Good beer, good ambiance, good space, mediocre food. We got a bratwurst sandwich and a pretzel and both lacked seasoning. I'm unsure if the food reflects how it tastes in Austria but they should adjust it to American standards. We still had a good time. They have plenty of outdoor heaters but I recommend wearing a warm jacket or bring a blanket bc this area gets windy and cold. read more

There are so many breweries in the Bay Area, but what makes this place special is the quality of the beer along with the service. Derrick made me feel so welcome time and time again after visiting with my newborn son for a quick pint. My favorite brewery in the East Bay. Food is fantastic, service is on point, it's so clean (even the bathrooms), and has family-friendly seating options. Can't recommend Trumer enough. Beautiful taproom. Spacious and comfortable. A good wide selection of German beer. Love that the patio is dog friendly. The staff was really nice and conversational with my partner and I. They gave our dog some dog treats made from spent grains! The food was really good too. A small selection with good variety. We had wings, a pretzel (of course!) and the leek & mushroom pie. I was there for a meet-up group, that met on the back patio. The area was spacious, clean, and comfortable. I only drank one beer, the signature pilsner, which was fresh and delicious. Superbowl 2024. I went to Brewery because I knew it has a big screen and the beer is good. Arrived just as game started I noticed that there were only about 20 people there including outside patio (I thought it would be packed). The sound from the game was turned off which I thought was kinda weird. Waited for beer pourer talking to a customer for about five minutes as I waited behind her. He went to cashier and before he started ringing her up I asked for a large beer. He said, "I am trying to do a cash ringup, it's hard to do with you asking me something." I figured right away that he didn't have much experience as a bar tender so I waited patiently and sat down at the end by the cash register for him to finish. I started watching the game waiting for him and when I turned around he was dealing with a new customer again spending some time working his speil. I said , "excuse me, can I order a beer?" he ignored me and finished talking to new customer. When he was finished I asked for my order again. He said, "don't cut in line I'm working with these people." Finally after about 15 minutes I came back and asked for a beer. He poured it and told me that I was rude and put the card reader in front of me saying that I didn't have to leave him a tip. I was a bartender and was able to take orders from different people at the same time. I thought he was a professional but was mistaken. I hope you get real bartenders who can handle at least a small crowd before the business goes under who are more polite to the paying customers. read more

I studied brewing and UC Davis and working inventing new beers at Anheuser Busch for 3 years - Trumer Pils is the best beer in the world. And always the same. They now have a taproom at the brewery in Berkeley that is excellent all around. Besides the best in the world Pils it also has on tap other incredible beers. A must visit for beer lovers. read more

German here who knows a thing or two about beer. The beer is absolutely delicious. I was thrilled to learn that they offer more than the usual pilsener. There are plenty of options and the ones I've tried so far are very good AND decently priced. Beer-wise I felt almost at home. There's nothing like a freshly brewed beer from the tap. Now, food in beer gardens is often a second priority, and while you can feel the thoughts that were put into this menu, it's not different here. Not thrilling but decent. Especially, when it comes to vegetarian options. There's only one available and I can't imagine having this grain bowl--although pretty good--over and over again. (The Squabish pretzel is way overpriced.) The place itself is beautiful, the interior well thought-through and inviting. The outdoor space is still a bit sterile but it's brand new so, it will wear over time. I felt a bit disappointed by the code-scanning menu and ordering via phone. I'd like to have a personal interaction with my waiter--especially at such a place. But, oh well, I guess that's the new normal now. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Well, unfortunately, I have to add a rather disappointing experience. We wanted a beer on a Sunday night, 7:30. The website said they close at 8. The sign on the window said they'd close at 8. The guys behind the bar didn't seem to care. The door was locked and they just pretended not to notice. Trumer Pils was the site of a Yelp Elite event in 2012, (yep). wouldn't have gone if i wasn't interested in the beer. not disappointed in the tour, the tacos, the beer nor the free drinking glassware. i don't remember any aspects of the brewery tour. wasn't that memorable in hindsight. in 2012, Trumer was a regular drinking choice. not now as my tastes has drifted to stouts and heavy ipa's. another factor-Trumer isn't available in many bars now. read more

I had a very disappointing experience at the recent 10/7 Oktoberfest. In short, they oversold the event and there was not enough food for everyone during the event. I purchased a $60 event ticket (including fees) which provided for a 1 liter beer stein, a pour and a meal. What I actually received was the beer stein, an extra liter pour (2 tickets) and a pretzel. I was told that there was (previously) a long line for food and that by the time I got there, they ran out of food. I was left to eat a small pretzel (which was prepared a while ago) with no available mustard. This is unacceptable. I thought that by purchasing an Eventbrite ticket in advance that I was assuredly getting food. Rather, I remained hungry, was offered some extra pours and given a small, semi-stale pretzel. While I do not blame the on-site bartenders and workers (who performed a respectable job under the circumstances), I am blaming the people who organized and planned this event and am criticizing them for their lack of foresight and planning. Not enough food was provided for this event and there should have been other available options (eg food trucks) which should have addressed our needs. Needless to say, I wasn't the only one who felt this way. Other patrons felt like they were shortchanged from the experience and it sure wasn't worth $60. Either more food should've been ordered or or more options available. In any event, I was disappointed and felt cheated from the experience. This was easily the worst beer event I've ever attended. Even though I liked some of their beers, I do not plan on visiting this brewery or attending any future events until they get their act together. I do not recommend this place to anyone as there are much better alternatives in the area. This is not an impressive start for their new brewery/taproom and they should have done better. read more

Oooh... wow! Not been over to the brewery yet (so darn close!), but just had a fresh, crisp pilsner bottle in the hot sun today.. and it was the perfect beer that bullseyed 'the spot' for me... YUM. Surprisingly clean and great smooth taste.. light, as pilsners go. Bottled slurp-it savory pilsner beer. I've had many many pints of Czech pilsners on various vacations in the CR (peeps... stop calling it Czechoslovakia!! affront to the folks.. Velvet Revolution was a reality!)... definitely doesn't beat Urquell, in my opinion... but it's remarkably fresh and a quality brew. read more

Tried the new taproom recently. It's rather refreshing to have a choice of different lager style beers as opposed to a bunch of IPAs. Especially in the sun. Beers are very good as you'd expect. The space is very nice. Bathrooms are exceptionally nice and clean and well designed and built. The staff were helpful and friendly. The food I saw walk out the door all looked good. I tried the one salad on the menu and it was good. The menu is small but everything looked appealing. Not your standard burgers/fries/wings fare. More interesting but still simple. read more

Trumer Pils was my first stop during yesterday's YEE and I must say the beer is amazing! It's light, citrusy and paired nicely with the complementary fish tacos from Rubios. The process in which they make the beer is so meticulous and I was shocked to find out that there were only 3 batches that gone bad out of the whole time Trumer has been in operation at this location. I wished I paid more attention to the tour though, but after a pint and half of beer later (and thank you to the very generous staff who gave my guest and I extra), I was buzzing. Unfortunately they weren't selling the beer on site at the time, but they do sell six packs at Bev-Mo for about $7 and a 24 pack at Costco for about $20. Let's just say I'm making a trip down to Costco. read more

Very confusing... tried to go here a couple weeks ago before dinner. Went to get a beer because both their website and Google say they're "open" M-F 8:30 - 5:30 but we arrived and it looked like the only thing that could possibly be an entrance was blocked by construction, and nobody answered the phone. Saw on the website that brewery tours are still suspended, which is fine and clear. Physical signage when we arrived was lacking/unclear and I really don't even know from their website or by what we saw while visiting if you can just go and have a beer. Definitely a bummer because I love Trumer Pils and was looking forward to visiting. Came to Yelp hoping for more updated info. read more

What's an Austrian pilsner doing with a brewery in Berkeley? For one thing, keeping it fresh and local, while doing a stand-up job of preserving the original Trumer Pils process. Trumer makes just this one pilsner, but they do it right: crisp and clean, just a slight bitter aftertaste, bubbles like champagne. I've started to see Trumer pop up in places like NOPA, Foreign Cinema and A16, a good indication that this is beer is all class. I had the opportunity to visit the Berkeley Brewery this past Sunday. The tasting room is reminiscent of something up in Sonoma or Napa - modern trappings mixed with old world grace. The staff and brewers are good people, of course very knowledgeable, but more importantly friendly and approachable about the brand, it's history and style. I'd highly recommend going on a tour, or for one of their special events. Here's to the first 400 years, Trumer, my friend! read more

Don't ask me why but I have no recollection of ever really giving this beer a chance - and tonight, at a Yelp event - these folks were on hand to pour beer (and hand out these nifty motorcycle seat towels with a grommet and clippy thing so you don't lose it on the freeway!). Jim and his partner listened to my stories of bison at Custer SP with interest and then I got to learn all about the what makes Trumer Pils special. This was a seriously tasty pilsner - I was even more impressed after I had a few bites of Rotten City's delicious vegan pizza and then tried more beer - crazy thing is that combination just opened up a lot of floral notes in the beer. It went really well with pizza! I was excited to hear that they have a brewery right down on 4th, not far from Takara - and they do tours every day at 3:30 - I've never been to a beer brewery (just wineries!) and neither had my friend. We're now very excited to go have a tour and enjoy some tasty beer at Trumer in Berkeley! read more

Rolled to Trumer for a Yelp Elite Event . We were given a Souvenir Trumer Pint glass and a few pours of Trumer. It was a very refreshing event. It was held in the Outside Courtyard. Trumer was also giving Guided Tours of The Brewery. During the Tour the Brew Master explained the Brewing Process. They also have a Gift Shop with Trumer Logo-ed Swag. I came here last year for the Berkeley Drinks District Hop YEE. I didn't even know Berkeley had wineries and breweries until my experience with the event. This brewery was my final stop on our drink hopping tour. My friend and I were ushered over to grab a pint of Trumer beer and then proceeded to follow the tour around the brewery. My favorite part was looking at the bottling machinery and entering the giant freezing room where the beer was stored. I learned so much about what it takes to make beer and lager! Yay for science and drinking XD It's really neat how they offer free tours to the public and they are pretty accommodating for larger groups. I think this would be an unconventional, but fun, place to visit if you're in the Berkeley area. read more

Had a very good tour of the brewery today. Tours start at 3:45 PM. I would call and make a reservation to ensure a spot is available. Easier to appreciate the beer now that I met one of the brewers. Management if you are reading, I would have your bathroom that you let guests use cleaned before the tours. Some of the finest beer made here in the bay area. Not some ultra-hoppy brew that seems to be all the rage in the micro brew world. This is a step up from the (now uber popular) Stella that I had been drinking for so long. If you have a chance go to the brewery and have a few glasses in their tasting room. This is a damn fine pils. I still keep a soft spot in my heart for the ultra-hoppy brews out there though, they are still my favorite. That said, a crew of us city kids cruised on over to Berkeley to check out the Beerapalooza held at the Brauerei. There were hoppy beers, there were dark beers, porters, IPAs, pilsners, ales, it was all there from a dozen or so micro breweries. And you had better not be an amateur beer drinker, otherwise you'd be in for a headache. And trust me, there were very few amateurs here. I felt like I was back home in Wisco for Oktoberfest or something, complete with a rollicking cover band. Excellent way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Then we got hooked up and taken up to the oh so elegant tasting room where we got to sip on Trumer out of their signature tall, collins-like drinkware. Oh so fancy we were with a pleasant beer buzz. Phil loves Pils! After visiting Trumer Pils Brauerei for the auspicious Beerapalooza festival this past Sunday, I can assure you that you'll be seeing more Trumer in your local bars. I visited the Trumer brewery during a Yelp Elite event a few months back. I've passed by numerous times before on weekend strolls, but the brewery's normally only open during business hours. The staff were extremely friendly to the Elite guests. The tour was interesting enough. I didn't realize that Trumer only brews its Pilsner (which is fine, because I like it!). I think that most people in my group were more interested in the bottling and kegging machinery, rather than the actual brewing equipment. If you can swing a tour, definitely try it! read more

I really enjoyed my time here at the YEE. This was our first stop, and I'd never tried the beer before. I'm definitely a fan. This is exactly the kind of beer I like- not too heavy on the hops, with a crisp grassy taste and there's a little pepper as well. I am not a huge beer fan, but if I am going to drink beer, I would rather it was a Trumer Pils. When I am having a late lunch at Saul's and I am munching on the red-meatiest of sandwiches (The famous Bronx Treat) I will have a Trumer with it. OMG - so good! But, the best is a Trumer right from the tap at the Brewery on 4th Street. We had a tour followed by a couple beautiful pints from cold sweaty pilsner glasses. Ask for Trumer at your favorite restaurant and if they don't have it, ask them to order it so you can have it next time. read more
