5 stars for the hot barre class, even if it's hot and painful... you feel great after!…read more Hot barre at enso is like boot camp for ladies in cute lulu lemon attire. It's a fully body workout in 60 mins. The pace is quick but that's what I like. This is not a relaxing yoga stretch, expect your heart to race and body to sweat buckets. Studio is modern and clean. Plenty of space in the locker rooms, showers are also clean.Downtown location is a huge plus. Prices are on the higher end, but if you buy classes in bulk (5 classes or more) it comes out a lot cheaper.

TLDR: Go to a class with Sarah as the instructor and fall in love with the Athletica workout…read more While my prior review was directed at my Hot Yoga experience, this one is for the Athletica class & challenge. Their Athletica course is rather new, it is a 45 minute HIIT with instructor where you rotate through 12-15 stations. I took part in their open house back in June and nearly threw up from exertion/low blood sugar from not having eaten breakfast before going. Despite my rough go at it, it was clear that the class itself was well run and that the equipment was top of the line. I had been tempted by the "30 Day Athletica Challenge" promotions that I had seen going on, but the price range is something usually out of my budget. I soon realized that the $600 annual membership to N+ might be cheaper, but I stopped going or caring after 3 months, so it costed me a lot more per class in the end! The 30 day challenge goal is to complete 21 days of classes out of the 30, two days on, one day of rest. Complete it, and get rewarded with 5 additional classes (usually $100-$115+ tax). Coming from a background of a severe multi fracture injury, scoliosis and other wonderfully inconvenient breaks, dislocations and sprains, I thought that a guided challenge with coach would be of great benefit to me, who still doesn't know how to use basic gym equipment. Not only did Sarah and Marina offer modifications in their explanations for people with knee injuries like myself, they actually check in with everyone as the class goes on to ensure that everything is okay, to adjust any errors in technique and offer swapping out weights/movements as needed. Key points to an effective workout; Consistency: 30 day challenge to put you in the habit Realistic goal: 2-3 days on, 1 day off, also their classes are EVENINGS so you're already up and about, no sleeping through! Motivation: Sarah and Marina cheering you on with their energy and great playlists Technique: They don't miss a beat and correct you as needed Variety: Stations change from one workout to another (get to know a TON of at home exercises!) Effectiveness: HIIT wins! Cardio, strength, core and balance training included! How this class works for everybody no matter where on the feeble to fit spectrum you fall, your workout can be adjusted via intensity/speed/weights. (ie; set the treadmill speed 4km vs 10km, use the 5lb weight vs the 20 lbs weight etc). I completed 12 of my classes in my first 14 days and was blown away by how much more energy I had and how my body seemingly began running itself better right away. Due to the mixing and matching of exercises, there wasn't really anything that became too sore other than my injured knees. Even me the amateur was able to go 5 days in a row before a day off. A week into my challenge I already found myself purchasing more classes when there was a sale so that my budget could be flexed into letting me indulge longer term in their course. Where to watch out: especially if doing the challenge, you must book your classes in advance as they can be booked to capacity which can mean missing out on your class goals. Don't hesitate to use the waitlist feature, the 3 times I did I got in. While 2 of the 4 instructors really drove the class for me, the other two did not bring anything to the table for me, to the point where I found myself cancelling a class instead of going depending on the instructor. Although Kevin has been growing on me! This was more important to me than some others might find it, particularly if you're new and need the extra encouragement, but is why I would say a first taste should definitely be done with Sarah for the full experience! If you've been hesitant, don't think twice about subscribing to their mailing list for the next sale to use as an excuse to try. They also offer 2 and 5 class deals for newbies if you want to dip your toe in the water. Oh, and this should go without saying if you've seen any photos, but their facilities are the bomb. Electronic lockers (no lock necessary), clean AF showers/changing rooms, everything is new, well maintained, and aesthetically perfect, not to mention a SUPER central and accessible location.

Which is still difficult despite the fact that it's small, intimate classes of max 8, so they can focus on everyone. They keeps things fresh by adding exercises and accessories - and as time progresses, or if they feel that all the people in the class are up to it, they'll really work your butt into shape with more advanced exercises. And BEST PART is they are all certified naturopaths, and if you're like me, you've got insurance coverage for it. Super accessible, near a ton of transit, if you makes a girls activity then tons of great terrasses nearby you can sip a cocktail and show of your superbly defined legs and arms (abs too, but what are the odds you'll walk around naked? ) . Took 1 session (2mths), once a week to see a HUGE change in my body. And they offer a free trial class.

As a child I wanted to be either a princess or a ballerina. Princess sounded like a lot of hard…read morework so I chose ballerina by default. Sadly, life got in the way of things and "perform Swan Lake" never got crossed off my bucket list. A couple of years back, ballet was the new yoga for a short while and I thought I should get back into the swing of things. I basically ran into a brick wall: no one wants to teach a geriatric teenager ballet! Think of all those stiff joints! So all the adults courses I found were a pale imitation of a ballet class or a mish-mash of ballet-latin dance-reaggaeton. This poor gringa can't do the "heat" of the latin dance, what I wanted was pure, hard ballet! Luckily I found the Academie de Ballet, which is actually in charge of training the future dancers of the Grand Ballets Canadiens. Their classes for adults are pleasantly tough and traditional: warm-ups, barre work, center work, diagonals and arms! Some teachers even prefer a dress code, now that's a great excuse to don those fuschia legwarmers! The price is reasonable and you can choose between 3 levels, between 1-3 times/ week. Classes are mainly taught in French but should the teacher be noticed, you can be given a parenthesis in English, since everything is physical work, you can pretty much rely on observation. I really enjoy that my teachers have always seemed genuinely interested in my progress and have never dismissed me as an adult (read: too old to dance). Plus, the school is attentive to the student's needs and schedules have evolved upon request. If you would like to send your children there, they also function as a full-blown sports-study school and do half-price rates for boys!

I went to the Mont-Royal location and took some reformer classes with Tika. Located on the second floor, the place is nice and spacious with bright light coming through the front windows. There are few different rooms for other classes but the Reformers are in the main open area in the middle of the space. There are changes rooms with lockers available to use. Tika is an excellent instructor. She can communicate in French and English. I was able to attend to 3 of her classes and they were all wonderful. She is very knowledgeable, attentive and have great energy. I love how all of her classes are a bit different every time to keep it fun and challenging. Will definitely go back when I will be in Montreal again.

So this is a brand new yoga studio, barely even a week old, and so far so good!…read more It is the second location of the well established Wanderlust yoga studio in mile end, and it's always nice to see a place doing so well that they can open a second location. The studio, located in an industrial style building near Notre Dame street, exemplifies what one has generally come to expect of yoga studios: lovely open loft style spaces with hardwood floors, visible brick walls and "zen" minimalist decor. They have two large practice rooms (one slightly larger than the other) with plenty of space and props to acompte large classes both with high ceilings and large, bright windows. They have three change rooms (hommes, femmes, and mixte) complete with showers, blow dryers and toilets. I personally explored the ladies change a room and it was ENORMOUS! They also have lovely lounge area with complementary tea and chocolates and a beverage fridge where you can buy fancy yoga beverages, like kombucha and coconut water (both of which I find abhorrant, but, other yoga types seem to like them). The staff so far have been very friendly and welcoming. They offer classes in both English and French and they have a super priced intro trial package of $35 for one month of yoga. Unfortunately, after the trial month, the prices creep back up to more standard priced yoga membership rates, but they do have $5 community classes every weekday morning at 8:30am and offer a work-trade program (3h/week gets you free unlimited yoga). My favorite feature of this studio is just how many classes they consistently offer. Want to go to yoga at 7am every weekday? You can do that! Every day at 4, you can do that too. Missed your 7am class? Don't worry, there's another class at 8:30. My only criticisms are that I find the rooms a bit warm, so I get pretty sweaty (which isn't great if you have to go somewhere directly after without the time to shower), and that the style they teach is very consistant and repetitive from one instructor to the other, which, for some people can actually be a plus. I was formerly taking yoga at the university gym and I found I really appreciated the broad variety of yoga styles that where taught by the different instructors that really gave us the chance to explore what yoga has to offer as a whole.
