Tried Truist, they changed the rate on us three times. It's a game they play. Last time, we took all the money out. The last change was from 3.4% to 0.01%--an untrustworthy bank, indeed (who does that?). When we took the money out, they offered the prior rate again; it was like that every time. Just imagine receiving your statement and the interest rate changed from 3.4% to 0.01%. That's a rate you can get on $100. We went in to close the account at the branch on Siesta Drive in Sarasota, and Lindsey said she could offer us the old rate but never mentioned it retroactively. I am rating this bank one star, because I cannot rate it a negative number of stars. When I opened my small business, Truist seemed to offer the best deals of the banks in the local area, so we even went a little out of our way to bank with them. HUGE mistake. They were fine, we set up our merchant services with them, took a few card payments. Then we took a job at a low amount to help out a client who needed some help, and received a hand-written check, which we then electronically deposited. There the nightmare began. Not only did that check remain on hold, but our other incoming deposit was pushed back, and other payments out were rejected, NSF. We contacted the bank and they told us the check was suspicious, and the account was under investigation for a possibly fraudulent check, and they should clear it within 5-8 business days. A week and a half later, the check did clear into the bank account, and the NSF fee was removed from the balance, so the manager with whom we'd been dealing and we thought we were good. Until the following week, when unfortunately, payroll checks written on the account did not clear. Seriously. I drove over five hours that day, I helped someone out and lowered my fees considerably, and this has been my repayment. I realize all that is not Truist's fault, but the fact that they (investigations) cannot talk to me and the fact that this could be cleared up VERY QUICKLY by talking to the client and me for all of TWO MINUTES and that is NOT ALLOWED by some draconian system IS TRUIST'S FAULT. All they will tell me is "investigations has what they need and they can't talk to you so if they need anything from you, you will get something in the mail." I moved to South Carolina and did not have a local bank so I opened one with Truist. I literally had my account open for two months and had my account breached 4 times. Fed up, I closed my account. Fast forward to two months ago, where I was notified by my mortgage company, who I'd had my loan with for 3 years with no problems, that Truist had purchased my mortgage. I've had them for 2 months and already got an alert through Capital One that my name, email address, home address and DOB had been found on the dark web through the same email address associated with Truist. My car loan is with Truist. They have been taking my extra payments towards principal and applied it towards interest to extend the loan. When confronted with this, they said they'd reverse it. 4 calls later, not only have they not reversed all of them, but they are now applying the majority of my scheduled payment toward interest instead of the other way around. Truist said it was valid and sent me documentation that I could not read with 3.25 power reading glasses. I tried to refinance my vehicle under my business with them, after going back and forth for 3 days, sending all documents and information they requested, when was about time to run my credit, I was told that I should better finance my vehicle with the dealer since my business doesn't have 2 years, nonsense, I was trying to refinance a vehicle that was already purchased and financed by another company. By far, the worst bank/financial institution I've ever dealt with. Stay far away! I was forced to use Truist when financing a car at an out-of-state dealership (AZ). I had issues for three months trying to get the car's title to my local CA DMV for registration. I had to pay late fees because of them. Then, I refinanced my car loan with a local credit union after it was finally registered in CA. Truist couldn't email me the payoff letter but could only send it by mail or fax. I requested it to be faxed three times but never received it. My credit union loan officer had to call Truist to get the payoff amount (after being on the phone with them for an hour). My credit union loan officer then overnighted the payoff check, which now Truist is claiming they don't have, or it's been lost since tracking shows it was delivered to their overnight mailing address. I've spent over 20 hours collectively trying to get this whole thing sorted out since April 2025. Whatever you do, do not bank with Truist; they are the worst! Worst bank ever. Their app sucks. It keeps getting worse. It won't update early in the morning, most the time when I balance my check book early in the morning a lot of my charges are missing. As if that wasn't bad enough, I disputed a charge that I did not approve. They decide to send me a new card without any warning or notice. Better yet, they completely freeze my account. Worst bank in the world! We unfortunately got stuck with this bank because our mortgage contract, along with others, was sold to them by Freedom Mortgage, who we had no issues with. Truist started collecting our mortgage payments as of November 1, 2024. We were leery about Truist Bank after reading their terrible reviews, so we mailed in our mortgage payments on time, as always. In April, we decided to set up automatic recurring payments from our bank account, payable on the 5th of each month, to make sure they are on time. Payments are late after the 15th of each month with this bank. We get statements for May and June saying payments are going through our bank as instructed, on time. Then, low and behold, we get a statement for July saying payment was not made and we owe a double payment for July and August! I call Customer Service and talk to Valerie. She apoligizes and says our July payment was received and there was a computer "glitch" in their system. I then ask for a letter regarding this error. She says they can't give one. I ask for a corrected statement. She says they're not giving those, either! We are left with a mortgage statement saying we owe double our regular payment and that we are late! This bank is corrupt. We have a low interest rate of 2.75%. We think they are testing the waters to see if we notice their crooked mortgage statements or not. If not, they can lay groundwork for possible future foreclosure action. If we don't get a correction letter or statement we will be seeking legal action! No bank can be this incompetent! I received a letter from Truist saying my monthly payment was going up over $300/mo because the "Addl Hazard Insurance" was added to my account over a year ago. That created a payment deficiency that I have to make up for, even though I was paying the monthly amount you indicated on my monthly online bill summary. I called my insurance company and the amounts they show do not match what Truist shows and I DO NOT need add'l hazard insurance. I explained this to the rep and she did not understand what I was telling her and could not explain the difference. I will have to call back again with my insurance company on the phone and all the records they have. I purchased a new vehicle on a Wednesday. The dealership finance manager told me that Truist was totally paperless and that I had to go to their website, locate my account number, set up my online account, and set up the payment cycle. After visiting the Truist website and reading the online reviews, it made for a truly depressing weekend. This being said, Monday rolls around and I decide to call Truist customer service, as no lending institution I've ever dealt with just throws money at you and then expects you to fend for yourself to get them repaid. My point, the dealer finance manager was incorrect. Calling Truist, it took me a couple of verbal "customer service" requests on their automated line to get a live person. After explaining my situation to their assistant, it was clear that any issue I had was, at least at this point, totally dealership related. Truist account service agent Cheryl (based remotely in Florida) was outstanding. First off, she was very patient and spoke clearly and fluently (greatly appreciated in today's typical outsourcing environment). Cheryl was able to locate my auto loan account and walk me through the entire online process to arrange for autopay with the option to make additional principal payments. While my experience thus far has been in direct contrast to other reviews that I've read, I'm a happy camper for now. Cheryl is a true ambassador for Truist, and their banking website was pretty straightforward once I received the proper guidance. Time will tell, but for now, all is well. read more

I sold my boat and went into a branch to pay off my Truist loan. The teller gave me a ten day payoff amount and I wrote a check for that amount. After not getting the title in 2 months, I call Truist. They said my account was still open and I owed $79. Of course I argued, but the Customer No Service rep said that tellers don't even have access to pay off amounts. That's 100% a lie. I had to pay the interest just to get my title. It was there mistake for not giving me the correct payoff, or more likely, they just add on fees for everyone. My husband had an auto loan with Truist that was paid off in early November 2024. As of mid January 2025 we are still waiting for the payoff letter and vehicle title. My son opened a minor account with them and they pushed the overdraft protection on him like its a good thing. Of course, he overdrew his account, and they charged a$36 fee, which I've refused to pay. I've filed a dispute and have heard nothing.
