I was so excited about a real spin place finally opening up in McAllen. I went in with such high expectations and honestly Trybe did not deliver.
The place: location is kind of far for me, but the place itself is beautiful inside. When you get there the instructors show you how to use the lockers, which are very spacious. The instructor and front desk help show you where your bikes are. They show you how to put your shoes on, pick your weights, and how to clip in to the bike. Overall super helpful and great start.
The class: overall this is where I wasn't impressed. I did go during opening week, so it might be better, but the instructor didn't seem super prepared. The beat was challenging enough, and the song selection was good not great. I wish the instructor had done a better job of keeping up with the beat to show us how, but she seemed a bit off. My main issue with the class besides the music and the instructor being off beat was the rest of the people.
Usually a spin place is dark and you go to relax and forget about the outside world. Kind of hard to do when every other person is taking videos! Since the room is dark so many videos had flash! super distracting! I thought this might be since it was the first week, but I check their Instagram constantly and multiple people post videos with flash! You can see the reflection on the mirror and that is such a huge turn off. Other places such as soul cycle, turn style, peloton, cyclebar, etc. don't allow phones in the studio to begin with. I wish Trybe would implement a similar policy.
Price: it's $12 for a single class which is very reasonable for this type of workout. If you get the monthly packet it's even a better deal and again super reasonable. What's unreasonable is the show rental! Out of every spin place in the country I've been, only Soul Cycle charges to rent shoes, and this isn't close to the quality and brand you're getting with Soul. At $2 per class it adds up. Even local places in NYC don't charge this.
Overall: I think this place has a lot of potential, but it's just starting out. Eliminating the shoe fee and implanting the no phones in the studio would make me change my review to 5 stars. I don't hold them accountable for the speed of the class since it was the first week. read more
