tasted like the old metal. Three of us tried it with different ingredients, they all tasted bad. We left our food paid for what I can only call garbage. We retired to our hotel to eat day old cold pizza.
