Indira and I both ordered what they call a potato jacket. The name fits very well since it is a potato cut in half and stuffed full of whichever items you choose (like the items are wearing a jacket!) The prices here are very fair, about 6 pounds for a very filling lunch. My potato jacket was stuffed with bacon, mushrooms and thyme. Not the shitty processed American bacon either, but the thick local, fresh from the butcher bacon they serve here in England. Indira's on the other hand was covered in cheese and beans, and looked just as delicious! The potatoes also come with cole slow and a salad. Along with excellent food, the service was great. You can see the entire kitchen when you enter the restaurant, and the staff is very friendly and right there to help. Although we didn't eat any, the variety of cakes was extensive and looked wonderful. This tea room is also right next to the lovely park in the area so you can go relax after getting filled up.

The decor is a bit dated but clean and well maintained, the service is good, staff are friendly. The establishment DOESN'T accept credit or debit cards, it's cash only. The music is s bit 'ballroom' but it ties in with the history of the cafe (1932). The toilets are fresh, clean and well maintained and there is a separate disabled toilet. Overall, an excellent Sunday afternoon lunch !!!
