From the moment we walked in, we felt welcome. The staff was friendly and took the time to explain that customers are welcome to bring in their own vinyl records and spin them, or use records from the shop's collection. I thought that was a really cool touch and something you don't see every day. The store itself is on the smaller side, but don't let that fool you. They have a surprisingly good selection of used vinyl at reasonable prices, along with a nice assortment of CDs and cassette tapes. The atmosphere felt authentic, relaxed, and centered around a genuine love of music. If you're into vinyl, looking for something different, or just want to support a local Black-owned business, this place is definitely worth a visit.

I waited a few weeks to pen this review just…read moreso I could try out the stack of records I bought and see what kind of condition they were in. All were PERFECT! How is that even possible?! I got 2 for $1 each (insane) and was almost positive they would be scratched and skip. Not the case. They played wonderfully. The others I got were not expensive at all and all also played wonderfully. When I stopped by they had a few crates outside, all for $1 a record. Not only did I find a Leo Sayer album in those bins, but also a old Greek movie soundtrack! I didn't know the artist and it ended up not really being my favorite, but I just thought it was so cool and couldn't resist, and for a dollar?! I am very sure my dad will get such a kick out of it when I show him. I walked out with those two gems plus an Abba, Smokey Robinson and Johnny Cash album and I think I spent like $20. I chatted with the owner a bit who was really friendly and helpful. Their old loc was near the corner of Somerset and Easton for all you RU alums that are wondering how you may have missed them all these years. They had some cool vintage/antique pieces and nick knacks, but not many (hence the %5) but I highly recommend a browse around if you are looking for affordable records or just want to browse around a great little shop. Thank you for the newest additions to my very thin collection!

So I was ready to be disappointed when I walked into the retail store that took its place. But, that store is called Moxie, it kicks ass, and the people who own it and work there are wonderful. They have tons of great housewares. I walked in with a designer friend and she was impressed. Cool plates, tea kettles, cookware - all sorts of stuff. And then I went back before this last Christmas... I found all sorts of gifts for the modern baby. Great clothes from Wry Baby, like t-shirt that had sayings like "I Eat Dirt" and "Not a Girl". And the best sellers in Asbury Park, "I Love My Moms" and "I Love My Dads". (That's right, San Francisco, you don't have a monopoly on progressiveness - in fact you could learn a thing or two from Asbury Park). And there are great toys from Zolo, like the Kooshies Stacrobats. And the Huggy Buggy line of soft toys. Parents of the recipients of these toys are likely to thank you for getting toys that are cool and attractive to children without making obnoxious noises or flashing lights. This place is a great addition to the fantastic shopping on Cookman Ave. And they have an online store so you can order from anywhere. Support your local merchants - especially when they're as cool as these people.

The shop was so meticulously curated with all kinds of unique gifts that you would not find anywhere else. These were not cheesy Asbury souvenirs, but expertly crafted pieces to display in your home, to wear as accessories, to give to your pet, and so much more. We both purchased several items that caught our eyes and made sure to praise the selection when talking to the cashier. I will definitely be adding this to my own "must visit" list going forward.

A lovely unique shop, great for finding unique souvenirs or thoughtful gifts.
