The guys here are as honest as you can hope to find, paying fair market rates at honest wieghts. I have never done business with them and left there feeling like I got ripped off. I say that because of my experience at the other recycling place in town, "try2recycle". Where I always have a bad taste in my mouth after taking my scrap there. I recently took a good load of stainless steel to try2recycle, which was bringing $0.25/lb, I was intending on offloading it and wieghing it on the smaller more accurate scale but was directed to the truck scale which rounds to the nearest 20lbs! Which is fine for scrap iron but for alluminum, copper, and stainless it's a good way to cheat you. But the boys at Burdett & Sons have always been good to me, and that's why I take my business to them!

I much prefer this one though, because of my flexibility to walk around and throw items in the bins they need to go in. Personal preference - I just feel like I get more satisfaction out of that rather than be rushed and have people grab stuff out of my trunk and do whatever with it haha. I first came by on a Saturday morning and afterwards, we hung out and walked around Bear Branch Park right next door, on the same property (I think). There is an employee who is stationed at the cardboard section (the biggest tin on site) and he's super helpful, especially if you have large pieces you need help with. I brought my 9 ft. Christmas Tree box without breaking it down, and the whole thing fit and was thrown in there. Nice! Keep in mind, there is only one entrance and exit, so please don't block any of the paths to lead to the exit! Also, always be sure to turn left to get out. To the right, will lead you to a dead end.

They have everything sorted by paper, glass (brown, green, and clear), plastic, tin and aluminum cans, cardboard, and even a spot for lawn waste (lawn clippings, leaves, branches) It's not too confusing, very self explanatory once you drive in, it's a small area though and if it's you're first time it is hard to find, you have to really pay attention. I love coming here to drop off my recyclables, I just wish they had more and longer hours, they're open Wednesday 4p-7p and Saturday 9a-2p, but overall I have a good experience here, just drop and go really.

Yes, you will receive some cash for your metal (don't expect the proverbial gold mine, though). And you're helping a local business - plus you're reducing the volume of waste that ends up in landfills. Always very friendly staff here. Parking is adequate, since you're really not here for very long - they're very quick to take your metal, weigh it and pay you a set price per pound. Exiting back onto Kuykendahl (especially if you're heading south) can be a challenge, though. Keep that in mind when you're ready to leave.

After a lot of searching on the internet, I found an up-to-date TAMU webpage that says: "Due to the re-construction of Adriance Lab Road, the Recycling Center will be temporarily relocated to Fan Field (off of Research Parkway). The center will re-open on Adriance Lab Road once construction has ended."

He glanced inthe truck and said it was aluminum . Anyone with any sense at all could tell you that everything I had was 100% copper in my truck , he sent me to another scrap yard where three very nice very professional employees told me it was definetly all copper. I wouldn't recommend r &r salvage to anyone but would highly recommend J & L salvage . The man at r & r shouldn't even be employed at a scrap yard . It was about thirty minutes from closing time after rushing to get there on time made me feel like he just didn't want to work due to the time and the fact that the copper was on big spools, not sure who owns r & r but you may want someone working there that knows what they are doing and knows what copper looks like it surely doesn't look like aluminum and doesn't send your business or income to a competitor and sit there arguing with your customer that clearly knows what they have is copper !!

I have searched for years for places that take all sorts of things, most recently, old box TVs. Somehow, I googled recycle events and found AfterBits in Spring. In our high-tech world saving electronics from the landfill is a worthwhile goal. I commend the 2 gentlemen who own and run this franchise. They are very friendly, knowledgeable and community invested. That being said, AfterBits is a little hard to find. They are located in the very back of an Industrial Park in Building C on the west side of Rhodes Road between FM 2920 and Spring Stuebner. If you have electronics to recycle this is the place to take them.
