The Ultimate BLT which has a local FRESH delicious egg in it.

This place is an absolute gem! I didn't expect such a neat little spot while driving through the mountains. The food is surprisingly amazing at the cafe. It's obvious to us the ingredients are local or otherwise fresh. Compared to most "road food" stops, I was shocked. We really fell in love with the area so we've visited multiple times and order something new every time. Not only does the food exceed my previous "road stop judgement" expectations but usually is even better than most places I have visited in the cities along the way! They really put a lot of intention and love in their food here and it shows. Also for the general store, it's been great to be able to pick up some goods that I have often forgotten. (Chapstick, moisturizer, snacks.) Along with many local offerings.

If you're out this way, you know it's pretty remote without any cell signal. This store is a good find in an area without many options otherwise. Half of this place is a general store and the other part a restaurant. On the food end, there's homemade cookies, ice cream cones, and a section for sit down dining. On the supplies side, there is hardware, T shirts, hiking and fishing supplies, gasoline, propane and more. Did you know you can fill up your RV with LP gas and get a hunting license too (while eating an ice cream cone). They've done a great job at this place.

Best chicken sandwich, home made banana pudding and fresh made lemonade! Great spot for all the bikers! Do not pass this place up, owners are friendly and everything is fresh! Wow!

WE WERE SO LUCKY TO STOP HERE!! I can't say enough about the incredible high quality from scratch food, hand made drinks and pastry chef level deserts. The absolute best hot chicken I've ever had. Unique flavor filled meatloaf, fluffy corn puppies with delicious side sauce, truffle fries and crispy perfectly cooked brussel sprouts as well as incredible pimento grilled cheese and that was AFTER we ate homemade oatmeal cream cakes and banana pudding. DO NOT MISS the hand shaken lemonade and the mint iced tea (that she picked from her garden last night!) We are from Chicago and have traveled the nation on our Harleys stopping at mom and pop cafes like this. There is NO comparison! Everyone should come eat here! We will make this a mandatory stop when anywhere nearby.

Hillbilly Market - Simple Banana Chips without all the inflammatory ingredients that I can't have.

Maybe I…read moreshould look up synonyms for nostalgia, because everything Hot Springs was nostalgic for both my partner and I. Hillbilly Market was very nostalgic for us both. They seem to have just about everything you could possibly want or need, just without 5-20 options of brands. Simple. Sweet treats sprinkled throughout and even offerings from local farmers and artists. I have a lot of food allergies and sensitivities that make eating a lot of my favorites really hard. Banana chips is one of them. I haven't had them or much dried fruit in several years because sunflower seed oil seems to be used in the process so often with commercial dried foods. If I do find them, they're typically expensive and then taste like crap. So when I came across this expansive display of all these bags of dried fruits and veggies, Banana chips were the first to catch my eye. I startled a few people with my squeal of excitement as I began snatching up bag after bag of dried fruits and veggie chips. Everything I bought was made with a few simple ingredients. No seed oils or dyes, very reasonably priced and everything I bought is very tasty. I'm certain that this place is a treasure trove for people passing through on the Appalachian Trail. I promise that I practiced some self control and left plenty of dried fruits and treats for them as well. That fridge in the back corner of my photo? Full of meat from what we assumed came from a local butcher. It all looked really good and made us regret not cooking dinner at our cabin at least one night. Though we didn't regret any of the good food we had at local diners. Next time though, for sure. Like most places in Hot Springs, they close a lot earlier than we had expected. I think it was around 6:00 when they closed. We were unsure if this was just the usual or due to the community still healing and rebuilding from the hurricanes. So don't make the mistake we made and think you'll just stop in on your way back from a day of adventure and pick up groceries for dinner.

I saw that there was a Publix in Pigeon Forge and knew that's where we'd need to go to get our picnic supplies! Because we had flown in (and didn't have picnic basket on our pack list), I knew that we needed to get a small cooler to keep our drinks and sandwiches cool on the warm spring day. Fortunately, Publix had a nice variety of small lunch box size coolers and we found one for a reasonable price that was perfect for what we needed and would collapse down for easy packing to bring it home. We then made our way to the deli and got fresh, deli made sandwiches made with boar's head meats and cheeses. They're fully customizable and we very much enjoyed them! We were also able to grab some fruit, pretzel crisps, boar's head hummus, and bottled beverages to round out our picnic. Everything was great, prices were reasonable, and we enjoyed a beautiful picnic in this beautiful area. One note would be that the deli does get busy. We were there in the ease of spring (ie: no big National Park crowds) and we still had to wait in a bit of a line for our deli sandwiches. So, just something to factor into scheduling. That said, we didn't mind a bit and the sandwiches were worth the wait. Get to it!

I went on the recommendation of some family that was also vacationing in the area and was definitely pleased with how well kept it was, and how even with a crowd everything was clean and neat. We had some of their baked goods, which were fantastic as well. Will definitely go again when I'm up in this area!

Pricey, but a very interesting store for such a small town…read more But Hot Springs is a stop-over for both the Appalachian Trail hiker types AND folks treating themselves at the resort and spa and getting IN to some hot springs. So a spot to get geoduck in a time...or a $10 thing of hummus...or fancy frozen pizza....or a single $12 crab cake....is actually pretty on brand! I actually stopped in here several times during my week-long stay in town. Primarily because Vaste Riviere is one of two food spots open every day of the week, and the only one of those two with available outdoor seating. My first visit resulted in the purchase of some dip-type thing to bring back to my Airbnb, a six-pack of beer, and a crab cake. The crab cake was good but I forgot to get any utensils, and whoops....the cleaning crew for my Airbnb arrived AFTER I did, where I intended to eat my meal. So I sat in my car and ate my food with what I could find to use as a sort of spoon... I returned on another day because I wanted a cold beverage after an unexpectedly long hike, and I wanted to drink it outside...so this place was my only option. I also got some pimento cheese dip to bring back to the house with me. Which was...ok. Not the greatest, but y'all...the closest true grocery store appears to be, like, a half hour away. The staff was always lovely and friendly. I would have come back here even more times, if their goods were a little more in my price range or...you know, sometimes after a hike all you want is a burger, not a crab cake. But I like this place, was surprised at its existence, and would certainly recommend it to other folks.

Not only do that have interesting options, all of the prepared items were VERY good too. I felt that the quality was excellent and better than the restaurants in town. The entire concept of this store is pretty interesting. I'd imagine Vaste Riviere has low and high days like most businesses. So, by offering these pre-made items, it allows them to have a broader menu (and probably avoid wasting food). Most of the items are available in the deli case for takeaway. You can heat it up easily or have them do it. Also, in their freezer cases, they have an assortment of local food items. For instance, we got a NC-made Kimchi and it was great. They also have items (i.e. gluten free) that you probably couldn't find nearby. Overall, I'd highly recommend Vaste Riviere if you are spending some time in the area. Great option for a takeaway meal in your cabin or room. Also, with the COVID-19 situation right now, they seem to have it under control and are taking protective measures. Support them!!
